The verdict

A mixed-report compact suv, strong on efficiency and held back by performance.

The 2025 RAV4 Hybrid is the safe, sensible pick of the compact-SUV class: standard AWD, an EPA-rated 39 MPG combined on regular gas, Toyota's reputation for reliability, and the best resale value in the segment. The trade-offs come from its age. 2025 is the last year of a generation launched for 2019, so the engine drones when you push it, the cabin is plain and noisy, and the 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty is the shortest in the class. Buy it for low running costs and peace of mind. Shoppers who want refinement or a modern interior should look at the redesigned 2026 model or a rival.

Detailed scoring by subject

1Performance & PowertrainThe RAV4's lowest-graded category.0.71F
Horsepower
219 hp net combined (XLE AWD hybrid — volume trim; all 2025 hybrids are AWD); 203 hp gas 2.5L; 302 hp Plug-in Hybrid (model-range max)
17/100
#9 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

2025 is the final year of the fifth-generation XA50 (carry-over year ahead of the 2026 sixth-gen), so the hybrid keeps its 219 hp net system output. Modest against the SUV band, which spans to 550 hp.

Torque
163 lb-ft engine peak (2.5L A25A-FXS Atkinson); Toyota publishes no net combined torque — front and rear electric motors add instant torque off the line
9/100
#24 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota rates only the 2.5L hybrid engine's 163 lb-ft; no system torque is published. Real launch torque is higher thanks to the two electric motors, so this figure understates low-speed shove.

0–60 mph time
~7.4 s (hybrid AWD; instrumented tests 7.1–7.8 s); gas 2.5L ~8.0 s; Plug-in Hybrid ~5.7 s
35/100
#10 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Instrumented tests of the XA50 hybrid range from 7.1 s (Car and Driver) to 7.8 s (Edmunds, 2025 test car); the midpoint represents the volume XLE hybrid. Quicker than the gas RAV4 and most non-turbo compact rivals.

Powertrain refinement68
#9 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Hybrid transitions around town are smooth and the motors fill in low-speed response well, but the 2.5L four is noisy and coarse when pushed, droning loudly under hard acceleration — a long-running complaint against the XA50.

Transmission behavior74
#9 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The planetary eCVT never hunts and is seamless in normal driving, but holds high revs with a rubber-band feel when floored. Typical of Toyota's hybrid system; better than the gas model's 8-speed automatic, which reviewers fault for busy shifting.

Max towing capacity
1,750 lbs (all hybrid trims, properly equipped); gas Adventure/TRD Off-Road 3,500 lbs; gas FWD/AWD 1,500 lbs; Plug-in Hybrid 2,500 lbs
11/100
#14 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Every 2025 RAV4 Hybrid is rated at 1,750 lbs, which is the figure for the scored hybrid powertrain. The 3,500-lb rating belongs only to gas Adventure/TRD Off-Road trims.

AWD/4WD availability80
#8 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

AWD is standard on every 2025 hybrid (electronic on-demand E-Four with a dedicated rear motor) and on the Plug-in Hybrid, and optional on gas trims; gas Adventure/TRD Off-Road add Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD with rear driveline disconnect. Multi-Terrain Select is offered, but there is no low range or locker.

Off-road capability58
#5 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The hybrid has 8.1 in of clearance and the Woodland Edition adds all-terrain tires and a raised roof rack; the gas TRD Off-Road brings TRD-tuned suspension and 8.6 in. That is light-duty capability for gravel and snow, with no low range, lockers or real skid plates.

Powertrain lineup breadth76
#4 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

In its final XA50 year the RAV4 still offers three distinct powertrains: 203-hp gas (FWD or AWD), 219-hp hybrid AWD and 302-hp Plug-in Hybrid with about 42 miles of EV range. There is no full EV or turbo option.

2Efficiency & RangeThe RAV4's best-graded category.4.00A+
3SafetyMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.64C+
NHTSA overall rating
5 stars overall (4★ frontal, 5★ side, 4★ rollover)
100/100
#1 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The 2025 RAV4 (final XA50 model year) holds a 5-star NHTSA overall rating, with a 4-star frontal crash rating and a 4-star rollover rating.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness52
#18 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

There is no 2025 IIHS award. Small overlap and whiplash are Good, but the updated moderate overlap test is Marginal because of the rear-passenger restraints, and the updated side test is only Acceptable. The aging XA50 structure falls short of the 2025 TSP criteria that newer rivals meet.

Standard ADAS suite breadth72
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard on every trim: AEB with pedestrian/cyclist detection, full-speed dynamic radar cruise, lane departure warning with steering assist, Lane Tracing Assist, road sign recognition and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard from XLE (the hybrid volume trim) but only optional on the base LE.

Automatic emergency braking performance66
#12 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

In the tougher IIHS vehicle-to-vehicle 2.0 test, the standard TSS 2.5 system rates only Acceptable. Pedestrian AEB rates Good, so the result is solid but not top tier.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage62
#20 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

BSM and RCTA are standard from the XLE up but optional on the LE. Both are alert-only: there is no active blind-spot steering intervention and no safe-exit assist. Rear auto braking (parking support brake) is available only on upper trims.

Lane keeping & centering64
#15 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Lane Tracing Assist is standard on every trim and does center the vehicle. The quality judgement (functional, short of the best Hyundai/Honda systems) is general knowledge of the XA50 and was not checked against a review in this run.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist66
#16 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is standard and works with Lane Tracing Assist. The 'capable but unrefined' judgement is general knowledge, not checked against a review in this run.

Hands-free driving availability5
#20 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The 2025 RAV4 offers no hands-free driving system on any trim; the standard ADAS suite is TSS 2.5 only.

Headlight performance85
#5 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

IIHS rates the headlights Good on every trim, and automatic high beams are standard.

Outward visibility68
#12 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Upright compact-SUV greenhouse with average visibility and thick rear pillars; a 360-degree camera on upper trims only. All of this is from general knowledge of the XA50 and was not sourced in this run.

Child-seat (LATCH) usability82
#6 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

IIHS rates LATCH ease of use Good and notes extra LATCH positions. Wide rear doors and a roomy rear seat make installing car seats easy for the class.

4Space & ComfortOne of the RAV4's weakest categories.1.14D
Seating capacity
5 seats (all trims: gas, hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid)
25/100
#2 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

2025 is the final model year of the fifth-generation XA50 RAV4, a strictly two-row compact SUV. Every trim seats five and none offers a third row.

Front headroom
39.5 in without moonroof (volume XLE Hybrid); 37.7 in with moonroof (XLE Premium and up)
50/100
#13 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The volume XLE Hybrid has no moonroof, so it gets the full 39.5 in. Moonroof trims drop to 37.7 in, which is tight for tall drivers.

Front legroom
41.0 in
22/100
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

41.0 in of front legroom is adequate, but it sits at the low end of the compact-SUV band.

Rear headroom
39.5 in
88/100
#2 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The boxy roofline gives 39.5 in of second-row headroom, near the top of the compact-SUV band.

Rear legroom
37.8 in
65/100
#21 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

37.8 in of rear legroom fits adults comfortably, though the CR-V (about 41 in) is roomier.

Third-row usability5
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

No 2025 RAV4 has a third row; it is a five-seat, two-row SUV. Per the framework rule it is scored low rather than omitted.

Cargo/trunk volume
37.5 cu ft behind 2nd row (hybrid); 37.6 cu ft gas; 33.5 cu ft Plug-in Hybrid
23/100
#4 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

37.5 cu ft behind the rear seat is competitive among compact SUVs but scores low against an SUV band that includes three-row models.

Max cargo volume
69.8 cu ft with rear seats folded
33/100
#5 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

69.8 cu ft with the 60/40 seat folded is about average for the compact class, with a nearly flat load floor.

In-cabin storage & clever solutions66
#9 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Everyday storage is good: a dash-width rubberized shelf, a decent console bin and door pockets, a reversible cargo floor on some grades, and USB-C ports in both rows. Nothing about it is a standout innovation.

Seat comfort62
#18 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The front seats are supportive, and the XLE adds a power driver's seat. Reviewers note firm, somewhat flat cushions on long drives. The reclining rear bench is comfortable for two adults.

Ride quality60
#20 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The ride is composed on the highway but firmer and busier than the CR-V's over broken pavement. The 2025 carry-over year leaves the XA50 suspension unchanged.

Cabin quietness52
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Road and wind noise are noticeable at highway speed, and the 2.5L hybrid engine drones under hard acceleration. EV creep keeps it quiet in town, but it is below the quietest in the class.

Climate & comfort features60
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Dual-zone automatic climate is standard. Heated front seats are optional on the volume XLE and standard from XSE. Ventilated front seats and a heated wheel are Limited-only, so key comfort features cluster on upper trims.

5Cost of OwnershipOne of the RAV4's strongest categories.2.77B-
Base MSRP
$33,295 (Hybrid LE AWD, incl. $1,395 destination); gas LE FWD from $30,245
79/100
#15 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

This scorecard covers the hybrid. The cheapest 2025 RAV4 Hybrid is the LE, which comes standard with AWD and costs $31,900 before the $1,395 destination charge. The gas LE FWD opens the wider lineup about $3,000 lower. Toyota raised prices during the model year, and later listings show the Hybrid LE at $32,850 before destination.

Volume-Trim Price
$37,695 (Hybrid XLE Premium AWD, incl. destination); hybrid range $33,295–$41,600
74/100
#14 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The XLE Premium is the volume hybrid trim, since it adds the power liftgate, SofTex upholstery and moonroof that the LE and XLE lack. Every 2025 hybrid has AWD as standard, so no drivetrain option is added on top. Later-year price increases raised this trim to about $37,250 before destination.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
~$5,000 over 5 yr (estimates range ~$3,900–$6,500)
69/100
#13 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Published estimates differ widely. CarEdge projects roughly $3,900 in maintenance and repairs over five years, while Edmunds' True Cost to Own runs higher at about $6,500, so a blended ~$5,000 is used. Either way, upkeep is low for the class: the hybrid system has a long record of durability, and ToyotaCare covers the first two years of scheduled service.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
~68% of MSRP retained after 5 years (iSeeCars measures ~74.8% on prior RAV4 Hybrids)
93/100
#1 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The RAV4 Hybrid sets the resale benchmark for compact SUVs: in iSeeCars' data, five-year-old examples lose only about a quarter of their value, against a class average near 40%. That figure is trimmed slightly here because the 2025 model is the final year of a generation that has been replaced by an all-new one, which usually softens residuals.

Basic warranty
3 yr / 36,000 mi bumper-to-bumper
0/100
#9 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota's standard 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty is the segment minimum. Hyundai and Kia both offer 5 yr / 60,000 mi.

Powertrain warranty
5 yr / 60,000 mi powertrain; hybrid components 8 yr / 100,000 mi; HV battery 10 yr / 150,000 mi
0/100
#12 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The headline powertrain warranty is the class minimum of 5 yr / 60,000 mi. The hybrid hardware has much longer coverage: 8 yr / 100,000 mi on hybrid components and a transferable 10 yr / 150,000 mi on the traction battery.

Complimentary maintenance & perks72
#5 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

ToyotaCare covers factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years / 25,000 miles and includes 2 years of roadside assistance, and the 2025 multimedia system adds connected-services trials. That beats rivals with no scheduled maintenance included, such as the CR-V, but falls short of multi-year premium-brand plans.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$17,062 (≈$12,062 depreciation + $5,000 maintenance)
85/100
#2 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

$37,695 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (68% retained, or about $25,633) leaves about $12,062 in depreciation. Add the projected $5,000 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $17,062 in total.

6Reliability & QualityOne of the RAV4's strongest categories.3.56A-
Predicted reliability85
#2 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

2025 is the seventh and final model year of the fifth-generation (XA50) RAV4, a carry-over of a well-debugged design. Consumer Reports rates the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid much more reliable than the average same-year vehicle; J.D. Power's 77/100 is only average, which holds it below the very top of the band.

Brand reliability track record85
#2 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota has sat at or near the top of Consumer Reports' brand reliability rankings throughout this generation and remains in the upper tier of J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study with multiple segment awards each year.

Recall & TSB history76
#3 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The 2025 RAV4 Hybrid's campaigns are software, label and low-volume build fixes shared across Toyota's lineup — no powertrain, fire or structural-design recall. The seat-bracket weld recall covers only four vehicles.

Powertrain durability reputation87
#2 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The volume hybrid pairs the 2.5L A25A-FXS Dynamic Force four with Toyota's planetary e-CVT and electric rear-axle AWD — an architecture with a long high-mileage record in RAV4, Camry and Prius fleet service, unchanged for 2025. The known generation issue, underbody HV cable/connector corrosion in salt-belt regions, is a warranty item rather than a core-drivetrain failure.

Interior material quality62
#15 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The XA50 cabin is rugged and durable with soft-touch dash inserts and chunky rubberized switchgear, but reviewers note abundant hard plastics on doors and lower surfaces and a dated feel next to the CR-V and Tucson; 2025 brought no material upgrades.

Fit & finish76
#4 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Seven years into the generation, assembly is consistent with few panel-gap complaints; scattered owner reports of dash rattles and wind noise, and J.D. Power's merely average quality score, keep it short of the top band.

Dealer & service network86
#2 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota's roughly 1,500-store US dealer network is among the densest of any brand, and hybrid service is routine at every Toyota dealer; service-satisfaction scores sit near the mass-market average.

Parts availability & repair cost87
#1 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

As America's best-selling SUV through a seven-year generation, the 2025 RAV4 has abundant OEM, used and aftermarket parts, and repair costs well under the compact-SUV average; hybrid components are shared across Toyota's THS lineup.

Touchscreen size

12/100
#20 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The volume XLE Hybrid uses the 8-in Toyota Audio Multimedia screen. The 10.5-in display is optional or standard only on higher trims.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness70
#13 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The Toyota Audio Multimedia system, introduced for MY2023, is far quicker and cleaner than the old Entune unit. Physical climate knobs and audio controls remain. The 8-in base screen feels small.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto90
#5 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every 2025 RAV4 Hybrid trim, including the 8-in units.

Voice control & native navigation58
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The "Hey Toyota" Intelligent Assistant and cloud-based navigation work reasonably well, but both depend on a Drive Connect subscription after the trial ends. Most owners use phone projection instead.

Audio system quality58
#22 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The base 6-speaker system is adequate. The 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio upgrade is limited to the Limited, so the volume trims get ordinary sound.

Digital instrument cluster64
#14 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Every trim has a 7-in digital gauge display flanked by analog-style elements. A full 12.3-in configurable cluster is standard on XSE/Limited and available on SE.

OTA update capability52
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota Audio Multimedia receives over-the-air software and map updates, but there are no whole-vehicle OTA updates that add powertrain or ADAS features.

Companion app & remote functions60
#18 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The Toyota app offers remote start/climate, lock/unlock, vehicle status and locate, but Remote Connect is a paid subscription after its trial. Digital Key is limited to upper trims.

Charging ports & device power62
#18 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

USB-C ports in both rows have been standard since the 2022 update. Wireless phone charging is standard on XSE/Limited but not on the volume XLE, and household outlets are confined to specific trims.

Keyless & remote access62
#23 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Smart Key proximity entry with push-button start is standard from XLE. Remote start is app-based and subscription-gated, and the hands-free power liftgate is a Limited package option.

Camera & parking aids62
#19 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

A backup camera is standard. The Panoramic View Monitor with Perimeter Scan and parking assist with automatic braking are optional on upper trims only.

Head-up display availability55
#11 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

A color head-up display is a roughly $600 option on the Limited only. It is not available on the volume trims.

8Use-Case FitMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.23C
Kid & car-seat practicality70
#11 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Wide rear doors, 39.5 in of rear headroom and IIHS-Good LATCH make car-seat installs easy. A 37.5 cu ft cargo hold takes a stroller and groceries, but 37.8 in of rear legroom trails the CR-V for rear-facing seats.

Family safety package66
#17 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

NHTSA rates it 5 stars overall and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard on every trim, with blind-spot monitoring from XLE. However, there is no 2025 IIHS award: the updated moderate-overlap test rates Marginal for rear-passenger protection.

Family road-trip comfort62
#14 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Rear-seat vents, a reclining rear bench and rear USB-C ports help, and about 566 miles of range means few stops. Firm seats, road noise and an average cargo hold limit it on longer trips with four aboard.

Daily driving ease74
#11 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The hybrid's electric creep and smooth eCVT make stop-and-go traffic relaxing, and full-speed radar cruise is standard. The firm ride and engine drone under hard throttle are minor annoyances.

Commuting cost efficiency82
#7 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

An EPA 39 MPG combined (41 city) on regular fuel, with standard AWD, makes this one of the cheapest compact SUVs to commute in. The city figure beats the highway one, which suits stop-and-go commutes.

Parking & maneuverability74
#6 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

A 180.9-in footprint and a 36.1-ft turning circle make it easy to thread through town. Thick rear pillars hurt visibility, and the 360° camera is an upper-trim option.

Work capability32
#12 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The hybrid is rated to tow only 1,750 lbs: a small utility trailer, nothing more. The cargo hold suits light trade supplies, so it is not meaningfully a work vehicle.

Durability for work duty68
#1 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota's hybrid system has a long durability record and the XA50 is a mature, final-year design. It is a family crossover, though, with a soft-touch interior that isn't built for jobsite abuse.

Jobsite & upfit practicality36
#14 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

It has cargo tie-down hooks, roof rails on many trims and a hitch receiver option, but no meaningful onboard power on the volume hybrid trims and little upfit ecosystem.

Long-distance comfort & range66
#15 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

About 566 miles of range and standard TSS 2.5 lane centering with radar cruise make it a capable tourer. Firm seats, road noise and engine drone on grades are its endurance limits.

Outdoor & adventure capability64
#8 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

AWD is standard on the hybrid and it has 8.1 in of ground clearance. The Woodland Edition adds all-terrain tires and a raised roof rack. That covers gravel and snow, but there's no low range, and the 1,750-lb tow rating limits toy-hauling.

Gear & luggage flexibility62
#9 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

A 60/40 fold-flat rear seat opens 69.8 cu ft with a near-flat floor, and roof rails are available. There's no pass-through or underfloor bin to speak of, so long or bulky gear is a squeeze.

9Driving ExperienceOne of the RAV4's weakest categories.2.08C
Handling & agility60
#18 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Body control is secure and predictable, and the hybrid's rear motor helps traction out of corners. It is neither as composed nor as engaging as a Mazda CX-5.

Steering feel52
#22 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The steering is accurate and reasonably weighted but numb, with little road feel.

Braking confidence62
#20 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Stopping power is adequate, and Toyota blends regenerative and friction braking better than most hybrids. The pedal is somewhat soft, and instrumented stops are mid-pack for the class.

Powertrain smoothness & response66
#11 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Engine stop/start and EV-to-hybrid transitions are smooth, and electric torque gives brisk tip-in. Under heavy throttle the eCVT holds high revs with a rubber-band feel.

Drivetrain noise & vibration48
#23 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The 2.5L four is coarse and drones loudly whenever it is pushed, a long-running XA50 complaint. It is quiet only when cruising lightly or creeping on electric power.

Turning circle
36.1 ft curb-to-curb (all 2025 RAV4 Hybrid trims)
74/100
#6 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

A 36.1-ft turning diameter is tight for an AWD compact SUV, which makes U-turns and parking-lot moves easy.

Driving position & ergonomics70
#11 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The upright, commanding seating position and chunky physical climate and audio controls are easy to use. Thick rear pillars and modest front legroom for very tall drivers are the minor compromises.

Fun-to-drive factor45
#22 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

It is competent and quick enough (about 7.4 s to 60), but the droning powertrain and numb steering make it an appliance. It is not a car people take the long way home in.

10Value & Market PositionGrades above the middle of the scale.2.76B-
Standard equipment generosity70
#16 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The Hybrid LE includes AWD, Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, dual-zone automatic climate control and the new 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. It is competitive for the class, but it still has cloth seats, a manual driver's seat and no power liftgate, all of which cost extra.

Feature value per dollar76
#5 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

AWD is standard, the hybrid gets 39 MPG, and resale value is class-leading. For roughly $33k–$38k, that makes the RAV4 Hybrid one of the strongest all-around deals in the segment. The trade-offs are a noisy engine and a dated interior.

Trim & configuration breadth78
#6 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The lineup is broad: four gas trims with FWD or AWD, seven hybrid trims (LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Woodland, SE, XSE, Limited) and the Prime plug-in. Prices run from about $30k to over $41k before the PHEV. For 2025, Toyota dropped the gas Adventure and TRD Off-Road trims, which narrows the off-road-oriented choices.

Sales popularity & market acceptance97
#1 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The RAV4 was America's best-selling SUV and best-selling non-pickup vehicle in 2025, setting a new sales record in the last year of its generation.

Brand desirability & image80
#1 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Toyota's reputation for reliability and resale value builds strong owner loyalty, and the RAV4 Hybrid is the default recommendation in its class. The brand is a trusted mainstream badge rather than an aspirational one.

Deals & incentive availability55
#22 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Demand kept the hybrid close to MSRP for most of the 2025 model year, with only modest subsidized financing, such as 4.75% APR over 72 months. Larger discounts showed up only as dealers cleared 2025 stock ahead of the redesigned 2026 model.

Model freshness30
#22 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

The 2025 model is the seventh and final year of the fifth generation (XA50, introduced for 2019 and refreshed for 2022). An all-new sixth generation was revealed in May 2025 and replaced it for 2026. The new multimedia system for 2025 helps, but buyers are getting a generation that is about to be replaced.

Critical reception & awards70
#9 of 24 Compact SUVsCompare all →

Reviewers broadly recommend it, praising its efficiency, resale value and practicality, and KBB lists it among the most fuel-efficient SUVs. It rarely wins head-to-head comparisons against the CR-V Hybrid or CX-5, though, because of its coarse engine and aging cabin. It also lost IIHS Top Safety Pick status after the 2024 protocol changes.
