The verdict
A mixed-report compact luxury suv, strong on efficiency and held back by performance.
The 2025 Lexus NX 350h is the compact luxury SUV you buy with your head: 39 MPG combined, the best predicted reliability and resale value in its class, and a $41,765 starting price that undercuts every German rival by thousands. What it is not is quick, spacious, or exciting — 240 hp and a 7.2-second 0–60 are mid-pack, and 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat is the smallest in the segment and barely half of what the mechanically related Toyota RAV4 gives you. Buy it if a quiet, cheap-to-own, trouble-free luxury crossover is the point; shop the Acura RDX, BMW X3 or Genesis GV70 if you want room or drama. Note that 2025 is a Top Safety Pick rather than a TSP+ — IIHS says the rear-belt fix that earns the higher award arrives with the 2026 car.
Jump to scoresStrengths
- Best-in-class reliability, from the brand that wins the awards
- Safety gear that isn't locked behind a trim level
- The money holds up better than any rival's
What holds it back
- The cargo hold is the smallest in the class
- Slow by luxury-SUV standards, and no sporty hybrid exists
- Almost nothing to tow with, and no way to option around it

Detailed scoring by subject
1Performance & PowertrainThe NX's lowest-graded category.0.76F
Scored on the NX 350h, the volume electrified configuration of the 2025 range: a 2.5L Atkinson four plus front and rear drive motors for 240 combined system horsepower. That is mid-pack within the NX's own lineup and modest against the turbocharged German compact-luxury field, which starts around 255–275 hp and runs well past 350.
As with every power-split Toyota/Lexus hybrid, Lexus quotes only engine torque for the 350h, so the 179 lb-ft engine peak is the scored value and the motor contribution is noted rather than added. On paper this sits far below the ~280–320 lb-ft turbo torque of the X3, Q5, GLC and RDX, though instant motor torque masks much of the gap from a standstill.
Lexus quotes 7.2 seconds for the NX 350h AWD — adequate rather than quick, roughly half a second to a second behind the turbocharged German compacts, and slower than both the NX 350 and the PHEV above it in the range. Independent reviews of the hybrid land around 7.2–7.5 s, consistent with the factory claim.
Under mild throttle the hybrid system is quiet and linear, with the engine cutting in and out unobtrusively and instant motor torque giving the NX more initial urge than 240 hp suggests. It misses the top band for the well-documented Toyota trait: lean on it and the Atkinson four revs high and turns coarse, and 2025 owners specifically report intrusive engine noise under acceleration even at low speeds.
The planetary eCVT never hunts for gears and is genuinely unobtrusive at part throttle, which is an advantage over the low-speed hesitation of the dual-clutch and torque-converter units in rivals. Rubber-banding under acceleration — revs flaring and holding out of step with road speed — keeps it mid-pack rather than higher. The NX 250 and NX 350 use a conventional 8-speed automatic, the more decisive unit, but neither is the scored powertrain.
The GA-K unibody rather than the engine sets the limit, so every 2025 NX powertrain carries the identical 2,000-lb rating. That is the bottom rung of Lexus's own SUV towing ladder and well behind the 3,500–4,850 lb ratings of the GLC, Q5 and X3, though it clears the Acura RDX's 1,500 lbs.
For 2025 all-wheel drive is standard on three of the four NX models — the NX 350, the NX 350h and the NX 450h+ are AWD-only (the front-drive hybrid did not arrive until 2026) — and optional on the base NX 250, so it is effectively universal rather than reserved for top trims. It stays out of the 80s because the hardware is basic: the hybrids use E-Four, a slip-reactive rear electric motor with no driveshaft, and there is no low range, locking differential or terrain-mode selector anywhere in the lineup.
The NX is a pavement crossover on the GA-K unibody it shares with the RAV4: roughly 8.2 inches of ground clearance is respectable for the class, but there are no skid plates, no locking differentials, no crawl control and no off-road grade — nothing from the GX/Land Cruiser side of the Toyota house. Its AWD handles snow and gravel and stops there, placing it with the Q5 and GLC rather than with the Multi-Terrain-equipped RAV4 trims.
2025 is the broadest the second-generation NX gets: four genuinely distinct powertrains, two of them electrified — a 203-hp naturally aspirated 2.5L, a 275-hp 2.4L turbo, a 240-hp self-charging hybrid and a 304-hp plug-in hybrid with an EPA-estimated 37 miles of electric range — all on an 8-speed automatic or eCVT as appropriate. It stops short of the top of the band only because there is no battery-electric NX (that role falls to the RZ) and no performance F variant. The NX 250 was dropped after this model year, narrowing the range for 2026.
2Efficiency & RangeThe NX's best-graded category.4.00A+
The NX 350h's 39 MPG combined is the strongest non-plug-in figure in the compact luxury SUV class, comfortably ahead of the X3, GLC, Q5 and RDX and roughly 60% better than the NX's own 2.4L turbo. Within the hybrid-SUV band it lands mid-field, since dedicated hybrid crossovers like the RAV4 Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid sit in the low 40s.
Series-parallel operation and regenerative braking give the NX its best numbers in town, nearly doubling the turbocharged NX 350's city rating. For a 4,100-lb AWD luxury crossover, 41 MPG city is a genuinely strong result.
Highway is the weaker cycle for a power-split hybrid — the electric side contributes least at a steady cruise — but 37 MPG still leads the compact luxury SUV field among non-plug-in models and holds up well against the hybrid-SUV band, where high-30s is a strong showing.
EPA publishes 566 miles of total range for the NX 350h AWD from its 14.5-gallon tank — a real practical strength, since it clears 500 miles between fills without the large tank a comparable turbo SUV needs, and comfortably out-ranges every battery-electric rival in the segment.
EPA's own published figure, not a derivation: the NX 350h burns little fuel but Lexus recommends 91-octane premium, and at EPA's premium price assumption the octane premium eats much of the hybrid's advantage. That is why a car rated 39 MPG combined still scores poorly against hybrid peers, most of which run regular — the running cost, not the consumption, is what this item measures.
The classic recommended-not-required case: Lexus calls for 91-octane premium for full output but permits 87-octane regular with slightly reduced performance, so an owner can trade a little power for meaningfully cheaper fuel. It sits mid-band rather than higher because EPA's cost estimate — and most owners' habit — assumes the premium Lexus asks for, and because the turbocharged NX 350 elsewhere in the range is the stricter ask.
3SafetyOne of the NX's strongest categories.3.47B+
NHTSA crash-tested the 2025 NX 350h but publishes no overall NCAP score for it — the rollover test was not run, so the composite is withheld. The published subscores (4 stars frontal, 5 stars side and side pole) match the pattern of SUVs that do earn 5 stars overall, so 4.8 is used as an estimate rather than claiming an unpublished 5.
The 2025 NX is a Top Safety Pick — Good in small overlap front on both sides, Good in the updated side test, Good seat belt reminders and Good headlights — but only Acceptable in the updated moderate overlap front test, which is what keeps it off the TSP+ list. IIHS notes the rear seat belt changes that lift this car to all-Good (and TSP+) arrive with the 2026 model year, so 2025 sits just at the top of the award band rather than inside it.
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard on every 2025 NX — Pre-Collision System with pedestrian/cyclist detection and intersection support, full-speed-range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Proactive Driving Assist, Road Sign Assist and automatic high beams — and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard too, so none of the core five is trim-locked on the volume NX 350h Premium. Intuitive Parking Assist with automatic braking is newly standard for 2025.
The standard LSS+ 3.0 pre-collision system earns Good — the top grade — in both of IIHS's current front crash prevention evaluations, vehicle-to-vehicle and the updated pedestrian test that includes the harder nighttime and higher-speed runs. Short of the ceiling only because the system is alert-and-brake rather than adding evasive steering support.
Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert covers the volume trim, joined by Safe Exit Assist and newly standard Intuitive Parking Assist with automatic braking for 2025. Held below the top band because rear cross-traffic intervention — Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking — and the Panoramic View Monitor are upper-grade or optional rather than standard, leaving the base coverage alert-oriented.
Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist are standard and hold a lane competently when markings are clear, but owners and reviewers of this generation describe centering that can turn jerky and that degrades with faded lines or bad weather — mid-pack rather than the confident centering of the best luxury systems.
Full-speed-range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with stop-and-go and curve-speed management is standard on all 2025 grades and is well reviewed for smooth spacing and restarts from a standstill; the combined highway-assist experience stops short of the best because Lane Tracing Assist is the only lane component layered on top, with no traffic-jam or hands-off mode.
No hands-free highway mode is offered on any 2025 NX. Lexus Teammate Advanced Drive relies on lidar hardware the NX does not carry and remains confined to the LS, leaving the NX hands-on only at every grade.
IIHS rates the headlights Good on all three of the 2025 NX's tested lamp configurations, so the volume NX 350h is not stuck with a downgraded unit, and automatic high beams are standard with LSS+ 3.0. Adaptive high beam and triple-beam LED lighting remain upper-grade items.
The AZ20 NX's rising beltline, thick rear pillars and shallow rear glass restrict the over-the-shoulder and rearward view, and the ceiling-mounted center top-tether anchor blocks the mirror when in use. Camera compensation is good but costs extra — the Panoramic View Monitor and digital rearview mirror are optional or upper-grade rather than base equipment on 2025 cars.
IIHS rates the LATCH hardware Good with extra positions — two full sets of anchors close to the surface of the seat bight plus a tether-only center position, with reclining seatbacks for access — but this is a compact SUV: rear-facing infant seats are a tight fit, three-across is not realistic, and the center tether is a ceiling anchor.
4Space & ComfortOne of the NX's weakest categories.0.97F
The AZ20 NX is a strictly two-row, five-passenger compact luxury crossover; all eleven 2025 trims (NX 250, 350, 350h, 450h+) seat five, with no six- or seven-seat option anywhere in the range.
2025 is a carry-over body year for the second-generation NX — the changes were paint, USB-C ports and standard-equipment shuffling — so published front headroom is unchanged. The figure is modest for the class, and the volume NX 350h Premium's standard moonroof costs another 1.2 in.
41.0 in is near the bottom of the SUV normalization band and short for a compact luxury SUV — a consequence of a 105.9-in wheelbase and a wide center console that reviewers say eats into the driver's space.
Rear headroom is the NX's best interior dimension — the roofline stays tall over the second row, so rear passengers get more head clearance than the front seats do, and the moonroof costs only 0.4 in back here versus 1.2 in up front.
36.1 in lands mid-pack in the SUV band and trails segment benchmarks such as the Acura RDX at 38.0 in — reviewers of the 2025 car call the second row genuinely adult-usable but not class-leading, and tight behind a tall driver.
The 2025 NX has no third row on any grade and never has — Lexus buyers who need one are sent to the TX or RX L. Scored in the low band per the item's instruction to always score it for an SUV rather than omit it.
Cargo room behind the rear seats is the NX's clearest packaging weakness: 22.7 cu ft sits below the 25 cu ft floor of the SUV band, undercuts the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Acura RDX on a near-identical footprint, and is far short of the mechanically related RAV4's 37.5 cu ft.
46.9 cu ft seats-folded is small even by compact-luxury standards (RDX 58.9, Q5 54.5) and falls below the 55 cu ft floor of the SUV band, so the item bottoms out — the same result the space behind the seats produces.
Adequate rather than inventive, and 2025's one genuine improvement is a pair of USB-C ports added to the front console rather than more space. The dual-hinged center armrest bin, hidden cubby under the wireless charger and underfloor cargo storage are good ideas, but reviewers of the 2025 car single out thin small-item storage and a high cargo liftover.
A consistent strength on the volume NX 350h Premium: 8-way power front seats that are heated as standard on every 2025 grade and ventilated from Premium up, with contouring reviewers rate among the best in the segment for long drives. Held below 80 by the second row's flatter cushion and modest legroom.
The scored configuration is unambiguously comfort-tuned — for 2025 the F SPORT Handling grade with its adaptive dampers is offered only on the NX 350 and 450h+, so every NX 350h rides on the standard suspension and 18-inch wheels. Reviewers describe it as soft, composed and unbothered by broken pavement; body control rather than isolation is the trade-off.
Isolation is a genuine standout at a cruise: the AZ20's NVH work (Lexus claims roughly 15% less wind noise entering the cabin than the first-generation car) plus the hybrid's low-speed electric running put the NX near the top of the compact-luxury field. The deduction is powertrain noise under hard throttle, which is scored separately in cat 9.
The comfort kit is rich and mostly not trim-locked — heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate are standard on the cheapest 2025 NX, and the volume Premium grade adds ventilation, a power tilt/telescoping column, memory and a moonroof, with remote pre-conditioning through the Lexus app. Short of the top band because there is no separate rear climate zone, heated rear seats are an upper-grade item, and pre-conditioning depends on a Remote Connect subscription after the trial.
5Cost of OwnershipOne of the NX's weakest categories.1.91C-
For 2025 the four-cylinder NX 250 is still the entry point and holds the nameplate's floor price under $42,000 — the last model year before Lexus deleted it and pushed the 2026 base into the mid-$45Ks. That undercuts every direct compact-luxury rival's base car, though it is still a high absolute price measured against SUVs at large, which is what this band reflects.
The volume configuration for the scored hybrid class is the NX 350h in Premium trim — the grade that adds the heated/ventilated seats, power liftgate and larger-screen availability most buyers want without the Luxury or F SPORT premium. KBB identifies exactly that trim as the best-selling 2025 NX, at $48,645 as typically equipped.
The two industry estimates for this exact car disagree by a factor of four: KBB prices scheduled service at Lexus dealer labor rates and lands near $9,900, while CarEdge's owner-cost data has the NX 350h under $2,500 and Lexus among the cheapest luxury brands to maintain. A figure in the mid-$6,000s reflects genuinely low repair incidence carried by luxury-dealer service pricing, and matches the estimate used for the mechanically identical 2026 car.
The NX is the strongest value-holder in its segment by a wide margin, and the 2025 model year won its Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value category outright. Independent estimates cluster between 59% and 62% retained, so 60% is a defensible central figure; KBB's own residual model is markedly more pessimistic and sits well outside that cluster.
Lexus's 4-year/50,000-mile basic coverage is exactly the luxury-segment norm — the same terms BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Acura offer — so it neither helps nor hurts the NX against its direct rivals.
Six years/70,000 miles beats the German rivals' 4/50 but falls far short of the 10-year plans that anchor the top of this band. For the scored NX 350h the more meaningful number is the hybrid battery's 10-year/150,000-mile term, which covers the component buyers actually worry about.
Lexus covers only the first two scheduled services — one year or 10,000 miles — which is short next to BMW's 3-year/36,000-mile plan, but pairs it with four years of unlimited-mileage roadside assistance and multi-year Lexus Connected Services trials. Solid rather than generous, and scored to match the identical program on the 2026 NX and the Lexus UX.
$48,645 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (60% retained, or about $29,187) leaves about $19,458 in depreciation. Add the projected $6,400 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $25,858 in total.
6Reliability & QualityOne of the NX's strongest categories.3.75A
Both major predictors put the 2025 NX at the top of the compact luxury SUV field: Consumer Reports expects the 2025 NX Hybrid to be more reliable than the average new car, with the NX and NX Hybrid taking the top two reliability spots in the luxury compact crossover class and the NX placing seventh on CR's 10-most-reliable-vehicles list for 2025. Held below the high 80s because CR's own 2025 owner data flags recurring electronics and sealing complaints — intermittent infotainment screen failures with long replacement waits, early 12V battery defects, keyless door-actuator failures and door/trunk seal issues — and the NX Plug-in Hybrid variant is predicted only about average.
Lexus is the dependability benchmark on both contemporaneous studies: it ranked highest of ALL brands — not just premium — in the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study at 140 PP100 against a 202 PP100 industry average, a third consecutive win and far clear of Cadillac (169) and Porsche (186), and it also topped the 2025 Initial Quality Study overall. Kept just under a perfect read because Consumer Reports' 2025 brand reliability ranking places Lexus third behind Toyota and Subaru rather than first.
The 2025 model year carries more campaign activity than a typical NX year, though nothing systemic and nothing touching the powertrain or structure. Five NHTSA campaigns reach the 2025 NX 350h — second-row center seat belt webbing (25V059000, ~40,900 units), front head restraints that can be removed without the release button (24V482000, ~11,400), a Panoramic View Monitor software fault that freezes or blanks the reverse camera (25V744000, part of a 1.02M-vehicle multi-brand action), and a load-carrying-capacity label misprint (26V179000, ~8,200) — plus a tiny but serious loose front brake caliper/wheel hub bolt recall (24V911000, 70 units) on non-hybrid 2025 NX. The larger March 2026 rearview-camera recall covering 2022-2025 NX is limited to the non-hybrid NX250/NX350 and does not reach the hybrid. Marked down for volume and for two FMVSS non-compliances in restraint hardware, not for any durability defect.
The scored configuration is the NX 350h — Toyota's A25A-FXS 2.5L Atkinson four with front and rear motor-generators through a planetary eCVT, 240 combined hp, AWD standard for 2025 — which is the same hybrid system as the RAV4 Hybrid and Camry Hybrid and among the most proven high-mileage drivetrains sold in the US, with no meaningful failure mode at the traction battery, transaxle or rear eAxle. Not a perfect score only because owner reports on early 2025 builds include 12V auxiliary battery failures, and the nameplate's other powertrains are less settled (the NX 350's T24A-FTS 2.4L turbo dates only to 2022 and the 450h+ adds plug-in charging hardware that drew a DC-DC converter recall on the 2022 car).
Reviewers of the 2025 NX 350h Luxury consistently describe soft-touch surfaces across the regularly touched areas, black open-pore wood, leather or NuLuxe upholstery and well-damped switchgear, with the hard plastics that remain finished to look upscale — comfortably ahead of the Mercedes GLC and Audi Q5 read at the price. Kept out of the top band because rivals such as the Volvo XC60 and Genesis GV70 are still rated above it for outright material richness, and the front cabin reads narrow for a luxury compact SUV.
Japanese assembly at Miyawaka (TMK) and Tahara delivers the tight tolerances Lexus is known for, and reviewers of the 2025 car note neatly aligned stitching on seats, console, wheel and dash with no reported rattles. Initial-quality data is the strongest available: Lexus was the highest-ranking brand overall in the 2025 J.D. Power IQS at 166 PP100, with the NX among the top three in its premium SUV segment behind the Acura RDX. Trimmed from the high 80s because CR's 2025 owner reports include real assembly complaints — trunk seal separating from the frame within three months, door seals admitting dirt and moisture, rear liftgate misalignment and a loose rear-hatch switch.
Service satisfaction is essentially best-in-class apart from Porsche: Lexus finished second among premium brands in the J.D. Power 2025 Customer Service Index overall and second in premium SUV service at 902 against a 878 premium-segment average, part of a Porsche-Lexus 1-2 sweep across every premium category. Not higher because roughly 240-245 US Lexus stores is solid rather than dense national coverage for a mainstream-volume luxury SUV — rural owners travel considerably further for warranty work than a Toyota or Honda buyer would.
The NX shares its GA-K platform and its entire hybrid powertrain with the RAV4 Hybrid, so wear items and mechanical parts are cheap, universally stocked and serviceable by independent shops, and the cost data reflects it — RepairPal puts NX annual repair and maintenance around $690 against $859 for luxury compact SUVs, with half the segment's unscheduled shop visits and a 6% chance of a severe repair versus 10%. Trimmed for the genuinely luxury-priced, dealer-only items: the 14-inch multimedia unit, the electronic door latch assemblies and hybrid-specific high-voltage hardware.
7Technology & InfotainmentGrades above the middle of the scale.2.83B-
Lexus published the 2025 NX as a 9.8-inch-standard car with the 14-inch HD unit available, and the volume NX 350h Premium carries the small screen — the 14-inch panel arrives with the Luxury grade. For 2025 that is one of the smaller standard displays in the compact luxury SUV class.
Lexus Interface is quick and sensibly laid out — CarPro calls the 14-inch unit 'responsive,' Lexus kept physical volume and climate keys below the screen, and the always-visible shortcut bar is a real improvement. It stays mid-band because the volume trim's 9.8-inch panel is small for the money and because the steering-wheel touch-capacitive switches, which drive several menus, are the most criticized control on the car.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every 2025 NX grade and powertrain, with no wired-only entry tier and no subscription attached — a clean top-band result.
The 'Hey Lexus' Intelligent Assistant takes natural speech for audio, climate and navigation, and Cloud Navigation brings Google POI data and live traffic — genuinely competitive content. It is capped below the top band because Lexus explicitly sells both as subscription features, so after the Drive Connect trial lapses many owners fall back on phone projection.
A 10-speaker Lexus Premium Audio system is standard on the cheapest 2025 NX — better base content than most rivals — and the 17-speaker Mark Levinson surround system is available. Held short of the top of the band because reviewers are split on the optional systems: CarPro found the Luxury grade's 10-speaker Mark Levinson worth upgrading past, and The Drive called the premium setup 'mid.'
The 2025 NX's driver display is a 7-inch multi-information screen — crisp and configurable but small, and not offered in a larger size on any grade, where the X3, GLC and Q5 fit 12.3-inch-plus full-digital clusters as standard equipment.
The NX was the launch car for Lexus Interface and does receive pushed head-unit and cloud-map updates over Wi-Fi or cellular, so this is real OTA rather than a dealer-only affair — but the scope stops at infotainment and maps. There are no whole-vehicle, feature-adding pushes of the kind Tesla, Rivian and the Korean brands ship.
The Lexus app covers the core set — remote start and climate pre-conditioning, lock/unlock, vehicle locate, and charge scheduling on the 450h+ — and Digital Key turns a phone into a shareable key. It sits mid-band because Remote Connect and Digital Key both revert to paid subscriptions once the included trial ends, which is the difference between this and the top of the band.
2025 is the year Lexus fixed the NX's weakest connectivity point, adding two USB Type-C ports to the front console for six USB ports in total, with wireless charging available on every grade rather than gated to upper trims. It stops short of the top band because there is no household AC outlet anywhere in the range — not even on the plug-in hybrid.
2025 closes the last gap here: the Power Back Door became standard across the line this model year, joining Smart Key proximity entry and push-button start that were already universal, with remote start through the app and Digital Key for phone-as-key. The subscription attached to Remote Connect and Digital Key, and the hands-free kick sensor being an upper-grade item, are what hold it just below the top band.
The other 2025 standard-equipment win: Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking is now fitted to every grade, on top of the standard backup camera. The four-camera Panoramic View Monitor and the Advanced Park semi-automated system remain package or upper-grade items on the volume NX 350h Premium, which is what keeps this out of the top band.
A 10-inch color head-up display is offered and is well regarded, but it is not something the volume NX 350h Premium buyer gets — for 2025 it arrives with the Luxury package or standard on F SPORT Handling, a grade the hybrid cannot even be ordered in.
8Use-Case FitMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.10C
The anchor hardware itself is good — IIHS rates LATCH ease of use Good with extra positions, the lower anchors sit near the surface of the seat bight and the seatbacks recline for installation — but the packaging fights back. This is a five-seat compact with 22.7 cu ft behind the row, so a stroller plus a week's gear fills the bay, rear-facing infant seats are a squeeze, and the center top tether is a ceiling anchor that blocks the mirror when in use.
Nothing a family needs is trim-locked: Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Safe Exit Alert and — new for 2025 — Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking are all standard on the entry car. What holds 2025 out of the top band is the crash result rather than the equipment: this is an IIHS Top Safety Pick, not a TSP+, because the updated moderate overlap front test comes back Acceptable; IIHS notes the rear-belt revision that lifts the NX to all-Good arrives with the 2026 model year.
Four adults travel in a quiet, well-isolated cabin on seats reviewers rate as genuinely long-haul comfortable front and rear, and there are rear vents plus an armrest with cupholders. Packaging is the ceiling: 36.1 in of rear legroom under 38.1 in of headroom with the Premium grade's standard moonroof is adult-usable rather than roomy, and 22.7 cu ft will not swallow four people's luggage without folding a seat.
This is the NX 350h's best mission by a clear margin. It pulls away on electric torque in stop-and-go, the eCVT stays out of the way at part throttle, the front seats are among the best in the class, and full-speed-range adaptive cruise with Lane Tracing Assist is standard rather than optional. The only friction is the engine drone when you ask for everything, and driver aids that several 2025 reviewers found over-eager.
39 MPG combined is the best non-plug-in figure in the compact luxury SUV class and roughly 60% better than the NX's own turbo, and the hybrid hardware is RAV4-cheap to consume. It is kept out of the top band by the fuel itself: Lexus recommends 91 octane and EPA's own annual cost for the 2025 NX 350h is $2,000/yr, well above what a regular-fuel hybrid crossover costs to run, and luxury-brand insurance and parts pricing sit on top.
The 183.5-inch footprint slots into city spaces easily and reviewers of the 2025 car call it easy to park, and Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking became standard this model year. Two things cap it: a 38.0-ft turning circle is wide for a compact crossover, and thick rear pillars with shallow glass make the over-the-shoulder view poor — the Panoramic View Monitor and Advanced Park that would fix that are options on the volume NX 350h Premium, not standard kit.
A 2,000-lb tow rating is the floor of the luxury compact SUV class — less than half the Q5's or X3's 4,400 lb — and because the GA-K unibody rather than the engine sets it, every 2025 powertrain including the 275-hp turbo carries the same number, so there is no way to option out of it. With 22.7 cu ft of cargo, no bed and roughly 825 lb of payload, the NX tops out at a small utility trailer.
The hardware underneath is as proven as work machinery gets — the GA-K platform and the THS power-split hybrid are shared with the RAV4 and have a long service record, and Lexus topped the 2025 J.D. Power dependability study outright. Everything above that hardware points the other way: NuLuxe or leather only, no rubber-floor or vinyl-seat configuration, and no fleet presence to build a work reputation on.
Onboard power stops at 12V and USB — Lexus notably did not carry the RAV4 Prime's 1,500-watt AC outlet over to the 450h+, so there is nothing to run a tool from on any 2025 NX. A hitch exists only as an accessory requiring the factory tow-prep package ordered up front, roof rails are an available rather than standard item, and every surface is carpet or NuLuxe rather than anything washable.
A genuine mile-eater: EPA publishes 566 miles of range for the 2025 NX 350h AWD, the cabin was engineered for roughly 15% less wind noise than the first-generation car, and reviewers single out the front seats for fatigue resistance on long drives. It falls short of the top band only on driver assistance — Lane Tracing Assist centers competently but there is no hands-free highway mode on any 2025 NX.
Trailheads, gravel and snow are well within reach and for 2025 the scored hybrid cannot be bought without all-wheel drive — the front-drive NX 350h did not arrive until 2026 — with around 8.1 in of ground clearance and a Trail drive mode for loose surfaces. Past that it stops: no skid plates, no locking differentials, no US Overtrail grade, optional roof rails carrying only about 165 lb, and a 2,000-lb limit that rules out most trailered toys.
Lexus made the most of a small bay — a well-shaped cargo area with under-floor storage, a 60/40 folding rear seat and a cargo cover reviewers rate among the segment's best for usability — but the bay is small, and 2025 reviewers add a second complaint: the liftover height is high enough to make loading bulky gear a chore. 22.7 / 46.9 cu ft is far short of the mechanically related RAV4's 37.5 / 69.8.
9Driving ExperienceMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.53C+
2025 is a carry-over chassis year for the AZ20 NX, and the GA-K platform delivers secure, predictable cornering that reviewers describe as direct and composed. It is held to the middle of the band because the scored NX 350h has no way to sharpen it — for 2025 the F SPORT Handling grade with its Adaptive Variable Suspension and performance dampers is offered only on the NX 350 and NX 450h+, so every hybrid rides on the soft comfort tune and gives ground to an X3 or RDX for outright agility.
The variable-ratio rack fitted to everything except the plug-in hybrid makes the NX quick to place around town and gives a genuinely responsive initial turn-in, but the electric assist filters out road texture and reviewers note the promise of that first impression is not kept when you lean on it — accurate rather than communicative.
Sources split on the hybrid's brakes, which is why this lands mid-band rather than higher or lower. Reviewers of the 2025 NX 350h specifically praise a pedal with 'normal feel unlike the squishiness found on some hybrids,' while Consumer Reports' testing of this generation finds the hybrid stops roughly ten feet longer than the gas NX 350 with a less linear pedal. The regen-to-friction blend works well in normal driving and gets vaguer the harder you use it.
The 240-hp hybrid pulls away on electric torque and hands off to the 2.5L Atkinson four without drama — reviewers describe the eCVT as operating smoothly in the background and the system as adequate for real-world passing at a claimed 7.2 sec to 60. Points come off for the familiar power-split trait: at full throttle the revs flare out of step with road speed, and the engine restart is audible.
At a cruise the NX is close to silent and the cabin is well isolated, but ask the 350h for full power and the eCVT pins the four-cylinder at high revs and the resulting drone is the single most consistent complaint in 2025 reviews — out of keeping with what the badge promises. No vibration issues through the controls.
Exactly mid-band for a compact SUV on a 105.9-in wheelbase — tighter than the larger RX but wide enough that owners of this generation raise it as a complaint, and noticeably worse than the subcompact UX. Lexus.com's specification page is a JavaScript app that returned no spec table to either WebFetch or curl, so the figure comes from KBB's trim table rather than the manufacturer directly.
The 'tazuna' cockpit does what it claims — gauges and the angled screen sit inside the driver's forward sightline, Lexus kept real hard keys for volume and climate, and the 8-way power seat with a power column on the Premium grade suits a wide range of drivers. It loses ground on the controls that are not physical: the steering-wheel capacitive switches demand you look away from the road, the electronic door releases confuse first-timers, and high door panels and thick rear pillars limit the over-the-shoulder view.
Pleasant and polished rather than engaging, and for 2025 the hybrid buyer has no route to anything sharper — the adaptive-damper F SPORT Handling grade is gas and PHEV only this model year. Reviewers land in the same place every time: the NX 350h is a refined, comfortable cruiser that drives like a Lexus, which is a compliment but not an enthusiast recommendation.
10Value & Market PositionGrades above the middle of the scale.3.24B+
2025 is the NX's strongest value year of the generation: the entry NX 250 still holds the price at $41,765 including destination — $4,300 to $8,900 below every direct rival's base car — and Lexus made Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, Intuitive Parking Assist with automatic braking, rain-sensing wipers and a power back door standard across the whole lineup without a material price increase. It stops short of the top band because the 14-inch touchscreen, Mark Levinson audio, leather and head-up display are still Premium/Luxury-grade items.
The cheapest entry in the class, a 39-mpg hybrid at the volume trim, and the segment's best retained value make a strong money argument — the NX won its Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value category for 2025 and Lexus took the luxury-brand title. What keeps it out of the top band is that the money buys neither dynamics nor space: reviewers consistently place its handling and rear-seat/cargo room behind the X3, GV70 and RDX, and Edmunds rates the 2025 car only 6.8/10.
2025 is the broadest the second-generation NX ever gets: four powertrains — naturally aspirated NX 250, turbocharged NX 350, hybrid NX 350h and plug-in NX 450h+ — across Standard, Premium, Luxury and F SPORT Handling grades, with front- or all-wheel drive on the 250, spanning roughly $42,000 to $64,000. Both ends are covered, and the entry four-cylinder that disappears for 2026 is still here to anchor the bottom.
The NX set a nameplate record of 76,836 US sales in calendar 2025, up 3.2% year over year, with best-ever years for both the hybrid and plug-in variants — making it the second-best-selling Lexus behind the RX and a leader of the compact luxury SUV class. Four model years into the generation the demand curve was still climbing.
Lexus finished 2025 with record US sales of 370,260 units (+7.1%) and holds the strongest residual reputation of any luxury marque, winning Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value luxury brand title alongside the NX's own segment win. It sits below the aspirational top band because Lexus trades on dependability and refinement rather than the performance or design halo BMW, Porsche and Genesis bring to this segment.
There is some money on the table — subvented APR offers in the 3.99%/60-month range and advertised NX leases in the high-$400s — but this is a record-selling class leader from a brand that rarely discounts, so transaction prices sit close to sticker. The one genuinely large incentive of the 2025 model year, the $7,500 federal credit, applied to the 450h+ plug-in rather than the hybrid scored here, and expired September 30, 2025.
The second-generation AZ20 NX arrived for 2022 on the GA-K platform, making 2025 its fourth model year — mid-cycle, with current-generation hardware but no facelift yet, and the first-generation car was refreshed at exactly this point in its run. The 2025 changes are content and color rather than new engineering, so a buyer should expect a refresh soon without facing an imminent replacement.
Reviewers respect the NX without ever handing it a class win: Edmunds rates the 2025 car 6.8/10, KBB gives it 4.5/5 and names it a best luxury compact SUV, and it carries an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK plus the KBB Best Resale Value segment award. Against that, U.S. News places it mid-to-low in the luxury compact SUV rankings, the dynamics critique is universal, and there is no 10Best or NACTOY recognition — a solid recommendation rather than a comparison-test winner.
