A mixed-report compact luxury suv, strong on technology and held back by ownership.

The 2026 Polestar 4 is a fast, beautifully finished, exceptionally quiet electric crossover with a Google-powered 15.4-inch cabin and 544 hp for $64,300 as equipped — and it is also the last Polestar the US government will let the brand sell here, which changes everything about buying one. Right now that means fire-sale money ($25,000 off a cash purchase, or a $499/mo lease), and it also means a projected 5-year ownership cost around $52,000, driven almost entirely by depreciation nobody can confidently predict. Add the smallest cargo hold in the class at 18.6 cu ft and a rear camera in place of a rear window that several US reviewers found genuinely unpleasant, and this becomes a lease-it-cheap car rather than a buy-and-keep car. If you can live with the trunk and the mirror, the discount buys a lot of car; if you plan to own it to 100,000 miles across a 32-store service network, look hard at the alternatives.
