The verdict

A mixed-report minivan, strong on efficiency and held back by performance.

The 2024 Sienna is the minivan to buy if you care most about running costs and long-term dependability. Every one is a 36 MPG hybrid that goes about 650 miles on a tank, and it pairs Toyota's reliability record with the best resale value in the class. You give up power (245 hp, roughly 7.7 s to 60), a quiet engine when you floor it, and the fold-flat floor of its rivals: the second row doesn't stow, so maximum cargo space tops out at 101 cu ft. This is also the last year before the 2025 refresh, so the 9-inch screen and wired-only CarPlay already look dated.

Jump to scores

Strengths

  • Hybrid economy no other minivan matches
  • Strong safety ratings with no feature paywall
  • Three real rows for the whole family

What holds it back

  • The least powerful van in the class
  • Second row doesn't stow, so cargo space suffers
  • Engine drone when you push it

Detailed scoring by subject

1Performance & PowertrainThe Sienna's lowest-graded category.0.67F
Horsepower
245 hp combined (2.5L I4 hybrid — every trim, FWD or AWD)
24/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2024 Sienna is a carry-over year of the fourth-generation (XL40, 2021–) van and stays hybrid-only: a 2.5L four (189 hp) in Toyota Hybrid System II for 245 hp combined, the same on every trim. That is the lowest output in the minivan class (Odyssey 280 hp, Pacifica 287 hp) and sits low in the 150–550 hp band.

Torque
176 lb-ft (2.5L engine); front drive motor adds 199 lb-ft from zero rpm
12/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Toyota publishes 176 lb-ft for the 2.5L engine and no combined system torque, so the engine figure is the comparable published spec. It understates real thrust — the front motor supplies instant torque off the line — but against V6 rivals at 262 lb-ft it lands near the bottom of the minivan band.

0–60 mph time
~7.7 s (instrumented, AWD); ~7.7–8.0 s across tests
30/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Instrumented tests of the mechanically unchanged XL40 Sienna cluster around 7.7 seconds, with some outlets recording up to 8.0 s. Adequate for family duty, but the slowest of the mainstream minivans (Odyssey ~7.0 s, Pacifica ~7.3 s).

Powertrain refinement72
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Around town the hybrid is the smoothest powertrain in the segment — silent EV creep, imperceptible engine start/stop and instant low-speed response. Under load, though, the 2.5L four revs high and turns coarse and loud on merges and grades, a consistent criticism that keeps it below the Odyssey's V6.

Transmission behavior80
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The planetary power-split eCVT has no gears to hunt between and no shift shock, avoiding the hunting noted on the Pacifica's 9-speed. The only knock is the rubber-band feel at full throttle, where revs flare ahead of road speed.

Max towing capacity
3,500 lbs (properly equipped; hitch standard on Woodland Edition)
36/100
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Rated at 3,500 lbs when properly equipped — level with the Odyssey and Carnival and 100 lbs behind the Pacifica, squarely at the class norm. Enough for a small boat or light utility trailer.

AWD/4WD availability72
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Electronic On-Demand AWD — a dedicated rear electric motor with no driveshaft — is optional on every 2024 trim and standard on the Woodland Edition, the widest AWD availability in the segment. Operation is basic (no low range, terrain modes or torque vectoring), so it lands mid-band, but ahead of the FWD-only Odyssey and the Pacifica.

Off-road capability35
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The Woodland Edition (offered since MY2022) adds standard AWD, a modest lift to roughly 6.9 in of clearance, roof rails and a tow hitch — a real edge over other minivans for gravel roads and trailheads. Beyond that there are no skid plates, lockers or terrain modes; light-duty unpaved use only.

Powertrain lineup breadth32
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

One powertrain, take it or leave it: no gas-only, plug-in or EV Sienna, and FWD/AWD is the only choice. It edges the equally single-powertrain Odyssey because its one option is electrified, but trails the Pacifica's gas-plus-PHEV pairing.

2Efficiency & RangeThe Sienna's best-graded category.4.00A+
Combined fuel economy
36 MPG combined (FWD); 35 MPG (AWD)
100/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2024 Sienna carries over the hybrid-only 2.5L THS II powertrain; the volume LE/XLE trims are FWD at 36 MPG combined. That makes it the most efficient minivan on sale by a wide margin over V6 rivals.

City fuel economy
36 MPG city (FWD); 35 MPG (AWD)
100/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Full-hybrid EV creep and regenerative braking make city economy equal to highway — a profile no gas minivan can match in stop-and-go driving.

Highway fuel economy
36 MPG highway (FWD and AWD)
100/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

On the highway the hybrid advantage narrows, but 36 MPG still leads V6 minivans by roughly 8–10 MPG.

Driving range
~648 mi (18.0-gal tank × 36 MPG combined, FWD)
100/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

An 18.0-gallon tank at 36 MPG combined gives roughly 650 miles between fills — best in the minivan class. EPA does not publish a range figure for non-plug-in vehicles, so it is computed from the tank and the combined rating.

Estimated annual fuel cost
$1,850/yr (FWD, regular fuel, EPA 15k mi); $1,900 AWD
73/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

EPA's annual cost estimate for the FWD van is $1,850 on regular fuel — the lowest in the minivan segment, and $2,750 saved over five years against the average new vehicle per fueleconomy.gov.

Fuel requirements95
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2.5L hybrid runs on regular 87-octane unleaded and charges itself — no premium fuel, no plug and no charging setup required.

3SafetyOne of the Sienna's strongest categories.3.27B+
NHTSA overall rating
5 stars overall (4-star frontal, 4-star rollover)
100/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2024 Sienna, a carry-over year of the XL40 generation launched for 2021, holds a 5-star NHTSA overall rating, with a 4-star frontal result (3-star driver frontal) and the 4-star rollover typical of minivans.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness74
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2024 Sienna earned a 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick (not TSP+), with Good ratings in driver and passenger small overlap, the original moderate overlap and the updated side test. The updated moderate overlap test, which grades rear-passenger protection, came back Marginal, keeping it out of TSP+ and below the all-Good tier.

Standard ADAS suite breadth86
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every 2024 trim including the base LE: pre-collision with pedestrian detection, full-speed-range dynamic radar cruise, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist and auto high beams. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is standard across the lineup, so no core feature is trim-locked; it is the older TSS 2.0 rather than the TSS 3.0 that arrived later.

Automatic emergency braking performance68
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

IIHS rates the 2024 Sienna's pedestrian front crash prevention Acceptable overall: it avoided the crossing-adult target at night at 12 and 25 mph and the parallel adult at 25 mph, but only slowed for the crossing child at 25 mph (21 mph reduction) and did not stop for the parallel adult at 37 mph. Good, not top-tier, AEB.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage76
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is standard on every 2024 trim, which is better than rivals that reserve it for upper grades. Coverage is alert-only with no active steering or braking intervention, keeping it below the top band.

Lane keeping & centering70
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist come standard through TSS 2.0 and hold the van in the lane competently on well-marked highways. Reviewers note Toyota's centering of this era can wander or nudge on faded markings — functional rather than class-leading.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist74
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with stop-and-go is standard on all trims and pairs with Lane Tracing Assist for a hands-on highway assist. Following is smooth, though resume behavior and lack of a traffic-jam mode keep it short of the best systems.

Hands-free driving availability10
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

No hands-free highway driving mode is offered on any 2024 Sienna trim; all assistance requires hands on the wheel.

Headlight performance88
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Every 2024 Sienna headlight variant rates Good with IIHS — the LED reflectors on LE/XLE/XSE/Limited and the LED projectors on Platinum — and automatic high beams are standard via TSS 2.0.

Outward visibility80
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

A tall greenhouse and upright seating give a commanding forward view typical of minivans, while the styled rear three-quarter and thicker C-pillars create more over-the-shoulder blind zone than an Odyssey. Upper trims compensate with an available Panoramic View Monitor and digital rearview mirror; the volume trim relies on the standard backup camera.

Child-seat (LATCH) usability84
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

IIHS rates the 2024 Sienna's LATCH Good, with extra LATCH positions spread across its rear seating rows. Wide power sliding doors and long-slide second-row seats make installing and reaching car seats easy; a true three-across needs the 8-passenger bench.

4Space & ComfortMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.65C+
Seating capacity
8 seats (LE and some XLE, 2nd-row bench with stowable middle seat); 7 seats with Super Long Slide captain's chairs on other grades
100/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2024 Sienna, a carry-over year of the 2021-launched XL40 generation, offers 8-passenger seating on LE and some XLE vans and 7-passenger captain's-chair seating elsewhere. Eight seats is the top of the minivan band.

Front headroom
40.1 in
62/100
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

40.1 in of front headroom is mid-pack for a minivan, a shade under the Odyssey and well ahead of the Pacifica.

Front legroom
40.3 in
7/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

40.3 in is the shortest published front legroom among mainstream minivans (Odyssey 40.9, Pacifica 41.1), near the floor of the band; the upright driving position feels roomier than the figure suggests.

Rear headroom
39.3 in (2nd row)
82/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Second-row headroom is generous thanks to the boxy XL40 roofline, sitting in the upper part of the minivan band and well ahead of the Pacifica.

Rear legroom
39.9 in (2nd row); Super Long Slide captain's chairs travel 25 in on 7-seat grades
82/100
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

39.9 in of second-row legroom sits high in the band, and the 25-in Super Long Slide on captain's-chair grades gives limousine-like space when the third row is empty.

Third-row usability84
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The third row offers 38.7 in of legroom and 37.4 in of headroom, a 60/40 split that reclines and folds into a deep well, and walk-in access past the sliding second row through wide power doors — genuinely adult-usable, just behind the Odyssey because the low cushion raises adult knees.

Cargo/trunk volume
75.2 cu ft behind 2nd row (3rd row folded); 33.5 cu ft behind 3rd row
46/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

75.2 cu ft with the third row in its well sits mid-band for minivans, trailing the Odyssey and Pacifica; 33.5 cu ft with all rows up is a deep, useful well.

Max cargo volume
101.0 cu ft behind 1st row (2nd row slid forward — does not fold flat or stow)
14/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The second row neither stows like the Pacifica's Stow 'n Go nor lifts out like the Odyssey's, capping maximum cargo at 101 cu ft — low in the minivan band versus 140–158 cu ft rivals.

In-cabin storage & clever solutions72
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The bridge console with a large pass-through bin, seven USB ports, an available 1,500-watt AC inverter and the deep third-row well cover family duty well; the non-stowing second row denies the flat van floor that defines the segment's best clever solutions.

Seat comfort76
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Second-row captain's chairs with available ottomans and long slide are excellent for long hauls; front seats are supportive but flat-cushioned, and the third row is fine rather than plush.

Ride quality78
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The TNGA-K platform delivers a settled, well-damped ride with good body control; sharp impacts register more firmly on 20-in wheels, a step short of the Pacifica's plushness.

Cabin quietness70
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Near-silent EV-mode creeping around town, but the 2.5L four drones loudly under hard acceleration and on grades, and highway road noise is only average.

Climate & comfort features80
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Four-zone climate is available, heated/ventilated front seats, a heated wheel, heated second-row captain's chairs, second-row sunshades and an 11.6-in rear entertainment screen are on offer; the richest content is reserved for XSE Premium and higher.

5Cost of OwnershipMid-pack among this car's ten categories.2.33C+
Base MSRP
$38,580 (LE FWD incl. $1,395 destination; LE AWD $40,580)
66/100
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2024 LE FWD is the entry point to the fourth-generation (XL40) Sienna, a carry-over year before the MY2025 refresh; every trim is hybrid. It undercuts the Odyssey and Pacifica on sticker.

Volume-Trim Price
$43,890 (XLE FWD incl. destination; XLE AWD $45,890; range to $54,800 Platinum AWD)
59/100
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The XLE is the volume trim. It adds SofTex upholstery, heated front seats, a power liftgate and a moonroof over the LE, and it still lands below comparable Odyssey EX-L and Pacifica Limited pricing.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
~$3,500 over 5 yrs (segment-low; yrs 1–2 largely covered by ToyotaCare)
92/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The hybrid drivetrain has no starter, alternator or conventional automatic to service, and regenerative braking extends brake life. ToyotaCare also covers scheduled service for the first two years. The estimate sits between CarEdge's low figure, which excludes warranty work, and the higher class-average estimates.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
~62% retained at 5 years (sources range ~55–75%; segment-best)
73/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The Sienna is the minivan segment's residual-value leader. Real-world data shows the 2024 LE has lost only about 8% in two years. CarEdge's 5-year projection is used as the central figure.

Basic warranty
3 yr / 36,000 mi bumper-to-bumper
0/100
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Toyota's standard new-vehicle limited warranty is at the industry floor. It matches Honda and Chrysler and trails Kia's 5-year coverage on the Carnival.

Powertrain warranty
5 yr / 60,000 mi powertrain; hybrid components 8 yr / 100,000 mi; HV battery 10 yr / 150,000 mi
0/100
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Headline powertrain coverage is the standard 5 yr / 60,000 mi. Because the Sienna is hybrid-only, every van also gets 8-year hybrid-component and 10-year traction-battery coverage, which the scored figure does not capture.

Complimentary maintenance & perks68
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

ToyotaCare covers factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 yr / 25,000 mi plus 2 years of unlimited-mileage roadside assistance, and connected-services trials are included. That is a real multi-year package, ahead of Honda and Chrysler but shorter than Hyundai/Kia's 3-year programs.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$20,178 (≈$16,678 depreciation + $3,500 maintenance)
77/100
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

$43,890 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (62% retained, or about $27,212) leaves about $16,678 in depreciation. Add the projected $3,500 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $20,178 in total.

6Reliability & QualityOne of the Sienna's strongest categories.3.58A-
Predicted reliability83
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Consumer Reports rates the 2024 Sienna more reliable than the average 2024 model. Owner complaints center on body hardware and in-car electronics rather than the drivetrain. J.D. Power is less enthusiastic at 77/100 (Average), so it sits in the top band but below the 2026 car's segment-award standing. It is scored above the 2022 car because two more production years had worked out early-generation issues.

Brand reliability track record86
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Over the 2023–2025 window when this car was sold and owned, Toyota consistently ranked in the top three of Consumer Reports' brand reliability rankings with Lexus. It also beat the industry average in J.D. Power's VDS. Scored in step with the other 2022–2024 Toyotas in this dataset.

Recall & TSB history78
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Only one Toyota campaign covers the 2024 Sienna: the generation-wide third-row seatback-bolt recall. The other two NHTSA entries are third-party wheelchair-restraint conversions, not Toyota defects. None touches the engine, hybrid system or traction battery. The 2024 record is lighter than the 2022's, which also carried seat-belt and VSC-software campaigns.

Powertrain durability reputation88
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Every 2024 Sienna is a hybrid with the 2.5L A25A-FXS and Toyota's planetary THS II e-CVT. That powertrain family is shared with the Camry, RAV4 and Highlander hybrids and has a long high-mileage record. By 2024 it had four years of service in this van with no powertrain recalls. The E-Four AWD rear motor is the only unshared hardware.

Interior material quality65
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The 2024 cabin is the original XL40 design, built for durability rather than richness. Hard plastics cover the lower dash, the bridge console and the door panels on the volume LE/XLE trims. Reviewers place it behind the Pacifica and Carnival on perceived quality at similar money. Leather on the Limited and Platinum trims does not change that.

Fit & finish76
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Assembly at Toyota's Indiana plant has no recurring panel-gap or rattle theme. It stays below the top band because Consumer Reports owners flag body-hardware complaints, mainly the power sliding doors, liftgate and kick sensors, and J.D. Power rates quality only Average.

Dealer & service network88
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Toyota has one of the two densest mainstream dealer networks in the US. Every store services hybrids routinely, which matters for a hybrid-only van. Service satisfaction is good rather than class-topping.

Parts availability & repair cost84
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The engine and hybrid transaxle are shared with Toyota's highest-volume hybrids, so parts are plentiful and independent shops know the system. Minivan-specific hardware is mostly dealer-sourced: power sliding-door mechanisms, liftgate parts and kick sensors. An out-of-warranty traction battery is still a four-figure repair.

7Technology & InfotainmentOne of the Sienna's weakest categories.1.85C-
Touchscreen size
9.0 in on every grade (no larger screen offered for 2024)
24/100
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Every 2024 Sienna grade uses a 9-in touchscreen; the 12.3-in Toyota Audio Multimedia screen arrived only with the 2025 refresh.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness60
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The pre-refresh 9-in system is simple, with physical volume/tune knobs and hard climate controls, but its graphics look dated, it is slower and its native interface is plainer than the 2025 Toyota Audio Multimedia replacement or Kia's dual-screen setup.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto52
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every grade but wired only; wireless projection was not offered on any 2024 Sienna and arrived with the 2025 refresh.

Voice control & native navigation55
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Premium Audio grades add Dynamic Navigation with cloud-updated maps, but voice control is the older command-style system, not the later natural-language 'Hey Toyota' assistant; most owners use phone projection.

Audio system quality76
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Base audio is 6 or 8 speakers, and a 12-speaker JBL system with subwoofer is standard on Woodland/Limited/Platinum and optional on XLE/XSE — a branded upgrade the Odyssey lacks, though not class-leading.

Digital instrument cluster50
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

All 2024 grades pair analog gauges with a 7-in multi-information display; no full-digital cluster is offered (it came with the 2025 refresh).

OTA update capability45
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Dynamic Navigation updates map data over the air on upper grades, but the head unit and vehicle software are not meaningfully updated OTA.

Companion app & remote functions60
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The Toyota app offers remote lock/unlock, start/stop, vehicle status and guest-driver monitoring, but only on XLE and above, and only via a 1-year trial before subscription; LE gets none of it.

Charging ports & device power80
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Seven USB ports across three rows, an optional wireless charger and an available 1,500-watt inverter with 120V AC outlet make this one of the best-powered cabins in the class.

Keyless & remote access72
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Smart Key proximity entry and push-button start, power sliding doors, and available kick-activated sliding doors and liftgate; app remote start requires a subscription and there is no phone-as-key.

Camera & parking aids72
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

A backup camera with projected path is standard; Panoramic View Monitor with Perimeter Scan and Curb View plus a digital rearview mirror are available on upper grades — ahead of the Odyssey, which has no surround view.

Head-up display availability55
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

A 10-in color head-up display is offered, but only on the top Platinum grade.

8Use-Case FitGrades above the middle of the scale.3.02B
Kid & car-seat practicality82
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Wide power sliding doors (kick-activated available), a 25-in sliding second row, an 8-seat option with a stowable middle seat and a deep cargo well make daily kid logistics easy; the non-removable second row limits flexibility versus the Odyssey and Pacifica.

Family safety package76
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every grade, LATCH and headlights rate Good, and the van earned a 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick; a Marginal rear-passenger result in the updated moderate-overlap test kept it from TSP+, a notable caveat for a vehicle that carries kids in back.

Family road-trip comfort84
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Three adult-usable rows, four-zone climate, ottomans, rear sunshades, available 11.6-in rear entertainment, seven USB ports and 33.5 cu ft behind the third row, plus ~36 mpg range, make it an excellent family tourer.

Daily driving ease80
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The hybrid creeps silently in traffic, the ride is settled and the controls are light; the occasional engine drone under acceleration is the main annoyance.

Commuting cost efficiency92
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

At 36 mpg combined (FWD) the Sienna nearly doubles the fuel economy of V6 rivals on regular fuel, making it the cheapest minivan to commute in by a wide margin.

Parking & maneuverability62
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

A 38.3-ft turning circle is reasonable for a minivan, and available surround-view cameras help, but it remains a 200-in-plus vehicle that needs care in tight lots.

Work capability55
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

A 3,500-lb tow rating and 101 cu ft of enclosed space handle light work, but the non-stowing second row prevents a flat cargo floor for sheet goods.

Durability for work duty82
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Toyota's hybrid system has a long fleet-proven record (Camry/Prius/RAV4 taxis and fleets), and the Sienna's reliability reputation is strong, though the family-oriented interior is not built for abuse.

Jobsite & upfit practicality60
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

The available 1,500-watt inverter with 120V outlet is genuinely useful for tools, and a hitch comes on Woodland, but there is no commercial/cargo upfit ecosystem.

Long-distance comfort & range85
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Comfortable seats, a composed ride, standard TSS 2.0 adaptive cruise and lane tracing, and ~600 miles of range from an 18-gal tank make it a superb mile-eater, tempered by engine drone on grades.

Outdoor & adventure capability64
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Available electric AWD, the Woodland Edition's raised ride height, roof rails, hitch and 1,500-watt inverter make it a capable camping/gravel-road hauler, though it is no off-roader.

Gear & luggage flexibility63
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

A deep third-row well, 33.5 cu ft with all seats up and an available hitch handle luggage well, but bulky gear suffers because the second row cannot be stowed or removed, capping space at 101 cu ft.

Handling & agility62

The TNGA-K platform and low-mounted hybrid battery keep body roll in check and the van feels secure, but it is not as tidy as the Odyssey through corners.

Steering feel58
#3 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Steering is light and accurate enough for parking and highway use but offers little feedback.

Braking confidence64
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Stopping distances are average for the class and regen blending is mostly smooth, though the pedal feels soft and slightly artificial as is typical of Toyota hybrids.

Powertrain smoothness & response76
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Hybrid transitions are seamless and low-speed electric response is smooth, but the e-CVT revs high and feels strained when merging or climbing with a load.

Drivetrain noise & vibration58
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Near-silent in EV mode, but the 2.5L four drones coarsely under load — the most common complaint against the Sienna versus V6 rivals.

38.3 ft on the volume trims sits in the middle of the minivan band.

Driving position & ergonomics70
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

High, upright seating with good forward visibility and easy entry; the wide bridge console and modest front legroom crowd taller drivers, and power tilt/telescope wheel is limited to upper grades.

Fun-to-drive factor55

Pleasant and relaxing but appliance-like; the XSE's sport tuning adds little genuine engagement.

The 2024 LE includes the 245-hp hybrid, Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, dual power sliding doors, tri-zone climate and a 9-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration. Heated seats, a power liftgate and leather-style upholstery require the XLE, and the pre-refresh LE lacks the 12.3-inch screen and TSS 3.0 that arrived for 2025.

Feature value per dollar82
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Every Sienna is a ~36 MPG hybrid against V6 rivals in the low 20s, AWD costs about $2K on most trims, and segment-best residuals protect the purchase. Together these make it the strongest content-for-cost case among minivans despite a modest base screen.

Trim & configuration breadth80
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Six trims (LE, XLE, XSE, Woodland Edition, Limited, Platinum) span about $38.6K–$54.8K. AWD is offered across the range, buyers can pick 7 or 8 seats, and a new XSE Premium Package fills the mid-range gap. The one gap is the single hybrid powertrain.

Sales popularity & market acceptance84
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

With hybrid supply easing in 2024, the Sienna traded the US minivan sales lead with the Odyssey and outsold the Pacifica and Carnival. Demand was strong enough that dealer markups persisted into the model year.

Brand desirability & image85
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Toyota's reliability and resale reputation is the strongest among mainstream brands. That matters most to the risk-averse family buyer this van targets and directly underpins its residuals.

Deals & incentive availability42
#4 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Through 2024 the Sienna was among the least-discounted minivans: dealer addendums were still common early in the model year, and Toyota's incentives were mostly modest APR offers rather than cash. Buyers got far less money off than on the heavily incentivized Pacifica.

Model freshness60
#1 of 4 minivansCompare all →

MY2024 is the fourth year of the XL40 generation (launched MY2021 on TNGA-K) and a carry-over with only appearance tweaks. The MY2025 refresh, which brought the larger screen and TSS 3.0, was imminent. It is still newer than the Odyssey and Pacifica platforms.

Critical reception & awards76
#2 of 4 minivansCompare all →

Reviewers rate the Sienna at or near the top of the class for hybrid efficiency, available AWD and reliability, and it collects best-minivan and best-resale honors. It loses comparison tests on drivetrain refinement (eCVT drone, 245 hp) and on seat flexibility, so it wins often but not automatically.
