The verdict

A struggling subcompact suv, strong on ownership and held back by performance.

The launch-year 2018 Kona is cheap to buy and cheap to keep. It started at $20,385 delivered, gets 30 MPG combined on regular gas, and came with Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. It is also nimble and easy to park in the city. The trade-offs are real: the volume 2.0L needs about 9 seconds to reach 60 mph, the rear seat and 19.2 cu ft cargo hold are among the smallest in the class, and the key safety tech only came on the top trim or in an option package. Look for a 2019 or later if you want automatic emergency braking as standard.

Detailed scoring by subject

1Performance & PowertrainThe Kona's lowest-graded category.0.00F
Horsepower
147 hp (2.0L, SE/SEL); 175 hp 1.6T (Limited/Ultimate)
0/100
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

2018 is the Kona's US launch year, and the volume SE and SEL trims use the 2.0L Nu MPI four rated at 147 hp. The 175-hp 1.6T comes only on Limited and Ultimate.

Torque
132 lb-ft (2.0L); 195 lb-ft 1.6T
1/100
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 2.0L's 132 lb-ft arrives high in the rev range and sits near the bottom of the SUV band. The 1.6T's 195 lb-ft comes in low down.

0–60 mph time
~9.0 s (2.0L; 8.3–9.2 s instrumented); ~6.6–7.0 s 1.6T
8/100
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Instrumented tests of the 2018 2.0L/6AT ran 8.3 s (MotorTrend, FWD SE) and 9.2 s (Car and Driver, AWD SEL), so ~9.0 s represents the volume trim. The 1.6T is about two seconds quicker.

Powertrain refinement50
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 2.0L is adequate around town but gets loud and breathless when merging or passing. The turbo is lively but has some low-speed lag through the DCT. About average for the subcompact class.

Transmission behavior62
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The volume trims use a conventional 6-speed automatic that shifts smoothly and avoids CVT drone, an edge over CVT rivals like the HR-V and Kicks. The turbo's 7-speed dry DCT is quick on the move but can be jerky at crawling speeds.

Max towing capacity
Not rated for towing (US)
0/100
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Hyundai published no US tow rating for the 2018 Kona and does not recommend towing in the US owner's manual, so it scores zero on capability.

AWD/4WD availability62
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

AWD is optional on every 2018 trim (SE, SEL, Limited, Ultimate), and AWD cars get a multi-link rear suspension. It is a basic on-demand, front-biased system with a lock mode and no low range or torque vectoring.

Off-road capability24
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

A pavement-oriented subcompact crossover with 6.7 in of ground clearance, no skid plates, no locker or crawl control, and no off-road trim. The AWD lock helps only on slippery roads.

Powertrain lineup breadth45
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

In its 2018 launch year the US Kona offered two gas engines, the 147-hp 2.0L and the 175-hp 1.6T, each with FWD or AWD. There was no hybrid, and the Kona Electric did not arrive until the 2019 model year.

2Efficiency & RangeMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.47C+
3SafetyOne of the Kona's weakest categories.0.29F
NHTSA overall rating
Not rated by NHTSA (2018 FWD and AWD)
0/100
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

NHTSA never crash-rated the launch-year 2018 Kona: both the FWD and AWD listings read 'Not Rated' in every test. The 5-star rating only arrived with the 2019 model year.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness72
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Every IIHS crashworthiness test came back Good, and the 2018 Kona earned a Top Safety Pick+. The award applies only with optional front crash prevention and the LED headlights on Limited/Ultimate models built after May 2018, so the volume SEL and early-build cars do not qualify as equipped.

Standard ADAS suite breadth30
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

For 2018, AEB, lane keeping and driver attention warning were not standard. They came only on the Ultimate or in the SEL's $1,500 Tech package. The volume SEL gets blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warnings, the base SE has none of these, and no trim offers adaptive cruise. Hyundai made FCA and LKA standard across the line only for 2019.

Automatic emergency braking performance52
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

When fitted, the optional system earned IIHS's Superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention. Daytime pedestrian detection rated Advanced, and there was no nighttime pedestrian rating. Most 2018 Konas were sold without the system.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage50
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Blind-spot collision warning, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic warning are standard from the volume SEL up but absent on the base SE. The systems only warn and do not intervene.

Lane keeping & centering35
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Lane Keeping Assist is optional for 2018: it comes on the Ultimate or with the SEL Tech package and is not on the SE or base SEL. It only nudges at the lane edge, and no lane centering is offered on any trim.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist20
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 2018 gas Kona offered only conventional cruise control on every trim. Smart Cruise Control did not arrive until the 2022 refresh, while rivals such as the CX-30 and Corolla Cross later offered or standardized adaptive cruise.

Hands-free driving availability5
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

No hands-free driving system is offered on any 2018 Kona trim, and there is no adaptive cruise or lane centering to build on.

Headlight performance25
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

IIHS rated four of six 2018 headlight variants Poor: the halogen projectors on the SE and volume SEL, and the Limited/Ultimate LEDs on cars built before May 2018. Only Limited/Ultimate LEDs built after May 2018 rated Good. High-beam assist was on the Ultimate only.

Outward visibility62
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The upright greenhouse and small footprint give decent forward sightlines. The thick C-pillars and small rear window limit the over-shoulder view, and only a rearview camera is offered, with no 360-degree view; rear parking sensors are on the Ultimate only.

Child-seat (LATCH) usability35
#6 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

IIHS rates the Kona's LATCH Marginal, with lower anchors set deep in the seat bight. The narrow subcompact rear bench makes fitting multiple car seats tight.

4Space & ComfortOne of the Kona's weakest categories.0.23F

The launch-year 2018 Kona is a two-row, five-seat crossover on every trim (SE, SEL, Limited, Ultimate).

Front headroom
39.6 in (about 38.0 in with sunroof)
52/100
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Front headroom is adequate for the class without the sunroof. The sunroof comes with the SEL Tech package and on the Limited and Ultimate, and it takes away about 1.6 inches.

Front legroom
41.5 in
33/100
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Front legroom is on the short side for an SUV, but the driving position still fits most adults.

Rear headroom
37.8 in
45/100
#6 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Rear headroom is reasonable for the class, and CarsDirect calls it sufficient, but it sits near the bottom of the SUV band.

Rear legroom
34.6 in
38/100
#6 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

At 34.6 inches, the rear seat is among the tightest in the subcompact class. Taller adults are squeezed on longer trips.

Third-row usability5
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

No trim offers a third row. The 2018 Kona is strictly a two-row, five-seat crossover.

Cargo/trunk volume
19.2 cu ft behind rear seat
0/100
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Cargo space behind the rear seat is small for the class. The HR-V, Trax and Crosstrek all hold more.

Max cargo volume
45.8 cu ft, rear seats folded
0/100
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

With the 60/40 rear seat folded, total cargo space still trails most subcompact rivals.

In-cabin storage & clever solutions50
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Consumer Guide found storage quite useful, with a large glovebox, hidden underfloor compartments and flush-folding rear seats. Door pockets and the console bin are modest, wireless charging is Ultimate-only, and nothing stands out against the class.

Seat comfort55
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The front seats are comfortable for daily driving, but the volume SEL has a manual, height-only adjustable driver's seat unless you add the $1,500 Tech package's 8-way power seat with lumbar. The rear bench is upright, and reviewers advise against long trips with a full load.

Ride quality52
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Bump absorption is decent for the class, but the short wheelbase hops over larger bumps. Reviewers generally call the ride firm, especially on FWD cars with the torsion-beam rear. AWD models get a multi-link rear.

Cabin quietness40
#6 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Road noise is readily apparent, especially on coarse pavement, and the 2.0L gets loud under load. The acoustic windshield and extra insulation came only with the 2022 refresh.

Climate & comfort features45
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Heated front seats are standard from the volume SEL up, but the SE and SEL have manual air conditioning. Automatic climate control arrives only on the Limited and Ultimate. No trim offers rear vents, ventilated seats or a heated steering wheel.

5Cost of OwnershipThe Kona's best-graded category.4.00A+
Base MSRP
$20,385 (2018 Kona SE FWD 2.0L, incl. $885 destination); SE AWD $21,685
100/100
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The launch-year 2018 Kona SE started at $19,500 plus $885 destination, one of the lowest entry prices in the subcompact-SUV class.

Volume-Trim Price
$23,335 — SEL AWD incl. destination (SEL FWD $22,035; Limited 1.6T $25,585–26,885; Ultimate $28,285–29,585)
100/100
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 2.0L SEL was the volume Kona; with AWD it came in around $23,300 delivered for 2018. The trim prices are Hyundai's own, but the assumption that most buyers chose AWD comes from sales commentary rather than published data.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
≈$2,650 over 5 years (CarEdge $2,646 model-wide)
100/100
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Kona maintenance and repair costs project well below the class norm. The 2018 model predates Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance, so nothing is deducted for free service.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
≈56% retained at 5 years (2020 MY at ~6 yrs 57.8%, 2021 MY at 5 yrs 61.4% per CarEdge)
53/100
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The first-generation Kona holds its value about as well as the average subcompact SUV. CarEdge has no figures for the 2018 model year, so retention is interpolated from later years, shaded slightly down for the launch year.

Basic warranty
5 years / 60,000 miles (New Vehicle Limited Warranty)
100/100
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Hyundai Assurance's 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper coverage led the mainstream market.

Powertrain warranty
10 years / 100,000 miles, original owner (5 yr/60,000 mi if transferred)
100/100
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty tops the band, though only the original owner gets the full term.

Complimentary maintenance & perks55
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 2018 Kona predates Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance, which began with the 2020 model year, so no scheduled service is included. Owners do get 5-year/unlimited-mile 24/7 roadside assistance and a complimentary Blue Link trial.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$12,917 (≈$10,267 depreciation + $2,650 maintenance)
95/100
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

$23,335 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (56% retained, or about $13,068) leaves about $10,267 in depreciation. Add the projected $2,650 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $12,917 in total.

6Reliability & QualityOne of the Kona's strongest categories.2.63C+
Predicted reliability70
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

2018 is the launch year of the first-generation Kona, a new nameplate with no track record. J.D. Power's predicted reliability for it was 3.5/5, slightly above average. Owner complaints since then are moderate and centre on the engine, so it sits upper mid-band rather than top-tier.

Brand reliability track record66
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Around 2018 Hyundai sat mid-pack in dependability: near or a little above the industry average in J.D. Power VDS/IQS and mid-table in Consumer Reports' brand rankings, behind Lexus, Toyota and Mazda. The Theta II engine-failure recalls and class action (2011–2019 Sonata, Santa Fe, Tucson) weighed on the brand's long-term record, though the Kona doesn't use those engines.

Recall & TSB history76
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

NHTSA lists no safety recalls for the 2018 Kona. The 2.0L piston-oil-ring recall that hits the 2019–2021 cars covers engines built from November 2018 on, so 2018 production falls outside it. The key-start SE/SEL trims do lack an engine immobilizer and were targeted in the 2022–23 theft wave; Hyundai fixed that with a software and steering-lock service campaign, not a recall. That theft exposure and the engine complaints keep it below the top band.

Powertrain durability reputation60
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The volume SE and SEL trims pair the 147-hp 2.0L Nu MPI (Atkinson) with a conventional 6-speed automatic, which is a simple, robust combination. The same engine family later drew a piston-ring recall on 2019+ builds and some oil-consumption complaints. The 175-hp 1.6T on upper trims uses a 7-speed dry DCT that drew complaints of low-speed hesitation and clutch trouble. Mixed history overall.

Interior material quality55
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The launch-year cabin is well laid out and feels sturdy, but reviewers consistently note the dash and door panels are almost all hard plastic, with little soft-touch material on any trim. That's acceptable at the price, but it trails the Mazda CX-3.

Fit & finish70
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Owners rate the quality well (J.D. Power quality & reliability in the low 80s for the first-generation Kona), and assembly is generally tight. Scattered launch-year reports of rattles and trim noise keep it mid-band.

Dealer & service network70
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Hyundai's roughly 800-store US franchised network gives dense national coverage. Service satisfaction is only around average for mass-market brands, so it stays mid-band.

Parts availability & repair cost80
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The first-generation Kona sold in high volume, so parts are cheap and plentiful and the aftermarket is established. RepairPal puts Kona repair costs well below average. The 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty for original owners adds further protection.

7Technology & InfotainmentGrades near the bottom of the scale.0.81F
Touchscreen size
7.0 in (SE/SEL/Limited); 8.0 in with navigation on Ultimate
0/100
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The volume SE and SEL use the 7-inch display audio screen. The 8-inch navigation unit comes only on the top Ultimate trim.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness63
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Hyundai's 7-inch display audio is simple and quick, sits high on the dash, and keeps physical volume and tuning knobs and a conventional climate panel. The screen is small, but reviewers found it easy to use.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto55
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard from the base SE, but only as wired connections. Wireless projection reached the Kona only with the 2022 refresh.

Voice control & native navigation45
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Built-in navigation comes only on the Ultimate's 8-inch unit, so SE and SEL buyers rely on phone projection for maps and natural voice control.

Audio system quality53
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The six-speaker system on the SE and SEL is adequate. An eight-speaker Infinity system with subwoofer is fitted to the upper trims, a modest but real step up.

Digital instrument cluster25
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Every 2018 Kona uses analog gauges. A small monochrome info screen sits between them on most trims, and only the Ultimate gets a 4.2-inch color display. A fully digital cluster came only for 2022.

OTA update capability20
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

There are no over-the-air software updates. Map updates for the Ultimate's navigation are done by USB or at the dealer.

Companion app & remote functions48
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Blue Link remote start, climate, lock and car finder come with a three-year subscription on the Ultimate, but the volume SE and SEL go without. No digital key was offered.

Charging ports & device power38
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Front USB-A ports are standard, but there are no rear USB ports, and Qi wireless charging is limited to the Ultimate. No household outlet is offered.

Keyless & remote access58
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Proximity keyless entry with push-button start is standard from the volume SEL up, though the base SE uses a conventional key. Remote start requires Blue Link, and there is no hands-free liftgate or phone-as-key.

Camera & parking aids40
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

A rearview camera is standard, but rear parking sensors come only on the Ultimate, and no trim offers a surround-view camera or front sensors.

Head-up display availability52
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

A color head-up display, projected onto a pop-up combiner screen rather than the windshield, is standard on the Ultimate, which was unusual in the 2018 subcompact class. It is not available on the volume trims.

8Use-Case FitGrades near the bottom of the scale.0.92F
Kid & car-seat practicality42
#6 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The tight 34.6-inch rear seat, small rear door openings and 19.2 cu ft cargo hold make rear-facing seats and strollers a squeeze. IIHS rates its LATCH hardware Marginal.

Family safety package45
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

IIHS rated every crash test Good, but NHTSA never rated the 2018. Forward collision avoidance and lane keeping require the SEL's $1,500 Tech package or the Ultimate. The volume trims' halogen headlights rate Poor, and no trim offers adaptive cruise. That leaves real gaps at family price points, which were closed only for 2019.

Family road-trip comfort38
#6 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

With four aboard, the cramped rear seat, the lack of rear vents and rear USB ports, and the small cargo hold limit it to short getaways. Reviewers advise against long trips with a full cabin.

Daily driving ease63
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The Kona is small, light and nimble in traffic, and its conventional six-speed automatic is smooth at low speed. The firm ride and road noise add some fatigue, and the 147-hp 2.0L struggles when merging.

Commuting cost efficiency64
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

30 MPG combined on regular fuel from the 2.0L FWD is about average for a gas subcompact crossover, and the simple powertrain and small tires keep consumables cheap.

Parking & maneuverability74
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

A short body of about 164 inches and a tight 34.8-ft turning circle make it easy to thread through the city. The thick rear pillars, and no parking sensors below the Ultimate, are the drawbacks.

Work capability12
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

There is no US tow rating, the cargo hold is small and the 147-hp 2.0L has little in reserve under load. It is not meaningfully work-capable.

Durability for work duty40
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

This is a light personal-use crossover, with hard plastics that wear well but no fleet or hard-use reputation.

Jobsite & upfit practicality20
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Beyond cargo tie-down hooks and roof side rails from the SEL up, it has no work-oriented provisions: no outlets, no factory hitch and no upfit ecosystem.

Long-distance comfort & range46
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

A 396-mile EPA range is decent, but road noise, the firm ride and the lack of adaptive cruise make long highway stints tiring. Lane keeping is optional only.

Outdoor & adventure capability45
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

AWD with a lock mode is available on every trim, and the SEL's roof rails take bike or ski racks. With 6.7 inches of ground clearance and no tow rating, though, gravel roads are about its limit.

Gear & luggage flexibility42
#5 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The flush-folding 60/40 rear seat and hidden underfloor storage help, but with a maximum of 45.8 cu ft the Kona swallows less bulky gear than most rivals.

9Driving ExperienceMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.17C
Handling & agility68
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The Kona is one of the more agile subcompact crossovers: light, composed and grippy, with good body control. AWD models get a multi-link rear suspension.

Steering feel58
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The steering is quick and accurately weighted but gives little road feel.

Braking confidence60
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The brakes stop the Kona smoothly in town with a predictable pedal, and emergency-stop performance is average for the class.

Powertrain smoothness & response55
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The volume trims' conventional six-speed automatic shifts smoothly and avoids CVT rubber-banding. The 147-hp 2.0L, with its high-rpm torque peak, feels strained when merging or passing.

Drivetrain noise & vibration46
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 2.0L gets coarse when revved hard, which adds to a cabin reviewers already call loud.

Turning circle
34.8 ft curb-to-curb
90/100
#2 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

A very tight turning circle for an SUV makes U-turns and parking easy.

Driving position & ergonomics60
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Controls are logically laid out, with physical knobs and buttons, and the seating position is reasonably commanding. The volume SEL's height-only manual seat limits adjustment unless you add the Tech package, and the thick rear pillars block the over-the-shoulder view.

Fun-to-drive factor60
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The chassis is playful for the class, but the 2.0L volume trims lack the punch to make it truly fun. The 175-hp turbo Limited and Ultimate, which Consumer Guide calls among the most powerful in the class, are the enthusiast picks.

10Value & Market PositionOne of the Kona's strongest categories.2.93B-
Standard equipment generosity66
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The $19,500 SE came with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a rearview camera. The SEL added blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alerts, but for 2018 forward collision avoidance and lane-keeping assist were reserved for the top Ultimate trim, and the SE and SEL kept halogen headlights that IIHS rated Poor.

Feature value per dollar74
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

An AWD SEL at about $23,300 delivered, and a 175-hp turbo Limited from about $25,600, made the Kona one of the better content-for-money buys in the 2018 subcompact class against the HR-V, CX-3 and C-HR. Advanced driver assistance limited to the top trim keeps it short of a standout score.

Trim & configuration breadth70
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The 2018 range offers four trims (SE, SEL, Limited, Ultimate), each with FWD or AWD, and two engines (2.0L and 1.6T). The Kona Electric didn't arrive until the 2019 model year.

Sales popularity & market acceptance66
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

Sales ramped quickly from the spring 2018 launch, but the Kona's partial first year was well behind class leaders such as the Crosstrek, Trax and HR-V.

Brand desirability & image60
#3 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

In 2018 Hyundai was a well-regarded mainstream brand, known for value and its warranty, but it lacked the loyalty halo of Toyota, Honda or Subaru.

Deals & incentive availability66
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

As an all-new launch-year model, the Kona carried lighter incentives at first, but by late 2018 Hyundai was offering bonus cash and promotional APR in a pre-pandemic market where it sold below MSRP.

Model freshness90
#4 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

2018 is the Kona's debut model year: an all-new first generation, with no redesign due until the second generation for 2024.

Critical reception & awards84
#1 of 7 Subcompact SUVsCompare all →

The Kona was among the best-reviewed subcompact crossovers at launch. It earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ (Ultimate trim, built after May 2018) and was named 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, an award that recognised the launch generation.
