The verdict

A mixed-report full-size luxury suv, strong on performance and held back by ownership.

The 2020 Tesla Model X pairs eyebrow-raising dual-motor acceleration (4.4 seconds to 60 mph on the Long Range Plus) and a perfect 5-star NHTSA safety rating with class-leading rear headroom and a 351-mile EPA range backed by Tesla's Supercharger network. But the speed and tech come at a steep cost: at roughly $83,000 as typically equipped, it posts some of the weakest reliability and resale figures in the luxury SUV class, and its standard 5-seat layout with a cramped optional third row makes it a better fit for couples and small families than true 3-row haulers. This is a car for buyers who prioritize acceleration, cabin tech and efficiency over long-term cost certainty and dealer-network peace of mind.

3SafetyOne of the Model X's strongest categories.2.67C+
NHTSA overall rating
5 stars overall (5/5 frontal, 5/5 side, 5-star rollover rating, 9.3% rollover risk)
100/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

NHTSA rated this generation 5 stars overall with 5 stars in every frontal and side sub-category, the first SUV to do so; the 2020 model year carries the same unchanged body structure.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness45
#3 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

IIHS has not put the Model X through its current full test battery, so it holds no Top Safety Pick award and no published crashworthiness subscores for this generation — a gap rather than a poor result, but the item measures the IIHS record specifically and that record is absent.

Standard ADAS suite breadth88
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla made base Autopilot (traffic-aware cruise control + Autosteer lane centering) standard across the whole lineup in April 2019, and the 2020 Model X carries automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, camera-based blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert as standard on every trim — there is no lower trim missing these.

Automatic emergency braking performance68
#3 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

No IIHS front crash prevention test (day/night, vehicle or pedestrian) exists for this generation of Model X, so there is no instrumented superior/advanced rating to cite; Tesla's camera-plus-radar AEB is standard and generally well-regarded in owner and press reporting, but without an independent day/night pedestrian test this lands in the adequate-but-unverified band rather than the top tier.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage65
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Blind-spot collision warning (chime + red-bar camera display on turn signal) and a camera-based rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every 2020 Model X trim, but both are alert-only — Tesla does not steer or brake the car away from a detected blind-spot or cross-traffic hazard in 2020, so it sits in the capable-but-not-active-intervention band.

Lane keeping & centering60
#3 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Standard Autosteer centers reliably on clear, well-marked highways, but owners and reviewers of this era consistently describe a 'ping-pong' oscillation at merges and lane-line gaps and a tendency to hug the driver-side line rather than the lane center — functional, with real wander.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist78
#2 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Standard Traffic-Aware Cruise Control covers the full speed range including stop-and-go, and is widely cited as one of the more refined systems of its era; full highway-interchange assist (Navigate on Autopilot, automatic lane change) is gated behind the optional $7,000 FSD package rather than standard, which keeps this just short of the top band.

Hands-free driving availability15
#3 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

2020 Autopilot and the optional FSD package both require the driver's hands on the wheel (torque-sensing nag) at all times — there is no hands-free highway mode on any 2020 Model X trim, unlike contemporaries beginning to offer eyes-on hands-off systems.

Headlight performance45
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

IIHS has not published a headlight rating for the Model X (its headlight rankings of this era covered cars, not this SUV), so there is no Good/Acceptable/Marginal verdict to cite; absent a rating, this is scored to the segment-norm band rather than assumed good, since Tesla's headlight ratings on tested nameplates of this period (e.g. Model 3) started below 'Good' before later revisions.

Outward visibility55
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The panoramic windshield gives the front seats an unusually open overhead view, but thick A-pillars create real forward-corner blind spots that owners report hiding an entire car while turning, and the falcon-wing doors narrow the view out the second row — a wash between an excellent front view and compromised corners, landing at average.

Child-seat (LATCH) usability78
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The falcon-wing doors open to a tall, wide aperture that lets a caregiver stand upright while buckling a car seat — a genuine ease-of-access advantage — and LATCH lower anchors are present at all three second-row positions plus both outboard third-row seats; the tradeoff is tight third-row knee and head room that limits which seats fit back there.

4Space & ComfortOne of the Model X's weakest categories.1.70C-
Seating capacity
5 seats standard (6- or 7-seat configurations optional)
25/100
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

2020 Model X ships with 5-seat configuration as standard; 6-seat (dual 2nd-row captain's chairs) and 7-seat layouts are paid options.

Front headroom

Tall glass roofline and panoramic windshield give the Model X class-leading front headroom.

Front legroom
41.2 in
27/100
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Front legroom is adequate but near the low end of the full-size luxury SUV band.

Rear headroom
40.9 in
100/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Second-row headroom is excellent thanks to the falcon-wing door roofline cutting high into the glass roof.

Rear legroom
38.4 in
70/100
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Second-row legroom is generous for the segment, helped by the flat battery-floor platform.

Third-row usability35
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The volume 5-seat configuration has no third row at all. The optional 6/7-seat layouts add a usable-for-kids third row (3rd-row headroom 37.1 in, legroom 32.7 in) but it remains tight for adults and costs thousands extra, so the as-sold vehicle scores in the low band.

Cargo/trunk volume
39.2 cu ft (5-seat config, incl. front trunk); 35.2–36.0 cu ft behind 2nd row on 6/7-seat configs
26/100
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Cargo volume behind the front row/second row is modest for a full-size SUV despite the vehicle's large footprint, since the sloped rear roofline and falcon-wing door mechanisms eat into rear volume.

Max cargo volume
88 cu ft (all rear seats folded, incl. front trunk)
73/100
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

With all rear seats folded, total cargo capacity (rear area plus frunk) is strong for the segment.

In-cabin storage & clever solutions58
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The front trunk is a genuine clever-storage win, but the pre-refresh 2020 center console is notably sparse — a shallow bin and cupholders with no covered storage box, criticized by reviewers of this generation.

Seat comfort60
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Front seats are supportive for most drivers but several reviews note flatter cushioning than rival luxury SUVs; second-row captain's chairs (6-seat) are praised when equipped.

Ride quality55
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Standard air suspension smooths most surfaces but ride is on the firmer, busier side at speed, especially on larger wheel options — composed rather than plush.

Cabin quietness58
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The electric powertrain is near-silent, but the large frontal area, falcon-wing door seals and panoramic glass let in more wind noise at highway speed than rival luxury SUVs.

Climate & comfort features75
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Heated front and second-row seats and a heated steering wheel are standard, plus Tesla's HEPA cabin air filtration (Bioweapon Defense Mode) is unique to the segment; ventilated seats are not yet offered on this pre-refresh generation.

5Cost of OwnershipThe Model X's lowest-graded category.0.00F
Base MSRP
$81,190 (Long Range Plus AWD $79,990 + $1,200 destination); Performance AWD $99,990 + destination; early-2020 Long Range (pre-June update) was $84,990
0/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Standard Range was dropped from the lineup in early 2020, leaving Long Range (later renamed Long Range Plus, 351 mi) and Performance. Long Range Plus is the entry trim for most of the model year at $79,990, well above the $25,000–65,000 SUV band ceiling.

Volume-Trim Price
≈$83,190 as typically equipped (Long Range Plus AWD $79,990 + $1,200 destination + ~$2,000 typical paint/wheel options); $81,190–$101,190 before further options
0/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Long Range Plus outsold Performance by a wide margin and is the volume trim; a typically-optioned build adds destination plus a paid paint color, landing near $83,000 — far above the $27,000–68,000 SUV band ceiling.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
≈$4,200 over 5 years (Edmunds-style estimate: ~$2,300 maintenance + ~$1,900 repairs); CarEdge ≈$1,841, other estimates run $3,250–$4,750
82/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

No oil changes or traditional drivetrain service; EV maintenance is limited to tire rotations, cabin filters and brake fluid, but Model X carries extra repair exposure from air suspension and falcon-wing door hardware versus a conventional SUV. Figures are drawn from general Model X cost-to-own data rather than a 2020-specific study.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
≈35% of MSRP retained after 5 years (sources range 32.6%–37%)
0/100
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Model X depreciates faster than nearly any other vehicle in its class, worsened for the 2020 car specifically by Tesla's repeated price cuts in the following years and the more significant 2021 facelift/Plaid update that dated the pre-refresh look; retention sits well below the SUV band floor.

Basic warranty
4 years / 50,000 miles
50/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla's Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty on the Model X is 4 years or 50,000 miles, the luxury-class norm — mid-band on this item.

Powertrain warranty
8 years / 150,000 miles battery & drive unit (minimum 70% capacity retention)
60/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The AWD Model X carries Tesla's longest battery/drive-unit term, 8 years or 150,000 miles with a 70% minimum capacity guarantee — strong on mileage, standard on years.

Complimentary maintenance & perks45
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

No complimentary scheduled maintenance plan is included with purchase in 2020; owners pay for annual service visits. Roadside assistance is bundled for the duration of the 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, and free Supercharging miles were available only via the referral program (not a standard purchase perk) — Tesla briefly extended referral-earned free miles during the pandemic in 2020. Scores below the richer 2025-era free-Supercharging promotions.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$58,274 (≈$54,074 depreciation + $4,200 maintenance)
0/100
#2 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

$83,190 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (35% retained, or about $29,116) leaves about $54,074 in depreciation. Add the projected $4,200 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $58,274 in total.

6Reliability & QualityOne of the Model X's weakest categories.0.80F
Predicted reliability32
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Consumer Reports flagged the 2020 Model X as much less reliable than the average new vehicle, driven by body hardware, in-car electronics and falcon-wing door issues rather than drivetrain failure.

Brand reliability track record24
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla posted the worst score in J.D. Power's 2020 Initial Quality Study, well behind the industry average, and has sat near the bottom of J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study in the surrounding years.

Recall & TSB history48
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

NHTSA lists 10 recalls touching the 2020 Model X across its production run (seat-belt chime, roof trim adhesion, touchscreen/eMMC wear carried over from earlier years), most remedied over-the-air, but the count is high relative to segment peers.

Powertrain durability reputation82
#2 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The battery pack and dual-motor drive unit used in the 2020 Model X have a strong high-mileage track record, with documented packs exceeding 300,000-400,000 miles retaining roughly 85-90% of original capacity.

Interior material quality52
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Cabin materials improved over the earliest Model X years with a nicer multi-coat paint and trim, but reviewers still criticized hard plastics and switchgear feel as unremarkable for a six-figure luxury SUV.

Fit & finish30
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The falcon-wing doors and large rear hatch produced persistent panel-gap and alignment inconsistencies even in the 2020 model year, and Tesla's industry-worst J.D. Power initial-quality score was driven specifically by panel fit, paint and rattle complaints.

Dealer & service network35
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla's factory-direct service network was far sparser than legacy luxury-SUV competitors in 2020, with owners reporting multi-week waits for service appointments and long phone hold times.

Parts availability & repair cost28
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Model X parts are expensive and often back-ordered, with no independent aftermarket or multi-brand body shop network to fall back on, driving some of the highest collision-repair and insurance costs in the segment.

7Technology & InfotainmentMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.46C+
Touchscreen size
17 in landscape touchscreen
100/100
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The 17-inch center touchscreen is standard across all 2020 Model X trims and is the largest in the segment.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness87
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla's infotainment is consistently rated among the fastest and most capable in the industry, with frequent OTA feature additions, though some reviewers note an over-reliance on touch for basic functions like climate and mirrors.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto15
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in any form (wired or wireless) by design, relying entirely on its own proprietary infotainment stack.

Voice control & native navigation62
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Native navigation is strong, with real-time Supercharger routing and traffic-aware trip planning built into the system, but 2020-model-year voice control was limited to basic commands — Tesla's fuller 'Hey Tesla' natural-language assistant arrived in a later software update.

Audio system quality82
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The standard premium audio system (22 speakers in this generation) is well regarded, delivering strong sound quality without a separate upgraded-audio trim tier.

Digital instrument cluster48
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

This pre-refresh generation has no configurable gauge cluster behind the wheel — only a small supplemental horizontal LCD strip showing speed and Autopilot visualization, with most information routed through the central 17-inch screen.

OTA update capability95
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla pioneered full-vehicle over-the-air updates that add real features (range, performance, UI, Autopilot behavior), far beyond the infotainment/maps-only OTA typical of this era's rivals.

Companion app & remote functions90
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The Tesla app offers phone-as-key, remote climate/charging control, vehicle locate, and summon functions at no extra subscription cost in 2020 — a benchmark app experience.

Charging ports & device power55
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

USB ports are provided for front and rear occupants, but this pre-refresh generation does not yet include a built-in wireless phone charging pad, which arrived in the 2021 facelift.

Keyless & remote access85
#2 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Standard keyless entry, phone-as-key via the Tesla app, auto-presenting falcon-wing doors, and a power liftgate give the Model X full keyless convenience without relying on a traditional key fob.

Camera & parking aids62
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

A rear camera and parking sensors are standard, and the Autopilot camera suite supports driver assistance, but a full surround/bird's-eye view was not yet available at 2020 model-year launch, trailing rivals that offered 360-degree camera systems.

Head-up display availability10
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

No head-up display is offered on the Model X in any trim; speed and driver information are shown on the small instrument strip and center touchscreen instead.

8Use-Case FitMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.00C
Kid & car-seat practicality65
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The falcon-wing doors open straight up in tight parking spots, easing car-seat loading, and the low door sills help; against that, the doors' sensor-based auto-close behavior and slower cycle time can frustrate daily loading compared to conventional doors.

Family safety package82
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The Model X was the first SUV to earn 5-star ratings in every NHTSA sub-category, and Autopilot (automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure avoidance) is standard on every trim with no paywall for core ADAS.

Family road-trip comfort65
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Second-row space and headroom are excellent for multi-hour trips and the frunk adds genuine extra luggage room, but the standard 5-seat configuration has no third row and rear entertainment/climate amenities are basic versus rival luxury SUVs.

Daily driving ease72
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Instant, smooth EV power delivery and strong regenerative one-pedal-style driving make stop-and-go traffic relaxed, though the vehicle's large footprint adds some effort in tight urban environments.

Commuting cost efficiency58
#1 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

EV running costs undercut comparable gas luxury SUVs, but at 96 MPGe combined the Model X is on the less-efficient end of the EV spectrum due to its size and weight, so per-mile savings are real but smaller than other EVs.

Parking & maneuverability42
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

A 198-inch length, 78.7-inch width and 40.8-foot turning circle make this one of the larger, less maneuverable vehicles in the segment, and the falcon-wing doors require clearance overhead that standard-door SUVs don't, complicating some tight garages and parking structures.

Work capability52
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

A 5,000-lb tow rating is usable for light trailers, but Tesla itself cautions that towing sharply cuts range, and there is no cargo bed or heavy-duty capability — adequate for light-duty hauling only.

Durability for work duty40
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

As a luxury-oriented EV with complex falcon-wing door mechanisms and a mixed early reliability record, the Model X is not positioned or proven for hard fleet/work use.

Jobsite & upfit practicality28
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

There is no bed, minimal factory tie-down provisions, and no upfit ecosystem; onboard power is limited to cabin 12V/USB outlets rather than job-site-usable AC power.

Long-distance comfort & range78
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

328–351 miles of EPA range (Long Range/Long Range Plus) plus a quiet cabin, comfortable seats, and standard Autopilot driver assistance make this a strong highway tourer, aided by Tesla's Supercharger network for trip planning.

Outdoor & adventure capability55
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Standard dual-motor AWD and adjustable air suspension give reasonable light-duty capability, plus a 5,000-lb tow rating for small trailers/toys, but the Model X is not built or marketed for off-pavement use and the falcon-wing doors complicate roof-rack-based gear hauling.

Gear & luggage flexibility60
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The frunk plus a flat-folding rear seat (88 cu ft max) give real flexibility for bulky gear, and a tow hitch option supports bike/cargo racks, though roof-rack use is constrained by the falcon-wing door geometry.

9Driving ExperienceMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.27C
Handling & agility68
#3 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

A low center of gravity from the floor-mounted battery pack gives the Model X surprisingly composed body control for its size and ~5,400-lb curb weight, but it remains a tall, heavy SUV rather than an agile handler.

Steering feel50
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Steering is accurate and well-weighted at speed but lacks meaningful road feedback, a common criticism of this era's Tesla steering tune.

Braking confidence62
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Strong regenerative braking blends reasonably with the friction brakes and stopping power is adequate, though the regen-to-friction transition is less seamless than Tesla's later software tunes.

Powertrain smoothness & response85
#2 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Dual-motor AWD delivers instant, seamless torque with no shift shock or turbo lag, widely praised as a Model X strength.

Drivetrain noise & vibration78
#5 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The electric motors are quiet and vibration-free under most driving, with only a mild high-frequency whine under hard acceleration noted by some reviewers.

Turning circle
40.8 ft curb-to-curb
15/100
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

At 40.8 feet, the Model X's turning circle sits near the wide end of the SUV band, reflecting its large overall footprint.

Driving position & ergonomics62
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The panoramic windshield gives an excellent forward view and seats/wheel adjust over a wide range, but routing many controls (mirrors, wipers, glovebox) through the touchscreen rather than physical controls is a recurring ergonomic criticism.

Fun-to-drive factor60
#3 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The instant torque and quick acceleration (4.4s 0-60 in Long Range form, faster in Performance) are genuinely enjoyable, but the numb steering and SUV dynamics keep it from being an engaging driver's vehicle overall.

10Value & Market PositionMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.03C
Standard equipment generosity75
#2 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Both 2020 trims come loaded without option packages: three-row seating (5/6/7 configurable), 17-in center touchscreen, panoramic windshield, HEPA 'Bioweapon Defense Mode' filtration, adaptive air suspension, power falcon-wing doors, and Autopilot (traffic-aware cruise + lane keep) all standard — content that rivals like the GLS, X7 or Navigator charge thousands extra for. Deductions: no Android Auto/CarPlay, Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving are extra-cost options, and interior finish trails the German flagships at this price.

Feature value per dollar68
#3 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Roughly 4.4s 0-60 (Long Range Plus) or sub-3s (Performance Ludicrous), ~351 miles of range, standard AWD and Supercharger network access for $79,990–$99,990 undercuts comparable-performance luxury SUVs by a wide margin. Offset: unlike earlier Model X buyers, the 2020 car qualifies for $0 federal EV tax credit (Tesla's credit fully phased out as of January 2020), erasing what had been a meaningful discount for the nameplate.

Trim & configuration breadth52
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Two trims (Long Range Plus, Performance) on one body and battery architecture; configurability is limited to paint, wheels, interior color, FSD, and 5/6/7-seat layouts. Seating flexibility is a genuine differentiator, but the lineup is far narrower than traditional automakers laddering multiple powertrains and packages.

Sales popularity & market acceptance40
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

US Model X volume was declining through 2020 — the Model Y's March 2020 launch gave Tesla a cheaper, more practical electric SUV that absorbed much of the demand that would otherwise go to the X. Global Model X deliveries for the year were roughly 31,000, a fraction of segment leaders and down from prior peaks.

Brand desirability & image78
#6 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

2020 sat near the peak of Tesla's cultural and financial momentum (stock up roughly 700% on the year, S&P 500 inclusion announced in late 2020), with strong owner loyalty and a halo from Autopilot/Supercharger network and the falcon-wing doors' novelty — well ahead of where Tesla brand sentiment stood in later, more polarized years.

Deals & incentive availability22
#7 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Tesla's no-haggle, direct-sales model means no dealer markdowns, and the federal EV tax credit for Tesla vehicles had fully phased out to $0 by January 1, 2020 — buyers pay list price with no financing incentives comparable to traditional luxury SUV brands running lease cash and APR specials.

Model freshness47
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

The Model X is a single generation dating to 2016; by 2020 it is 4 years into that generation with no major refresh yet applied (the substantial Palladium-interior/Plaid update arrived for 2021). Mid-cycle but visibly aging against newer luxury SUV interiors and infotainment.

Critical reception & awards66
#4 of 7 Full-Size Luxury SUVsCompare all →

Reviewers praised acceleration, range, standard AWD and cargo/towing capability, and NHTSA rated the 2020 Model X 5 stars overall; but build-quality complaints (panel gaps, falcon-wing door reliability) and a cramped, pricey third row kept it off top-of-comparison lists against conventional three-row luxury SUVs. No NACTOY or 10Best wins for the nameplate.
