The 2026 ID.4 is the comfortable, cheap-to-run electric crossover — 112 MPGe, roughly $700 a year in electricity, a ride that soaks up broken pavement better than any Korean rival, and the full IQ.DRIVE safety suite standard on the cheapest trim. What it asks in return is patience: 275–291 miles of range and a 175 kW charging peak make road trips slower than the 800-volt competition, the reliability and recall record is among the worst in the class, and five-year resale of about 40 percent is the floor of the compact-SUV band. It is a car to buy heavily discounted and keep for a long time, not one to finance at sticker and trade in at year four. Shoppers who charge at home, drive mostly local miles and negotiate hard will get a lot of car for the money; everyone else should look at an Ioniq 5 first.
