The verdict

A struggling mid-size sedan, strong on efficiency and held back by technology.

The 2017 Camry Hybrid is a dependable, economical used buy: 40 MPG combined, roughly 680 miles per tank, a roomy rear seat and some of the best reliability marks of its era, starting around $27,625 new for the volume Hybrid LE. It is the last year of a generation Toyota replaced months after launch, and it shows its age. There is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and the screen is 6.1 inches. Automatic emergency braking and lane alerts came only in an optional upper-grade package, so most cars on the used market don't have them. Buy it for low-stress ownership, not for tech, safety assists or driving fun.

Detailed scoring by subject

1Performance & PowertrainOne of the Camry's weakest categories.0.29F
Horsepower
200 hp net (Hybrid LE/SE/XLE); lineup max 268 hp (3.5L V6, gas)
18/100
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 2017 model year is the last of the XV50 generation (2012–2017); the Hybrid Synergy Drive system makes 200 hp net on every hybrid grade.

Torque
156 lb-ft (2.5L engine); electric motor 199 lb-ft — Toyota quotes no combined system torque
11/100
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Toyota doesn't publish a net system torque figure, so this uses the gas engine's rated torque. The motor's 199 lb-ft comes in off the line, so in practice it pulls harder than 156 lb-ft suggests.

0–60 mph time
7.6 s (Toyota); 7.7 s Edmunds-tested Hybrid SE
29/100
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Quicker than the 178-hp four-cylinder Camry and behind the V6. That is brisk for a 2017 hybrid mid-size sedan.

Powertrain refinement70
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Engine stop/start and the switch between electric and gas drive are smooth and quiet at low speed, and the electric motor fills in torque off the line. The Atkinson four gets coarse and loud under hard acceleration.

Transmission behavior62
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The power-split eCVT never hunts or shift-shocks and is smooth in normal driving. Under heavy throttle it drones with the revs held high, and there is no simulated-gear manual mode.

AWD/4WD availability10
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Front-wheel drive only on every 2017 Camry, hybrid included. AWD did not come to the Camry until the 2020 model year, in the next generation.

Powertrain lineup breadth66
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Three distinct powertrains: a 2.5L four, a 3.5L V6 and a 200-hp hybrid. That is broad for the 2017 mid-size segment, but there is no plug-in, turbo or EV option.

2Efficiency & RangeThe Camry's best-graded category.4.00A+
3SafetyOne of the Camry's weakest categories.1.34D
NHTSA overall rating
5 stars overall (frontal 4 — driver 4 / passenger 5; side 5; side pole 4; rollover 4, 11.1% risk) — 2017 Camry Hybrid
100/100
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

NHTSA rates the 2017 Camry Hybrid 5 stars overall. The sub-scores are less uniform than the later XV70's: the driver frontal result and the side pole test are 4 stars and rollover is 4 stars, with only passenger frontal and side barrier at 5.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness72
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Every IIHS crash test the 2017 Camry was put through is Good: driver-side small overlap, moderate overlap, side, roof strength and head restraints. It is a Top Safety Pick+, but IIHS qualifies the award: it applies only with the optional front crash prevention system and specific headlights. The Hybrid LE/SE buyers mostly drive have neither, so as usually bought the car doesn't qualify. The passenger-side small overlap test was not run on this generation. All-Good crash results with an award that doesn't reach the volume trim puts this at the top of the middle band.

Standard ADAS suite breadth25
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Driver assistance on the 2017 Camry is all optional. Pre-collision braking, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert and Auto High Beam come only in the Technology Package on select upper grades, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is offered only on the XLE and XSE. Toyota Safety Sense did not become standard on every Camry until the 2018 XV70 redesign. The volume Hybrid LE/SE comes with 10 airbags, stability control and a backup camera, and no active driver assistance.

Automatic emergency braking performance35
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The only AEB is the optional Technology Package pre-collision system. IIHS rated it Advanced, but it only reduced impact speed: by 10 mph in the 12 mph test and just 5 mph in the 25 mph test, with no full stop. No pedestrian rating exists for this car. The volume Hybrid LE/SE has no automatic braking at all. That is basic AEB that most buyers don't get, so it scores in the low band.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage40
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert can only be had on the XLE and XSE grades. It only warns: no active braking or steering and no safe-exit alert. Volume LE/SE and Hybrid LE/SE buyers have no blind-spot or cross-traffic coverage at any price.

Lane keeping & centering25
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The only lane aid is Lane Departure Alert in the optional Technology Package on upper grades. On the 2015–17 Camry it is a warning system with no lane centering, and nothing is fitted on the volume trims. Lane Tracing Assist and steering-assist lane keeping arrive only with the 2018 redesign.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist30
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is offered only in the optional Technology Package on upper grades. On this generation it is a high-speed-range system that cancels at low speed, with no stop-and-go and no paired lane centering. The volume Hybrid LE/SE has only conventional cruise control.

Hands-free driving availability5
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

No hands-free or partial-automation driving is offered on any 2017 Camry. Even lane centering is absent, so there is nothing to build a highway-assist function on.

Headlight performance30
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

No 2017 Camry headlight rates Good. The volume LE/SE/XLE and Hybrid LE/SE/XLE halogen projectors without high-beam assist rate Marginal. The same halogens with the Technology Package's auto high beams rate only Acceptable, and the V6 XLE/XSE LED projectors rate Poor for excessive glare. Marginal on the volume trim and Poor on the most expensive lamps is low-band.

Outward visibility68
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The XV50 has a conservative greenhouse: a fairly upright windshield, a lower beltline and less-raked rear glass than the coupe-like XV70 that replaced it. Reviewers generally found sightlines good for the class, and a backup camera is standard. There is no 360-degree camera, and blind-spot monitoring is restricted to XLE/XSE, so the remaining rear-quarter blind zones are uncompensated on volume trims.

Child-seat (LATCH) usability60
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

IIHS rates LATCH ease of use Acceptable. Both outboard positions have complete hardware, but the lower anchors sit somewhat deep in the seat bight. The center position has only a tether anchor and cannot borrow lower anchors. Tether anchors are on the rear deck and easy to reach. It works but takes some digging, and the generous XV50 rear bench helps with fitting seats.

4Space & ComfortMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.41C+
Seating capacity
5 seats (all Camry Hybrid grades)
100/100
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Every 2017 Camry Hybrid seats five on a front-bucket, three-across rear bench layout.

Front headroom
38.8 in (without moonroof)
70/100
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

That is generous headroom for a mid-size sedan of the XV50 generation (2012–2017). The 2017 model year is a carry-over of the 2015 refresh.

Front legroom
41.6 in
40/100
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Front legroom is mid-pack for the segment and adequate for tall drivers.

Rear headroom
38.1 in
78/100
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The XV50's fairly upright roofline gives more rear headroom than fastback-roofed rivals.

Rear legroom
38.9 in
69/100
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Adults fit comfortably in the rear seat. The figure is typical for the 2017 mid-size class rather than class-leading.

Cargo/trunk volume
13.1 cu ft (Hybrid; gas Camry 15.4 cu ft)
31/100
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The hybrid's Ni-MH battery sits behind the rear seat, cutting the trunk from the gas car's 15.4 cu ft to 13.1 cu ft and shrinking the pass-through to the cabin.

In-cabin storage & clever solutions55
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Cabin storage is ordinary: a decent center console bin, door pockets and cupholders. On the hybrid the battery limits the rear pass-through, and there are no clever storage solutions.

Seat comfort68
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The front seats are broad and comfortable for commuting, though some reviewers find them flat and short on lateral support on long drives. The rear bench is roomy and well padded.

Ride quality72
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The Hybrid LE rides compliantly on 16-inch wheels and soaks up broken pavement well. The SE is firmer. The 2015 refresh tightened body control, and 2017 carries it over.

Cabin quietness68
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 2015 refresh added an acoustic windshield and extra sound deadening, so wind and road noise are well controlled at highway speed. The Atkinson-cycle engine gets loud under hard acceleration.

Climate & comfort features52
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard on the Hybrid grades. Heated front seats are limited to the XLE, and no 2017 grade offers ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, rear vents or remote pre-conditioning.

5Cost of OwnershipMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.47C+
Base MSRP
$23,905 (LE 2.5L gas incl. $835 DPH; $23,070 before freight) — Camry Hybrid LE opens at $27,625
94/100
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

2017 is the final model year of the seventh-generation (XV50) Camry, and Toyota held every price flat from 2016, so the ladder opens at the low end of the mid-size sedan band. The scored hybrid's entry grade sits $3,720 above the gas LE.

Volume-Trim Price
$27,625 (Hybrid LE incl. $835 DPH); Hybrid SE $28,830 · Hybrid XLE $30,975
89/100
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

This scorecard describes the hybrid, and the Hybrid LE is the volume hybrid grade — the fleet/value-oriented entry most Camry Hybrid buyers chose. Even the top Hybrid XLE stays near $31,000 delivered, so the hybrid range sits in the lower part of the segment band.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
≈$5,000 over 5 years, maintenance + repair (sources range ~$3,500–$6,600)
62/100
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The XV50 Camry Hybrid was a fully matured design by 2017 — Atkinson-cycle 2.5L, planetary eCVT with no conventional transmission or starter to wear, regenerative braking that spares pads — with commodity parts and ToyotaCare covering the first two years of service. Edmunds' gas-SE projection is the high outlier; the blended figure sits low-middle in the sedan band.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
≈55% of MSRP retained at 5 years (Hybrid LE; the gas Camry ran a few points higher)
67/100
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Toyota's resale strength carries over to the Camry Hybrid, but hybrids of this era depreciated faster than the gas Camry, and 2017 was the run-out year of a generation replaced months after launch, which pressured residuals. The 2022 used-car price spike, when these cars turned five, partially offset that.

Basic warranty
3 yr / 36,000 mi bumper-to-bumper (5 yr / unlimited mi corrosion perforation)
0/100
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Toyota's 36-month/36,000-mile basic coverage is the industry floor, level with Honda and Nissan but two years short of Hyundai and Kia.

Powertrain warranty
5 yr / 60,000 mi powertrain; hybrid-related components incl. traction battery 8 yr / 100,000 mi
0/100
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The headline powertrain term is Toyota's standard 5 years/60,000 miles, the segment floor against Hyundai/Kia's 10-year/100,000-mile coverage. The Camry Hybrid adds 8-year/100,000-mile hybrid-component coverage including the battery (the 10-year/150,000-mile battery term only arrived with MY2020).

Complimentary maintenance & perks62
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

ToyotaCare gives real included maintenance — every factory-scheduled service for 2 years/25,000 miles plus 2 years of unlimited-mileage roadside assistance — which Nissan and the domestics did not match in 2017. Beyond that the perks are thin: no connected-services trial of note on the volume Hybrid LE and a shorter window than the 3-year/36,000-mile plans some rivals later offered.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$17,431 (≈$12,431 depreciation + $5,000 maintenance)
81/100
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

$27,625 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (55% retained, or about $15,194) leaves about $12,431 in depreciation. Add the projected $5,000 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $17,431 in total.

6Reliability & QualityOne of the Camry's strongest categories.3.78A
Predicted reliability88
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 2017 Camry Hybrid is the final model year of the XV50 generation (2012–2017), a mature carry-over design, and both major sources rate it well above average for its model year.

Brand reliability track record88
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

In the 2016–2018 period Toyota sat consistently near the top of both Consumer Reports' brand reliability rankings and J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study among mass-market brands.

Recall & TSB history84
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The few campaigns covering a 2017 Camry are narrow and minor. One was a short production window of knee-airbag fasteners, and the others were distributor-level label and spare-tire-pressure fixes. No powertrain, fire or hybrid-system recall has been filed.

Powertrain durability reputation90
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 2.5 L 2AR-FXE Atkinson engine with Toyota Hybrid System II and an eCVT is a proven, high-mileage powertrain family, with many examples in taxi and fleet service. The NiMH hybrid batteries are known for long life, and the hybrid components carry an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty.

Interior material quality60
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 2015 refresh added a stitched soft-touch dash panel, but the cabin of this last-year XV50 still uses plenty of hard plastics. Reviewers called it durable but plain next to the Accord, Mazda6 and Optima of the same era.

Fit & finish80
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Built in Georgetown, Kentucky, at the end of a mature production run, the car has consistent assembly and few owner complaints about rattles or misaligned panels. J.D. Power's quality scores support that.

Dealer & service network88
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Toyota has one of the densest US dealer networks, at about 1,200+ stores, and every dealer services hybrids. Service satisfaction is about average to above average among mass-market brands.

Parts availability & repair cost86
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Parts are abundant and inexpensive, both OEM and aftermarket, because the XV50 Camry is one of the best-selling cars in the US. Hybrid-specific parts such as the inverter and HV battery cost more, but remanufactured and used units are widely available.

7Technology & InfotainmentThe Camry's lowest-graded category.0.00F
Touchscreen size
6.1 in Entune Audio (Hybrid LE/SE); 7.0 in Entune Audio Plus (Hybrid XLE)
0/100
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The volume Hybrid LE has a 6.1-inch touchscreen, which is small by today's standards. The largest screen offered is 7 inches.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness50
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Entune is simple and backed by physical knobs, so basic functions are easy. The small screen has dated graphics and slow responses, and the app-dependent features are clunky.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto5
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

No 2017 Camry offers Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, wired or wireless. Toyota first added CarPlay to the Camry for 2019.

There are basic voice commands and Siri Eyes Free. Navigation on the XLE is a smartphone-tethered Connected Navigation App rather than embedded nav, and the LE has no navigation at all.

Audio system quality55
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The LE's six-speaker base system is adequate. The XLE's 10-speaker JBL system with HD and satellite radio is a worthwhile upgrade.

Digital instrument cluster40
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Every grade has analog Optitron gauges with a 4.2-inch color TFT display between them showing hybrid energy flow and economy. No full-digital cluster is offered.

OTA update capability10
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The car has no embedded modem and no over-the-air updates. Software changes require a dealer visit.

Companion app & remote functions20
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The Entune App Suite only puts streaming and search apps on the head unit. Remote start, remote lock and vehicle-locate didn't arrive until the 2018 XV70 added Toyota Remote Connect.

Charging ports & device power35
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

There is a single USB-A media port and 12V outlets, with no USB-C and no rear USB. Qi wireless charging is limited to the Hybrid XLE.

Keyless & remote access55
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Hybrid grades come with Smart Key proximity entry and push-button start. No factory remote start or phone-as-key is offered.

Camera & parking aids35
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

A low-resolution backup camera is standard. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is an XLE option, and there are no parking sensors or 360-degree camera.

Head-up display availability0
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

No 2017 Camry offers a head-up display. A HUD first appeared on the 2018 XV70.

8Use-Case FitGrades below the middle of the scale.1.59D
Kid & car-seat practicality62
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The large rear doors, upright roof and 38.9 in of rear legroom make car-seat installs easy. The hybrid's 13.1 cu ft trunk and limited pass-through constrain strollers and gear.

Family safety package74
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Toyota Safety Sense P (pre-collision braking, lane departure alert, auto high beams, radar cruise) and 10 airbags are standard on every 2017 Camry. It earned IIHS Top Safety Pick+, but blind-spot monitoring is limited to upper grades.

Family road-trip comfort56
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The rear seat is roomy and the car is quiet, with long range. Rear amenities are thin (no rear vents or rear USB), and the shrunken hybrid trunk struggles with luggage for four.

Daily driving ease76
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

It is smooth and quiet in stop-and-go traffic, with EV-mode creep, light controls and good outward visibility. Standard radar cruise eases highway commutes.

Commuting cost efficiency80
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

EPA rates the Hybrid LE at 42 MPG city, and it runs on regular fuel with an estimated annual fuel cost of about $1,700. Hybrid brake wear is low and Toyota maintenance is inexpensive.

Parking & maneuverability64
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 36.7 ft turning circle and good sightlines make it easy to place for a mid-size sedan. It has only a basic backup camera, with no parking sensors or surround view.

Work capability18
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The hybrid has no published US tow rating, and its trunk is reduced by the battery. It isn't meaningfully work-capable beyond carrying small tools or samples.

Durability for work duty72
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

XV50 Camry Hybrids are taxi and fleet staples, and the Hybrid Synergy Drive has a proven high-mileage record. The cabin isn't built for hard use.

Jobsite & upfit practicality12
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

There is no onboard power beyond 12V, no tie-downs, no hitch provision and no upfit ecosystem.

Long-distance comfort & range68
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

It has about 680 miles of range, a quiet cruise and a compliant ride, with standard radar cruise and lane departure alert. There is no steering-assist lane keeping, and the seats lack long-haul support.

Outdoor & adventure capability25
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

It is front-drive only with low ground clearance, no tow rating and no factory roof rails, though it handles graded dirt roads fine.

Gear & luggage flexibility30
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 13.1 cu ft trunk is small for the class, and the battery restricts the rear pass-through. There is no hitch or roof rails.

9Driving ExperienceMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.08C
Handling & agility60
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The 2015 refresh's stiffer structure makes it secure and predictable, but it is softly tuned, with body lean and modest grip on eco tires. The Hybrid SE's firmer suspension sharpens it slightly.

Steering feel55
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The electric power steering is accurate and well weighted at speed but transmits little road feel.

Braking confidence62
#5 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Stopping power is adequate, but the blend of regenerative and friction braking gives a somewhat artificial, non-linear pedal typical of Toyota hybrids of this era.

Powertrain smoothness & response70
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Engine start/stop and the switch between EV and gas drive are seamless, and the electric motor gives brisk tip-in. The eCVT holds revs high under hard throttle.

Drivetrain noise & vibration62
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

It is near-silent at low speed and in EV mode. The Atkinson four drones loudly when the eCVT holds high revs under heavy acceleration.

Turning circle
36.7 ft curb-to-curb
55/100
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The turning circle is average for a mid-size sedan.

Driving position & ergonomics70
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The power driver's seat and tilt/telescope wheel suit most sizes, and the low cowl gives good visibility. Controls are logically laid out with physical buttons, and the large doors make getting in and out easy.

Fun-to-drive factor40
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

This is the appliance archetype: competent, efficient and quiet, but uninvolving. The 2017 Accord was considerably more engaging.

10Value & Market PositionOne of the Camry's strongest categories.2.68C+
Standard equipment generosity68
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

For 2017 Toyota made Toyota Safety Sense P (pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, full-speed dynamic radar cruise) standard on every Camry — ahead of most mainstream mid-size rivals, which still charged extra for automatic emergency braking — alongside 10 airbags and a backup camera. The Hybrid LE otherwise ships a small 6.1-inch Entune Audio screen, cloth seats and no Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, so it is competitive rather than lavish.

Feature value per dollar72
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The Hybrid LE delivers an EPA 40 mpg combined, 200 hp and standard TSS-P for about $27,600 delivered, and run-out deals on the outgoing generation widened that margin. Against it, the 2017 car was an aging design with a dated cabin and infotainment beside the Accord Hybrid and Sonata Hybrid, so it reads as good value rather than the segment bargain.

Trim & configuration breadth76
#2 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Three powertrains (2.5L four, 3.5L V6, hybrid) across LE, SE, XLE, XSE and three hybrid grades, plus a Special Edition, give a continuous ladder from about $23,900 to $32,200 delivered. There was no all-wheel drive and no manual, and the hybrid offered only three grades, so it trails the very broadest lineups.

Sales popularity & market acceptance90
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

The Camry was America's best-selling passenger car again in calendar 2017 at 387,081 units, its 16th straight year on top, despite a mid-year generation changeover. The small deduction reflects a flat-to-falling trend as the mid-size sedan segment shrank against crossovers.

Brand desirability & image84
#1 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Toyota's reputation for durability and resale is one of the strongest in the mainstream market and directly protects owners at trade-in. It is a trusted rather than aspirational badge, and the Camry's 'appliance' image keeps this out of the top band.

Deals & incentive availability78
#4 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

As the run-out year of a generation whose replacement was revealed in January 2017 and on sale by late July, the 2017 Camry carried meaningful buyer incentives — promotional 0% APR in early 2017 and cash/financing offers through the clearance — without the desperation pricing of a weak seller.

Model freshness28
#6 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

2017 is the sixth and final model year of the XV50 generation that launched for 2012 (refreshed for 2015), and its all-new GA-K-based replacement was publicly revealed in January 2017 and on sale that summer — a buyer was knowingly taking an outgoing design.

Critical reception & awards62
#3 of 6 Mid-Size CarsCompare all →

Reviewers rated the 2017 Camry Hybrid as competent, efficient and dependable, and the 2017 Camry earned an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+, but it was rarely the class pick — comparison tests and 10Best went to the Accord, with the Mazda6 and Fusion praised for driving and design.
