The verdict

A mixed-report sports car, strong on performance and held back by efficiency.

The 2023 Corvette Stingray is the cheapest way to buy genuine supercar performance: 490 hp (495 with Z51), 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds, and 1.03 g of grip for $65,895 to start — about $42,000 less than a base 2023 Porsche 911 that is a full second slower to 60. It also holds its value better than almost anything else sold that year, with Kelley Blue Book projecting 65.3% retention after five years, fifth best of any 2023 vehicle. The catch is that 2023 is the last model year before Chevrolet made automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist standard, so this car has no collision-avoidance system of any kind, no adaptive cruise, and no all-wheel drive. Add 16 MPG city on required premium fuel and strictly two seats, and it is a toy you can drive daily rather than a car that does everything.

Jump to scores

Strengths

  • Supercar acceleration at a sports-car price
  • Handling that flatters the driver instead of intimidating them
  • The best resale value of any C8 model year

What holds it back

  • No crash-avoidance technology at all — and 2024 fixed it
  • Expensive to feed, every single mile
  • Two seats, rear-wheel drive, and nowhere to put a kid

#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Chevrolet's quoted 2.9-second 0–60 for the Z51-equipped Stingray is quicker than the 3.0-second floor of the coupe band, so the item pins at the top — mid-engine traction and a 100-ms-shift dual-clutch are what let a car at this price run supercar numbers.

Powertrain refinement88
#3 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The naturally aspirated LT2 has no turbocharger to lag and, in 2023, no hybrid handoff to stumble over — throttle response is immediate and linear from idle, the engine stays tractable at low revs, and cylinder deactivation keeps it civil when cruising.

Transmission behavior76
#13 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The Tremec eight-speed dual-clutch shifts in as little as 100 ms and is decisive once moving, but it remains noticeably abrupt at crawling speeds — a well-documented C8 trait — and there is no manual option anywhere in the 2023 lineup.

AWD/4WD availability12
#12 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Every 2023 Corvette is rear-wheel drive — the Stingray and the new Z06 alike. All-wheel drive does not exist anywhere in the 2023 lineup; the electrified AWD E-Ray is a 2024 model-year car, so this year has no all-weather configuration at any price.

Powertrain lineup breadth58
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 offers two genuinely distinct engines — the 6.2L pushrod LT2 in the Stingray and the new flat-plane-crank 5.5L LT6 in the Z06 — but both are naturally aspirated gas V8s sharing one dual-clutch transmission, with no electrified, forced-induction or manual option anywhere in the range.

4/100
#14 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

19 MPG combined sits barely above the 18 MPG floor of the gas-coupe band — cylinder deactivation and a tall eighth gear help, but 6.2 naturally aspirated liters in a car this quick leave it near the bottom of the field.

City fuel economy
16 MPG city (Stingray); Z06 drops to 12 MPG city
0/100
#14 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

16 MPG city lands exactly on the floor of the coupe city band and scores 0 — the LT2's cylinder deactivation does little in stop-and-go work, where mass and gearing dominate.

Highway fuel economy

0/100
#13 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

24 MPG highway is the Corvette's best efficiency showing and genuinely usable on a long trip thanks to cylinder deactivation and a tall top gear, but it sits exactly on the 24 MPG coupe band floor and so scores 0.

Driving range
352 miles per 18.5-gallon tank at 19 MPG combined; roughly 444 miles at the 24 MPG highway figure
15/100
#8 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

An 18.5-gallon tank at the EPA's 19 MPG combined gives about 352 miles — short of the 400-plus a grand-touring coupe manages, though the highway figure stretches it meaningfully on a road trip.

Estimated annual fuel cost
$4,100/yr at EPA assumptions (15,000 mi/yr, premium fuel)
0/100
#11 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

At 19 MPG combined on 93-octane premium, annual fuel spend runs well past the $3,200 top of the coupe cost band; the figure is taken from the premium-fuel basis EPA applies to the identical powertrain in the adjacent model years, because EPA's own 2023 record miscodes the fuel grade.

Fuel requirements15
#14 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Chevrolet specifies 93-octane premium for the LT2, and every 2023 Corvette is a premium-fuel gas V8 — there is no regular-fuel configuration, no hybrid and no plug anywhere in the lineup to sidestep the pump.

3SafetyGrades near the bottom of the scale.0.19F
NHTSA overall rating
Not rated by NHTSA (est. 4 stars)
50/100
#3 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

NHTSA holds records for the 2023 Corvette in both coupe and convertible form, but every rating field in them reads 'Not Rated' — no overall, frontal, side, side-pole or rollover star rating has ever been published for the C8 in any model year, because a two-seat sports car at this production volume falls outside routine NCAP vehicle selection. Estimated at 4 stars from the C8's aluminum spaceframe and the long front crush zone the mid-engine layout affords, but there is no tested figure behind it. Federal FMVSS compliance testing is a separate pass/fail certification exercise and does not produce a star rating.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness57
#4 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

IIHS has not crash-tested the C8 Corvette in any model year, so there is no Top Safety Pick or TSP+ award and not one individual crashworthiness result on record for the generation. Scored mid-band as untested-without-published-concerns rather than in the 0-49 band, which the guidance reserves for Marginal/Poor results or untested with known structural doubts. Placed marginally above the 2024 car's treatment because the 2023 model year carries a single open safety recall and it sits in the fuel system rather than the occupant-restraint path — the seat-belt retractor recall that weighs on the 2024/2025 cars does not reach this model year.

Standard ADAS suite breadth25
#10 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 is the last model year before the C8's safety overhaul, and the gap is total rather than partial: of this item's five named features — AEB, adaptive cruise, lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert — only the last two exist on the car at all. Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and the Following Distance Indicator are all absent from the 2023 order guide entirely and all arrive marked 'NEW!' in the 2024 guide; adaptive cruise is not offered at any price in either year. Side Blind Zone Alert with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is standard on 2LT and 3LT — which covers the volume trim, 3LT being the most-ordered 2023 Stingray grade — but is not orderable on the 1LT. That is one of five features present on the volume trim and no collision-avoidance system of any kind, which is squarely the 0-49 band's 'significant safety features locked to upper trims or unavailable' rather than the 50-79 band's 'core features standard'.

Automatic emergency braking performance5
#14 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

There is no automatic emergency braking on the 2023 Corvette to evaluate — no AEB, no Intelligent Brake Assist, no Front Pedestrian Braking and no Forward Collision Alert, on any trim, at any price. The entire system arrives a model year later. The guidance's 0-49 floor describes 'basic or poorly rated AEB'; an outright absence is worse than basic, so this sits at the bottom of that band. Scored rather than omitted, per the run's instruction to score an absent capability in the low band.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage60
#5 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Side Blind Zone Alert with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is standard on the 2LT and the 3LT, and on a car with the C8's rearward sightlines it is the single most valuable assist fitted — GM Authority has called it an absolute necessity on this vehicle. It is also, in 2023, the only driver-assistance system on the car. It is alert-only: mirror icons that flash with the turn signal, no active steering or braking intervention and no safe-exit alert. Available on most trims, alert-only, is the middle of the 50-79 band, and the 1LT going without it entirely — not orderable at any price on that trim — keeps it there rather than higher.

Lane keeping & centering5
#11 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The 2023 Corvette has no lane assistance of any kind — no lane departure warning, no lane keep assist and no lane centering, standard or optional, on any trim. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning is one of the features introduced for 2024, and NHTSA's own record for the 2023 car confirms lane departure warning as unavailable rather than merely optional. Absent lane assistance is the floor of the 0-49 band.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist5
#14 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Conventional fixed-speed cruise control only. The 2023 order guide lists exactly one cruise entry — 'Cruise control, electronic with set and resume speed' — with no adaptive function, no stop-and-go and no highway assist, and there is no optional path to any of it: GM engineers have said the C8's sensor architecture would need a redesign to support ACC, and it has never been offered on the car. The 2023 model year sits a notch below the 2024 car on this item because it lacks even the Following Distance Indicator, the sensor-derived following-time readout that arrived in 2024 and at least reports a gap without controlling speed. The guidance puts basic cruise only in the 0-49 band; with nothing at all above plain cruise, this is the floor of it.

Hands-free driving availability8
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

No hands-free highway driving is available on the 2023 Corvette in any trim or package. Super Cruise is GM's strongest card in this item — a mature, heavily mapped North American system — but it has never been offered on the C8, which carries neither the forward camera and radar suite it depends on nor a driver-attention camera, and for 2023 its Chevrolet availability was confined to the full-size trucks and SUVs. A couple of points above zero because the capability exists in the corporate portfolio; it buys a Corvette owner nothing.

Headlight performance58
#8 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

All-LED headlamps are standard on every 2023 trim in both body styles, so there is no cheap-trim halogen penalty and the projector hardware itself is competitive. What the 2023 car does not have is any automatic beam control at all: IntelliBeam auto high beams are not on the 2023 order guide in any form and arrive as new standard equipment for 2024, so every high-beam change is manual. There is also no curve-adaptive or matrix-segment beam of the kind the German coupes in this segment fit as standard, and IIHS has never rated Corvette headlights, so there is no Good result to point to. Complete but basic hardware — the lower half of the 50-79 band, a clear step below the 2024 car.

Outward visibility55
#8 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Sharply split, and it has been the C8's signature ergonomic trade since 2020. Forward and quartering vision is a genuine strength of the mid-engine layout — the short front deck, low cowl and forward-set windshield give a view over the nose no front-engine GT in this segment matches. Rearward it is among the worst in the class: the engine deck, thick flying buttresses and a shallow letterbox rear window produce a blind zone owners routinely describe as the worst they have encountered, severe enough that aftermarket blind-spot mirrors are a common first purchase. Camera compensation is the saving grace and is better than most rivals — the Rear Camera Mirror replaces the mirror view outright with a wide-angle feed — but it is standard only on 2LT and 3LT, and the front curb-view camera is a paid option rather than standard equipment. Scored a notch below the 2024 car for a 2023-specific reason: the semiconductor shortage forced 2023 builds to take RPO 00Y, deleting Rear Park Assist from cars whose order guide otherwise lists it as standard, so a meaningful share of 2023 Corvettes left the plant without rear parking sensors and needed a dealer retrofit to get them.

4Space & ComfortGrades below the middle of the scale.1.50D
Seating capacity
2 seats (strict two-seater — every 2023 Corvette body style and trim, Stingray coupe/convertible and Z06 alike)
0/100
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The Corvette has been a two-seat car for all eight generations, and the mid-engine C8 puts the LT2 V8 exactly where a rear seat would otherwise sit, so there is no 2+2 configuration on any 2023 trim.

Front headroom
37.9 in front headroom (coupe with the standard removable roof panel)
47/100
#8 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

37.9 in sits just below the middle of the 36–40 in coupe band — respectable given how low the C8 sits, because the seats are mounted very close to the floor pan rather than the roof being tall.

Front legroom
42.8 in front legroom
70/100
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

42.8 in is generous for a mid-engine layout and lands in the upper half of the 40–44 in coupe band; the C8's firewall-forward packaging buys tall drivers room that a front-engine sports car of the same footprint cannot offer.

Cargo/trunk volume
12.6 cu ft total across two compartments (front trunk plus rear trunk behind the engine); Chevrolet markets it as room for two sets of golf clubs
39/100
#7 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

12.6 cu ft is genuinely large for a two-seat mid-engine car — more than a compact sedan's trunk — and the split between a frunk and a rear bin means the space is usable in two separate loads, though it is still only mid-band for coupes generally.

In-cabin storage & clever solutions55
#4 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The two-trunk layout is the clever solution here and it works, but inside the cabin proper the 2023 C8 is sparse — a shallow console bin under the armrest holding two USB ports, a small storage cubby behind the motorized infotainment screen, a parcel shelf behind the seats, and door pockets that barely take a water bottle. There is no conventional glovebox.

Seat comfort78
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Long-haul comfort is a repeated finding rather than a one-off: reviewers describe the GT2 buckets as road-trip seats that stay comfortable over thousands of miles without being restrictive. GT1 buckets are standard on 1LT/2LT, GT2 comes with 3LT, the aggressive Competition Sport seats are optional, and heating plus ventilation arrive on the 2LT volume trim.

Ride quality74
#4 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

With the optional Magnetic Selective Ride Control the C8 rides far better than its cornering limits suggest, and Tour mode is genuinely compliant over patched asphalt and speed bumps. Cars without MSRC, and Z51 cars on stiffer springs and Pilot Sport 4S rubber, are noticeably firmer over broken pavement.

Cabin quietness52
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Quiet enough to cruise — wind and engine noise are both well suppressed at a steady highway speed — but the mid-engine layout puts a 6.2L V8 directly behind the occupants' heads and tire roar on coarse surfaces is the recurring complaint, with owners reporting it reaches conversation-blocking levels. Refined by Corvette standards and average at best against luxury coupes.

Climate & comfort features72
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

For a two-seat sports car the comfort kit is broad: dual-zone automatic climate control standard from the 1LT, and heated plus ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, the memory convenience package and power lumbar all standard on the 2LT volume trim. The catch is the delivery — the climate controls sit on the much-criticized vertical button wall between the seats.

5Cost of OwnershipOne of the Corvette's weakest categories.0.00F
Base MSRP
$65,895 (Stingray 1LT coupe, incl. $1,395 destination); 1LT convertible $73,395; Z06 1LZ coupe from $106,395
0/100
#11 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The 2023 Stingray 1LT coupe climbed through the model year in three steps — $62,295 at the March 2022 order-guide release, $63,295 after a $1,000 bump, then $65,595 after a $2,300 across-the-board increase in June 2022 — and settled at the $65,895 delivered price KBB records as the year's original MSRP. Every one of those figures sits far above the top of the coupe normalization band and clamps the item at 0, but the 2023 car is still the cheapest C8 model year of the three that follow it and undercuts a base 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera by more than $40,000.

Volume-Trim Price
~$78,000 (Stingray 2LT coupe as typically equipped, incl. destination); $73,195 delivered before options
0/100
#10 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The 2LT is the volume coupe grade — 10,450 2LT coupes were built for 2023 against 7,652 3LT and 6,732 1LT — and it delivered for $73,195. Corvettes are rarely ordered stripped: 57.5% of 2023 Stingrays took the $6,345 Z51 package, and adding it at that take rate plus typical paint and wheel choices puts a real 2LT coupe near $78,000, the anchor used here. Worth noting that this is an MSRP anchor and 2023 transaction prices were routinely above it, since dealer markups on C8s were widespread that year.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
~$8,400 over 5 years (published estimates range $2,800–$9,300)
9/100
#9 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The published estimates diverge by a factor of three because they measure different things: CarEdge counts essentially scheduled service only and puts a Corvette Stingray at about $560 a year, roughly $2,800 over five years, while KBB's cost-to-own model for the adjacent 2024 car prices in consumables at about $1,860 a year, roughly $9,300. The figure used sits near the KBB end, which is what a Corvette's real running costs look like — an eight-quart dexos oil service, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S sets at roughly $1,600 fitted, and large brakes that wear quickly if the car is driven the way it invites — trimmed slightly below the 2024 car's estimate to track this year's lower price basis.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
65.3% of MSRP retained at 5 years (KBB projection) — 5th best of any 2023 vehicle, and the strongest of any C8 model year
100/100
#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Kelley Blue Book projected the 2023 Corvette to hold 65.3% of original sticker after 60 months and placed it fifth overall across the entire 2023 market in its Best Resale Value Awards. That is the high-water mark for the generation — the same projection reads 59.9% for 2024 and 61% for 2025 — and it tops the coupe band outright. The caveat that applies to every Corvette applies here too: a strong retention percentage on a $78,000 car still leaves a large absolute depreciation bill, which is why this item is informational and the derived effective-cost item does the scoring.

Basic warranty
3 yr / 36,000 mi bumper-to-bumper
0/100
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Chevrolet's Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty runs 3 years or 36,000 miles on every 2023 vehicle including the Corvette, with no performance-model extension and nothing added for the 70th-anniversary year. That is the bottom of the segment band — the same term Ford and Toyota offer, a year short of Porsche's 4 yr / 50,000 mi.

Powertrain warranty
5 yr / 60,000 mi powertrain (no hybrid components on any 2023 Corvette — the E-Ray arrives for 2024)
0/100
#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The powertrain limited warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles, the industry floor and the bottom of the band. For most Corvette owners the five-year clock rather than the mileage cap is the binding constraint — these cars are typically driven far too few miles to reach 60,000 inside the term. Unlike 2024 and later years there is no hybrid-component coverage to note, since every 2023 Corvette is a gas car.

Complimentary maintenance & perks48
#9 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Chevrolet covers exactly one scheduled maintenance visit — oil and filter, Multi-Point Inspection, tire rotation — within the first 12 months, and bundles 5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance and courtesy transportation. The Corvette-specific sweetener is real: Chevrolet subsidizes the two-day Ron Fellows Corvette Owners School at Spring Mountain to $1,000 for first owners, a $1,500 reduction, with a night's lodging included. It lands at the top of the 'no complimentary coverage' band rather than into the mid band because a single free oil change is thin against ToyotaCare's 2 years / 25,000 miles or BMW's 3 years, and because a 2023 car got only a short OnStar trial — the 8-year complimentary OnStar Basics package GM began including arrived with 2025-and-newer vehicles, two model years later.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$35,466 (≈$27,066 depreciation + $8,400 maintenance)
32/100
#11 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

$78,000 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (65.3% retained, or about $50,934) leaves about $27,066 in depreciation. Add the projected $8,400 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $35,466 in total.

6Reliability & QualityOne of the Corvette's strongest categories.3.04B
Predicted reliability74
#7 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 is the year the C8 finally turned the corner on predicted reliability: Consumer Reports raised the Corvette to 3/5 predicted reliability (from 2/5 for 2022) and made it Recommended for the first time since the mid-engine car launched, with an 87 overall that ranked first in sports/sporty cars over $40,000. J.D. Power independently placed the Corvette first in Premium Sporty Car in the 2025 Vehicle Dependability Study. The ceiling here is the trouble-spot list rather than the headline — CR still flagged in-car electronics, climate control, body hardware and paint/trim — which is why this lands mid-70s rather than in the 911's or LC's band.

Brand reliability track record76
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Chevrolet's dependability standing over the last several study cycles is consistently better than mass-market average and occasionally top-five overall — including in the one study that surveys this exact cohort. The 2026 VDS covers three-year-old 2023 model-year vehicles and put Chevrolet third among mass-market brands; the 2025 VDS had Chevrolet fifth overall. That is a genuinely strong multi-year record, short only of the perennial top-tier Japanese and Buick/Lexus-grade brands that earn 80+.

Recall & TSB history74
#8 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The 2023 Stingray's own recall record is light — NHTSA's vehicle query returns a single campaign against the 2023 Corvette, the 2025 fuel-filler spill/fire-risk recall (25V536000), and that one is scoped to cars with the left-side radiator/fan combination, which excludes the Stingray and E-Ray. NHTSA carries only about seven complaints for the model year and no open investigations. What holds this out of the 80s is the generation-level picture rather than the year: GM issued roughly 17 service bulletins covering the TR-9080 DCT alone by 2023, and the C8 line accumulated a steady stream of campaigns across 2020–2026, most recently the Z06/ZR1 fleet-wide action.

Powertrain durability reputation72
#11 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The two halves of this powertrain have opposite reputations. The LT2 6.2L V8 is a dry-sump evolution of GM's Gen V small-block — a pushrod architecture with a deep high-mileage track record and no systemic failure mode attached to the C8 application. The Tremec TR-9080 dual-clutch is the risk: 2020–2022 builds produced documented shuddering, hard 3–2 and 2–1 downshifts, reverse-engagement failures and a handful of outright failures, addressed largely through software recalibration. 2023 sits on the far side of most of those fixes, but the unit is still young, expensive and intolerant of skipped fluid service, so it does not yet get credit as a proven family.

Interior material quality74
#7 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The C8 cabin is a step-change from the C7 and genuinely rich for a car that starts under $66,000 — Napa leather, real aluminum, carbon fiber and microsuede on the upper trims, with a fully wrapped instrument panel and a continuous line from dash to door. Reviewers still note hard plastics in the low-touch zones and the polarizing squared-off wall of climate switchgear down the center spine. Measured against its own price it is strong; measured against the Porsche 911 and Lexus LC that anchor the top of this segment's calibration, it is a tier below, which puts it in the mid-70s rather than the 80s.

Fit & finish66
#14 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

This is the weakest link in the Corvette's quality picture and the reason Consumer Reports withheld a higher predicted-reliability grade even in the year it recommended the car: paint and trim and body hardware both register as trouble spots, and owner logs for 2023 cars report scattered trim rattles and inconsistent panel alignment on a composite-bodied car built at Bowling Green. It is not a chronically bad assembly record — Chevrolet rates above average in J.D. Power's initial-quality work — but 'generally solid with scattered complaints' describes it precisely.

Dealer & service network82
#4 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

No other car in this segment is supported by anything close to Chevrolet's footprint — roughly 3,000 US dealers against a few hundred for Porsche and a couple hundred for Lexus's LC network, and Chevrolet's service satisfaction runs above the mass-market average rather than merely at it. Two things keep it out of the 90s: not every Chevrolet store is Corvette-certified with the technicians and lift equipment a mid-engine car needs, so owners in some markets still travel, and 2023 was a peak year for C8 dealer markups, which coloured the buying experience if not the service one.

Parts availability & repair cost76
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Running costs are ordinary-car money by supercar standards: RepairPal puts the Corvette at about $737 a year in repair and maintenance with only 0.3 unscheduled shop visits annually, barely above a Mustang's $709 and a fraction of what a mid-engine European rival demands. Small-block parts and the Corvette aftermarket are both enormous. The C8-specific caveats are real, though — composite body panels, the mid-engine packaging and the TR-9080 DCT are dealer territory with high per-incident severity, and the aftermarket depth that benefits older Corvettes is thinner for this generation.

Touchscreen size
8.0 in diagonal HD color touchscreen (standard and only size on 1LT/2LT/3LT for 2023)
12/100
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Eight inches is the smallest center display of any 2023 luxury-priced coupe and sits at the very bottom of the 7–15.5 in coupe band — the C8's screen is angled hard toward the driver rather than sized for a passenger, and no larger option exists at any trim or price.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness64
#9 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 is the last year of Chevrolet Infotainment 3 (Plus on 1LT, Premium with Navigation on 2LT/3LT) before the 2024 switch to the Google-based stack, and it is a mature, quick, logically laid-out system that owners rarely complain about on its own merits. What holds it back is the hardware and the surroundings: an 8-inch canvas is small for the price, and the vertical wall of climate buttons along the passenger divider swallows the physical controls that should support it.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto92
#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are both standard on every 2023 trim including the base 1LT — no cable, no upper-trim gate, and no cost. That is the full-marks configuration; the few points withheld reflect only the small screen the projection has to render on.

Voice control & native navigation58
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Connected Navigation is standard on the 2LT volume trim and up (optional on 1LT), so maps are present and work well enough, but this is GM's own pre-Google voice layer — command-word recognition rather than natural language — and it is squarely the system most owners bypass for CarPlay. The 2024 car's Google Maps and Google Assistant are a generation ahead of what 2023 offers.

Audio system quality80
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

There is no weak base system to fall into — even the 1LT gets a 10-speaker Bose, and the 2LT volume trim and 3LT upgrade to the 14-speaker Bose Performance Series. The ceiling is good rather than exceptional; no Burmester- or Bowers-class option exists on a Corvette at any price.

Digital instrument cluster85
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

A 12-inch fully digital, reconfigurable cluster is standard on every 2023 trim and changes layout with the Driver Mode Selector — it is where the C8 actually spends its display budget, and it goes a long way toward compensating for the small center screen by keeping navigation and performance data directly in front of the driver.

OTA update capability70
#3 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The C8 launched GM's Global B / Vehicle Intelligence Platform architecture, on which effectively every module rather than just infotainment can be reprogrammed over the air, and 2023 cars do receive real OTA pushes including powertrain-calibration fixes. It falls short of a whole-vehicle feature-adding cadence: several C8 software campaigns in this period still required a dealer visit.

Companion app & remote functions62
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The myChevrolet app covers the core set — remote start, lock/unlock, vehicle locate, diagnostics and a 4G LTE hotspot — and for 2023 Chevrolet bundled a mandatory three-year OnStar subscription into the purchase price, so the functions are genuinely live rather than trial-gated for the first few years. Against it: there is no phone-as-key on the C8, and the remote functions revert to a paid plan once that term ends.

Charging ports & device power58
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Adequate for two occupants and no more: two ports in the center console cubby (one USB-A, one USB-C) plus a further port in the storage bin behind the motorized screen, a 12V socket, and a wireless charging pad on the waterfall from the 2LT volume trim up. With no second row there is nothing else to serve, but there is also no household outlet or onboard power provision of any kind.

Keyless & remote access75
#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Keyless Open and Start with push-button ignition and remote start are standard from the 1LT up, and the doors use electronic release buttons as standard rather than mechanical handles. What it lacks is the modern layer — no phone-as-key on any 2023 trim, and no hands-free trunk release.

Camera & parking aids62
#3 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Rear Park Assist and an HD Rear Vision Camera are standard, and the 2LT volume trim adds HD front and rear cameras with a front curb view that matters a great deal in a car this low, plus a rear camera mirror. There is no 360-degree surround view and no automated parking on any 2023 trim — a real gap given the width and the blind rear buttresses.

Head-up display availability82
#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

A large color head-up display with selectable layouts, including a track screen with g-meter and shift lights, is standard from the 2LT — which is the trim most Corvettes are actually sold in. Only the entry 1LT goes without, and it cannot be optioned there.

8Use-Case FitOne of the Corvette's weakest categories.0.00F
Kid & car-seat practicality5
#11 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

There is no rear seat and therefore no LATCH anchor anywhere in the car — a child in a car seat cannot legally or physically be carried in a 2023 C8 Corvette. The only concession to family logistics is that the frunk will swallow a folded stroller.

Family safety package12
#15 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 is the year before the Corvette made Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Keep Assist standard, so the car goes without all three entirely — and there is no NHTSA or IIHS crash testing of the C8, no adaptive cruise and no rear-occupant alert. Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the 2LT volume trim are the whole active-safety story, and none of it matters to a family that cannot put a child in the car at all.

Family road-trip comfort12
#10 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Two occupants is the hard ceiling, so a family road trip is off the table before rear amenities are even discussed. For the two people who do fit, 12.6 cu ft of luggage space across two trunks is workable for a weekend away.

Daily driving ease62
#7 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The C8 is an unusually easy supercar to commute in: the 8-speed dual-clutch is smooth in traffic, Tour mode softens the magnetic-ride cars, forward sightlines over the low cowl are excellent, and the front-lift system handles driveways. Working against it are the low seating position, the awkward vertical climate button wall, and the complete absence of adaptive cruise control for stop-and-go crawling.

Commuting cost efficiency15
#13 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

16 MPG city on required premium fuel makes the 2023 Corvette one of the most expensive ways to cover a commute, and the consumables follow: staggered Michelin Pilot Sport performance tires in 245/35ZR19 and 305/30ZR20 and sports-car insurance rates are both well above class norms.

Parking & maneuverability42
#12 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The turning circle is tidy for the class — 38.1 ft, or 36.4 ft on magnetic-ride cars — and the car is short at 182.3 in, but it is 76.1 in wide with a nose low enough to need a lift system for driveways, thick rear buttresses that block over-the-shoulder vision, and no surround-view camera to compensate in a tight garage.

Work capability3
#13 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

No tow rating, no payload provision beyond two occupants and their luggage, and 12.6 cu ft of sealed, fixed-shape trunk space that cannot take anything long or dirty. The Corvette is not a work tool in any sense this item measures.

Durability for work duty8
#15 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Composite body panels, a low-hanging front splitter that needs a lift system to clear driveways, leather-trimmed interior surfaces and 19/20-inch performance tires are the opposite of wear-friendly, and there is no fleet or trade history to draw on. The LT2 V8 itself is durable — nothing else about the car is built for abuse.

Jobsite & upfit practicality3
#12 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

There are no tie-downs, no onboard AC power, no factory rack or hitch ecosystem, and no washable surfaces anywhere in the car. The only upfit ecosystem around the C8 is aftermarket performance parts.

Long-distance comfort & range65
#4 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The C8 is a better grand tourer than its silhouette suggests — reviewers repeatedly praise the seats over thousand-mile stints, and 24 MPG highway from an 18.5-gallon tank gives roughly 440 highway miles between stops. It is capped by two real limits: no adaptive cruise control at all, so there is no fatigue relief on a long interstate day, and coarse-surface road noise owners describe as conversation-blocking.

Outdoor & adventure capability8
#14 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The scored Stingray is rear-wheel drive only — no AWD existed on any 2023 Corvette, since the E-Ray did not arrive until 2024 — ground clearance is 5.3 in with a splitter that needs a lift system for driveways, and there are no roof rails, hitch or onboard power to support any outdoor use. A gravel forest road is already at the limit.

Gear & luggage flexibility32
#9 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The dual-trunk layout is the Corvette's one practicality trick and it is a real one — two golf bags or a pair of carry-ons in the rear bin plus a carry-on in the frunk, in two independently accessible loads. But both compartments are fixed-shape and shallow, nothing folds, and anything bulky or long simply will not go in.

9Driving ExperienceOne of the Corvette's strongest categories.3.41B+
Handling & agility90
#4 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The mid-engine C8 generates and sustains grip at a level nothing else near its price does — around 1.03 g on the skidpad with the Z51 package — and turns in with a rotation front-engine rivals cannot replicate. Reviewers consistently rank its balance and body control with cars costing twice as much; only a 911's ultimate precision sits above it in this segment.

Steering feel82
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Quick, accurately weighted electric assist on a 15.7:1 variable-ratio rack with genuinely little slack off center, and the mid-engine layout unloads the front axle so the wheel stays clean under power. It communicates less of the road surface than a 911's rack, which is the gap between very good and best-in-class here.

Braking confidence85
#5 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Stopping power is not in question — a Z51 C8 has been measured at 101 ft from 60 mph, among the shortest results recorded for any street car at this price, and the Brembo hardware holds up to repeated track use. The electro-hydraulic brake-by-wire pedal is the one reservation: firm and consistent but synthetic in feel, and some cars develop pad-deposit pulsation.

Powertrain smoothness & response84
#5 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The naturally aspirated 6.2L LT2 responds instantly with no turbo lag anywhere in the rev range, and the Tremec 8-speed dual-clutch shifts in roughly 100 ms while still creeping smoothly in traffic. It gives up a few points for the low-speed hesitancy common to dual-clutch transmissions and for stop/start that restarts with an audible V8 shudder.

Drivetrain noise & vibration85
#2 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Putting a pushrod V8 directly behind the occupants' heads is the point, not a flaw: intake and exhaust noise are close, hard-edged and central to the car's character, and the optional Performance Exhaust sharpens it further. Highway cruising brings some drone in the upper gears, which is the only real cost.

Turning circle
38.1 ft curb-to-curb on the standard FE1 suspension; 36.4 ft with the FE4 / Magnetic Selective Ride Control setup
32/100
#12 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

38.1 ft is mid-pack for the coupe band — wide front tires and a steep steering-axis limit lock more than the short 107.2-in wheelbase would suggest — though magnetic-ride cars tighten it to 36.4 ft, which is better than the C7 managed.

Driving position & ergonomics62
#13 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

The driving position itself is excellent — 8-way power seat and a tilt/telescoping squared-off wheel, and a low cowl that gives an unusually clear view of the road ahead. Everything around it drags the score down: the vertical wall of climate buttons along the passenger divider is the most criticized interior element of the generation, rear three-quarter visibility is poor through the buttresses, and getting in and out over a wide sill is a low, deliberate maneuver.

Fun-to-drive factor95
#3 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

This is the Corvette's strongest suit by a wide margin: supercar-shaped mid-engine responses, a naturally aspirated V8 soundtrack a foot behind your head, sub-3-second acceleration, and a chassis that stays playful rather than intimidating. It is the car enthusiasts point to when arguing that performance per dollar has never been better — and 2023, the 70th anniversary year, added the Z06 above it without diluting the Stingray.

10Value & Market PositionGrades above the middle of the scale.3.04B
Standard equipment generosity58
#8 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

On comfort and cabin content the 2023 1LT is generous for $65,895 — Mulan-leather GT1 buckets, a 12-inch digital cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-speaker Bose system, all-LED headlamps and staggered 19/20-inch wheels on Michelins. On driver assistance it is close to empty, and 2023 is the last model year that is true of: Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, the Following Distance Indicator and IntelliBeam are all absent from the order guide entirely and all arrive as standard equipment a year later, adaptive cruise is not offered at any price in the generation, and blind-spot monitoring is not even orderable on the 1LT. A chip-shortage build constraint made it worse in practice, forcing many 2023 cars to be built without Rear Park Assist that the guide lists as standard. That gap pulls it to the bottom of the 'competitive equipment for the price' band and a clear step below the 2024 car.

Feature value per dollar93
#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Performance per dollar is the Corvette's defining commercial argument and 2023 is the year it was most extreme, at both ends of the range. A $65,895 Stingray reaches 60 mph in about 2.9 seconds while a base 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera started at $107,750 delivered and needed roughly 4.0 seconds; above it, the new Z06 put a 670-hp naturally aspirated flat-plane-crank V8 revving to 8,600 rpm into a $106,395 car and was repeatedly tested against the $180,000-plus 911 GT3 and compared to Ferrari's departed 458 Speciale. The near-top score reflects a reviewer consensus that held across the whole lineup rather than one flattering comparison.

Trim & configuration breadth80
#6 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

For 2023 one nameplate spans roughly $65,000 of price ladder — Stingray in 1LT, 2LT and 3LT with the $6,345 Z51 package, and the new Z06 in 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ with the Z07 pack — plus the $5,995 70th Anniversary Special Edition available on both, each offered as a removable-roof coupe or a retractable hardtop convertible, a choice buyers genuinely exercised (25,842 of the 53,785 built, 48.0%, were convertibles). It sits a little below the 2024 and 2025 ranges, which added the hybrid eAWD E-Ray and then the ZR1 and so spanned three and four powertrains, and short of the ceiling in any case because there is no low-cost entry point and no manual gearbox anywhere in the generation — the range only extends upward.

Sales popularity & market acceptance85
#1 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 is the commercial peak of the C8 and one of the biggest years in the nameplate's history: 53,785 cars built for the model year, within 22 units of the 1979 Corvette's all-time production record, and 34,353 US deliveries in the calendar year, the highest of the generation. It was comfortably the best-selling premium sports car in America by a wide margin, with the Porsche 911 running roughly 13,000-14,000 US units a year. It stops short of the very top of the band only because a two-seat sports car is a niche product by construction, and because the trajectory from here is downward — 2024 slipped slightly and 2025 fell sharply.

Brand desirability & image82
#8 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 was the Corvette's 70th anniversary and the year the Z06 arrived, and the desirability shows up as hard market evidence rather than sentiment: KBB projected the best five-year retention of any C8 model year and ranked the car fifth across the entire 2023 market, demand ran far enough ahead of supply that dealer markups of $10,000-$20,000 over sticker were commonplace, and Chevrolet still could not build enough. It is placed a touch above the 2024 car on the strength of that retention figure and the anniversary halo, but stops short of the top of the band because the halo belongs to the nameplate rather than to the badge on it — Chevrolet's broader mainstream image is neutral at best in a segment where Porsche's brand equity is itself part of the product.

Deals & incentive availability25
#13 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

Scored on buyer benefit, 2023 was the worst year of the generation to buy a Corvette. GM Authority's monthly incentive round-ups reported the discount as 'non-existent' month after month through the model year — no rebates, no special financing, no lease support at any point, with the Corvette excluded from GM Supplier Pricing — while dealer markups over MSRP remained routine. The only relief available was the sort a buyer brings themselves, such as GM card earnings. This is the floor of the 'sells at or over MSRP; no deals to be had' band, and a step below even 2024, which at least saw a first-ever factory financing offer appear in July; by 2025 unsold stock brought $7,000-$10,000 discounts and a $4,000 loyalty allowance.

Model freshness62
#5 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 is the fourth model year of the C8 generation launched for 2020 — mid-cycle, the platform current but no longer new. What lifts it above a plain carry-over year is that 2023 brought the single biggest addition of the generation: the Z06 and its 670-hp flat-plane-crank LT6, a genuinely new engine and a new halo model, alongside the 70th Anniversary Special Edition, two new exterior colors and an expanded palette of 14 exterior and eight interior choices. A 2023 buyer was also three model years clear of the 2026 interior refresh, so redesign risk was more distant than it would be for a 2024 or 2025 car — though the safety-equipment overhaul landing one year later does date this model year in a way buyers notice on the used market.

Critical reception & awards90
#4 of 15 Sports CarsCompare all →

2023 is the C8's strongest awards year. The Z06 took MotorTrend's Performance Vehicle of the Year over a 20-car field that included the Civic Type R and GR Corolla, and Road & Track's Performance Car of the Year in the same season, while the Corvette as a nameplate returned to Car and Driver's 10Best for 2023. It was a habitual comparison-test winner against far more expensive machinery, with the Z06 judged directly against the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS. The one consistent counterweight across reviews and owner surveys is build quality and reliability rather than the driving product, which keeps it just short of the top of the band.
