The verdict

A mixed-report compact luxury sedan, strong on technology and held back by ownership.

The 2025 C-Class gives you an S-Class-style cabin, IIHS Top Safety Pick+ crash protection and one of the quietest rides in the compact luxury class. Owning one is expensive, though. It needs premium fuel (about $2,950 a year for the C 300 4MATIC), costs roughly $9,000 in maintenance over five years with none of it included, and keeps only about 40% of its value after five years. Its trunk is a small 12.6 cu ft. Buy it for the cabin and the badge, negotiate hard (KBB's Fair Price is about $5,000 under MSRP), and budget for running costs.

#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The 2025 C300 (fourth model year of the W206 generation) uses a 2.0L turbo I4 with 48V EQ Boost mild-hybrid rated at 255 hp. For 2025 the AMG C43 gained 14 hp to 416 hp; the C63 S E Performance PHEV tops the range at 671 hp.

Torque
295 lb-ft (C300); AMG C43 369 lb-ft, AMG C63 S E Performance 752 lb-ft
53/100
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Peak torque of the C300's turbo-four with EQ Boost is 295 lb-ft; the C43 is unchanged at 369 lb-ft and the C63 S E Performance produces 752 lb-ft system torque.

0–60 mph time
6.0 s (C300, manufacturer); AMG C43 4.3 s, AMG C63 S E Performance ~3.3 s
54/100
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Mercedes quotes roughly 6.0 s 0-60 for the C300; some dealer and third-party sources cite 5.7-5.9 s, so the manufacturer-quoted figure is used. AMG variants drop to 4.3 s (C43) and ~3.3 s (C63 S E Performance).

Powertrain refinement72
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The integrated starter-generator of the 48V mild-hybrid smooths stop-start restarts and fills low-rpm torque, making the C300 smooth around town, but the four-cylinder sounds strained near redline and shows slight off-boost lag versus six-cylinder rivals.

Transmission behavior74
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic shifts smoothly and unobtrusively in normal driving and holds gears sensibly in Sport, with occasional hesitation on kickdown; AMG models get the sharper SpeedShift MCT.

AWD/4WD availability78
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

4MATIC all-wheel drive is a $2,000 option on the C300 (the volume configuration) and standard on AMG C43 and C63 S E Performance, whose 4MATIC+ fully variable systems add sophistication; no low range, as expected for a sedan.

Powertrain lineup breadth75
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Three distinct powertrains in 2025: C300 turbo-four mild hybrid (RWD or AWD), AMG C43 electrically assisted-turbo four, and the AMG C63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid; no efficiency-oriented PHEV (C 300e is not sold in the US), diesel or EV.

NHTSA overall rating
Not rated by NHTSA (W206 generation never tested)
0/100
#8 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

NHTSA has never published an overall crash rating for the W206 C-Class (2022+), and the 2025 model shows N/A across frontal and side ratings. Per the framework definition, 0 means never rated by NHTSA; the IIHS results in 3.1.2 carry the crashworthiness picture.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness90
#1 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The 2025 C-Class earned the IIHS 2025 Top Safety Pick+, the toughest criteria yet, with Good ratings in the driver and passenger small overlap, updated moderate overlap (rear-passenger protection), and updated side tests. Reported as the only 2025 luxury car to earn TSP+.

Standard ADAS suite breadth68
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Every 2025 C 300 comes standard with Active Brake Assist (AEB with pedestrian detection), Blind Spot Assist, rear automatic braking, Attention Assist and exit warning. But Distronic adaptive cruise, Active Steering Assist, lane keeping assist and Active Lane Change Assist are only in the optional Driver Assistance Package, which is weak for a luxury car at this price.

Automatic emergency braking performance74
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

IIHS rates the standard Active Brake Assist Acceptable in pedestrian front crash prevention, and the optional system with Cross-Traffic Function Good. So the volume trim's standard AEB is solid but not top-tier, and the best result costs extra.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage76
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Blind Spot Assist with exit warning and rear automatic braking are standard. Active Blind Spot Assist (with steering/brake intervention) and rear cross-traffic alert come with the optional Driver Assistance / Parking packages.

Lane keeping & centering74
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

When optioned, Active Steering Assist centers the car smoothly and is among the more refined systems in the class. But IIHS lists even lane departure warning/prevention as optional, so a base C 300 has little lane assistance.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist80
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Active Distance Assist Distronic is a full-range stop-and-go system with route-based speed adaptation and integrated Active Steering Assist and Lane Change Assist, and reviewers find it smooth and natural. It is marked down only because it is optional on the volume trim.

Hands-free driving availability25
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

No hands-free driving is offered on the 2025 C-Class. Mercedes' Drive Pilot (Level 3) is limited to the S-Class and EQS in California and Nevada, and the C-Class's Driver Assistance Package requires hands on the wheel.

Headlight performance82
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The standard LED projector headlights, fitted to the volume trim, are rated Good by IIHS. The optional Digital Light curve-adaptive setup rates Acceptable. Good lights as standard is a strong result.

Outward visibility72
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The conventional three-box sedan shape gives reasonable forward and side sightlines, but the high beltline and thick C-pillars limit rear-quarter views. The 360-degree camera is optional (Parking Package) rather than standard on the C 300.

Child-seat (LATCH) usability78
#1 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

IIHS rates the 2025 C-Class LATCH hardware Good for ease of use. The compact rear seat means fitting three seats across is impractical, but two seats go in easily.

Reasonable rear headroom despite the fastback-leaning roofline.

Rear legroom

#1 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Rear legroom is typical of the compact luxury class — fine for kids, snug for tall adults behind tall drivers.

Cargo/trunk volume
12.6 cu ft
26/100
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Trunk is on the small side of the sedan band, similar to rivals like the 3 Series (~13 cu ft).

In-cabin storage & clever solutions64
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Standard 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat and wireless charging tray are useful, but the console and door bins are modest and there are no standout storage solutions.

Seat comfort76
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Front seats are supportive and widely praised with power adjustment standard; the rear bench is comfortable but tight for longer adult trips.

Ride quality70
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Composed and smooth on the standard suspension, but the common AMG Line/sport setup with low-profile tires is busier than many small luxury rivals.

Cabin quietness84
#1 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Cabin isolation is the C-Class's standout comfort trait, with reviewers calling it exceptionally quiet at highway speed.

Climate & comfort features72
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Heated front seats, dual-zone climate and ambient lighting are standard; ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and heated rear seats require option packages.

5Cost of OwnershipThe C-Class's lowest-graded category.0.00F
Base MSRP
$49,600 (2025 C 300 RWD, incl. $1,150 destination); AMG C43 and C63 S E Performance well above
16/100
#8 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The 2025 C 300 sedan (fourth model year of the W206 generation) starts at $48,450 before destination; KBB's $49,600 figure includes the $1,150 destination charge. That sits near the top of the sedan band, as expected for a compact luxury car.

Volume-Trim Price
$51,600 (C 300 4MATIC, incl. destination); typically-equipped units mid-$50Ks
19/100
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The C 300 4MATIC is the volume configuration in most US markets, costing $2,000 more than the RWD car. Dealer stock usually carries option packages that push transaction prices into the mid-$50Ks.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
~$9,000 over 5 years (estimates range ~$6,800–12,600)
0/100
#10 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

There is no complimentary maintenance, and Mercedes A/B service pricing is high. KBB projects $10,964 for maintenance plus $1,623 for repairs over five years, while another industry estimate puts maintenance at $6,831. A midpoint near $9,000 is used.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
~40% retained after 5 years (KBB 36%, Edmunds-implied ~45%)
17/100
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Entry-luxury sedans depreciate steeply. KBB projects a $17,934 residual on a $49,600 C 300 (36%), and Edmunds projects about $27,208 of 5-year depreciation (roughly 45% retained). A blended ~40% is used.

Basic warranty
4 yr / 50,000 mi (bumper-to-bumper)
50/100
#1 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The Mercedes-Benz New Vehicle Limited Warranty runs 48 months or 50,000 miles, which is typical for luxury brands. It trails Genesis's 5-year coverage.

Powertrain warranty
4 yr / 50,000 mi (included in basic warranty; no longer powertrain term)
0/100
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Powertrain coverage is part of the 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty, with no separate longer term. That falls below the 5-year floor of the sedan band.

Complimentary maintenance & perks40
#8 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

No scheduled maintenance is included; buyers must buy Prepaid Maintenance separately. Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance for the warranty term and a Mercedes me connect trial are included. That is weaker than BMW, Volvo and Genesis, which bundle scheduled service.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$39,960 (≈$30,960 depreciation + $9,000 maintenance)
19/100
#8 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

$51,600 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (40% retained, or about $20,640) leaves about $30,960 in depreciation. Add the projected $9,000 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $39,960 in total.

6Reliability & QualityMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.51C+
Predicted reliability56
#9 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Consumer Reports expects about average reliability for the 2025 C-Class, based on the Mercedes-Benz brand score and limited model data. That is better than its well-below-average 2024 prediction, but earlier W206 years' problems with in-car electronics and power equipment keep it below the compact-luxury median.

Brand reliability track record60
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Mercedes-Benz has been below the industry average in J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study for several years and sits in the lower half of Consumer Reports' brand rankings. It is not bottom-tier like Alfa Romeo or Land Rover, but it trails Lexus and Toyota by a wide margin.

Recall & TSB history70
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Recall activity for the 2025 model year is light: an infotainment control-unit reset campaign and a driver seat-belt cover campaign affecting very few units. The W206 generation has had heavier recalls, including the 2021-2024 fuel pump and 2023-2024 80-amp fuse campaigns, but neither reached 2025 production.

Powertrain durability reputation68
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The C 300 uses the M254 2.0L turbo four with a 48V integrated starter-generator, now in its fourth year. We found no systemic failure pattern, but high-mileage data is limited and the mild-hybrid electrics add complexity. The 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic has a solid, long-established record.

Interior material quality90
#1 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The cabin takes its design and materials from the S-Class, with open-pore wood, metal trim, extensive ambient lighting and an 11.9-inch portrait MBUX screen. Reviewers regularly rank it among the richest interiors in the compact-luxury class.

Fit & finish82
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Assembly is tight and consistent, and reviewers praise the tactile quality. Owner complaints center on infotainment and electronics glitches, including the 2025 infotainment-reset recall, rather than rattles or panel gaps, which keeps it below the top of the band.

Dealer & service network80
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Mercedes-Benz has about 380 US dealers covering all 50 states, one of the densest luxury service networks. Service satisfaction is mid-pack among luxury brands.

Parts availability & repair cost50
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Parts are easy to get but expensive, and most come through dealers. Out-of-warranty repairs to the 48V system and electronics can be costly, so repair costs run well above mainstream sedans.

7Technology & InfotainmentThe C-Class's best-graded category.3.14B
Touchscreen size
11.9 in portrait (standard on all trims)
58/100
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

An 11.9-inch portrait MBUX touchscreen is standard across the 2025 lineup; no larger screen is offered.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness72
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

MBUX is fast and sharp, but climate controls live on the touchscreen and the haptic steering-wheel touchpads draw consistent complaints.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto90
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every 2025 trim.

Voice control & native navigation78
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

'Hey Mercedes' natural-language voice control is among the better native assistants; MBUX navigation with augmented-reality guidance is available in option packages.

Audio system quality80
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Base audio is decent; the optional Burmester 3D surround system is a genuine premium upgrade.

Digital instrument cluster85
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

A crisp, configurable 12.3-inch fully digital cluster is standard.

OTA update capability70
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

MBUX receives over-the-air software and map updates, but the 2025 car predates MB.OS whole-vehicle OTA.

Companion app & remote functions74
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The Mercedes me app covers remote lock, locate and remote start/climate, but many functions sit behind tiered subscriptions after the trial period.

Charging ports & device power74
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

USB-C ports are provided front and rear and wireless charging is standard; there is no household AC outlet.

Keyless & remote access80
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Push-button start and remote start via app are standard; full KEYLESS-GO proximity entry and hands-free trunk come with packages or upper trims.

Camera & parking aids76
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Rear camera is standard, and the surround-view camera plus parking sensors come with the Exclusive trim and above.

Head-up display availability66
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

A head-up display is offered, but only on the top Pinnacle trim.

8Use-Case FitOne of the C-Class's weakest categories.1.21D
Kid & car-seat practicality64
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

LATCH hardware is easy to use, but 36 inches of rear legroom and a 12.6 cu ft trunk make rear-facing seats and strollers a squeeze.

Family safety package80
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Top Safety Pick+ credentials with standard AEB and blind-spot detection; adaptive cruise and lane centering cost extra through the Driver Assistance Package.

Family road-trip comfort62
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

A very quiet cabin and good front seats help on long drives, but the rear seat is compact, rear amenities are thin unless optioned, and the trunk is small for a family's luggage.

Daily driving ease76
#3 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The mild-hybrid 2.0T and 9-speed are smooth in traffic and the cabin is calm; the touch-only climate controls and a spongy brake pedal are minor annoyances.

Commuting cost efficiency36
#10 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

It is reasonably economical for a luxury sedan, but premium fuel and luxury-brand maintenance make it an expensive car to commute in.

Parking & maneuverability74
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

A 187-inch footprint and a turning circle of about 36 ft make it easy to place in the city; a 360 camera is available on mid and upper trims.

Work capability8
#9 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

It has no US tow rating and only a 12.6 cu ft trunk, so it is not a work vehicle.

Durability for work duty20
#10 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

This is a luxury-oriented sedan with low-profile tires and a delicate interior, and it has no fleet or work reputation.

Jobsite & upfit practicality8
#9 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

There is no AC outlet, factory hitch or roof-rack/upfit ecosystem.

Long-distance comfort & range76
#2 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

It is a quiet, refined highway cruiser with 470–505 miles of EPA range; Level 2 driving assistance requires the optional Driver Assistance Package.

Outdoor & adventure capability24
#10 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

4MATIC AWD helps on gravel and in snow, but low ground clearance (3.8 in quoted), no tow rating and no factory roof rails keep it pavement-bound.

Gear & luggage flexibility32
#9 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

A split-folding rear seat adds some flexibility, but the 12.6 cu ft trunk and lack of a hitch or roof rails limit bulky gear.

9Driving ExperienceOne of the C-Class's strongest categories.2.81B-
Handling & agility74
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

It feels tight and controlled through turns, especially with the AMG Line sport suspension, though the BMW 3 Series remains the sharper driver's car.

Steering feel70
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Steering is precise and nicely weighted but offers little feedback, which is typical of the W206.

Braking confidence68
#10 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Stopping power is adequate, but a spongy pedal is a commonly cited flaw in the mild-hybrid C 300.

Powertrain smoothness & response76
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The 48V integrated starter-generator smooths stop/start and adds low-end torque, and reviewers call the powertrain polished; the 9-speed occasionally hesitates on downshifts.

Drivetrain noise & vibration68
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

It is quiet and well isolated when cruising, but the 2.0L four sounds coarse when worked hard.

Turning circle
36.3 ft (C 300 sedan)
62/100
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

A tight turning circle for a rear-drive-based compact luxury sedan.

Driving position & ergonomics74
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The seats and wheel adjust well and are comfortable, but touchscreen-only climate controls and haptic steering-wheel pads hurt ergonomics.

Fun-to-drive factor70
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The C 300 is pleasant and composed but leans toward luxury over engagement; the AMG C 43 (416 hp for 2025) is the enthusiast pick.

10Value & Market PositionOne of the C-Class's strongest categories.2.81B-
Standard equipment generosity74
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The 2025 C 300 comes standard with an 11.9-in MBUX touchscreen, a 12.3-in digital cluster, a fingerprint reader, leather seats, heated seats and steering wheel, LED headlights, wireless charging, AEB and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise, the Burmester audio, the head-up display and ventilated seats are still in option packages, so equipment is competitive with the 330i and A4 but short of the Genesis G70's loaded base car.

Feature value per dollar66
#8 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

At $49,600–$51,600 the 255-hp C 300 is priced at the top of the four-cylinder compact luxury class. The Genesis G70 and Acura Integra Type S offer more power or content for less money, and options quickly take the price into the mid-$50Ks. Heavy dealer discounting (KBB Fair Price about $5,000 under MSRP) softens the real transaction price.

Trim & configuration breadth70
#6 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The lineup is the C 300 (RWD or 4MATIC), the AMG C43 4MATIC (416 hp for 2025) and the AMG C63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid, plus a wide range of option packages. The ladder is well spaced but has no efficiency-focused PHEV or cheaper entry trim, so it is narrower than the BMW 3 Series range.

Sales popularity & market acceptance52
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

US C-Class sales fell from 35,590 in 2024 to 18,684 in 2025, a drop of about 47%. It is still one of the higher-volume compact luxury sedans, but the trajectory is sharply downward as the segment shrinks and buyers wait for the next-generation car.

Brand desirability & image90
#1 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Mercedes-Benz is a top-tier aspirational luxury brand, and the C-Class is its core sedan entry point. Weak C-Class resale and middling owner satisfaction (KBB consumer rating 3.1/5) take a little off the halo.

Deals & incentive availability78
#7 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Falling demand has produced substantial deals. KBB's Fair Price runs about $5,000 below MSRP, subvented leases with dealer cash of about $2,500 have been common, and low-APR financing has been offered on loaner units. Buyers can negotiate meaningful discounts.

Model freshness62
#5 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

The W206 generation launched for the 2022 model year, so 2025 is its fourth year and is mid-cycle. Changes for 2025 were minor (for example, the C43 gained 14 hp). An all-new C-Class (the W520 EV) was unveiled in 2026, so the platform is aging.

Critical reception & awards74
#4 of 10 Compact Luxury CarsCompare all →

Reviews are generally positive and praise the tech, refinement and styling, but reviewers criticize the fiddly touch controls and a less engaging drive than the BMW 3 Series. It rarely wins comparison tests and ranks mid-pack in KBB's luxury compact list, though it earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
