The 2026 Wrangler 4xe is the most capable plug-in hybrid off-roader you can buy, and it is also one of the least practical vehicles on this list for anything else. The 375 hp / 470 lb-ft PHEV setup lets a Rubicon 4xe crawl a rock trail in near silence on 21 miles of electric range while keeping every Dana 44 axle, locker and sway-bar disconnect that makes a Wrangler a Wrangler. The trade is severe: 20 MPG once the battery is gone, a 370-mile total range that is actually shorter than the gas V6's, roughly $60,000 for a volume Sahara 4xe, and a reliability record that includes a high-voltage fire-risk recall.
