The verdict

A mixed-report compact sedan, strong on reliability and held back by performance.

The 2025 Civic is still one of the safest buys among compact sedans. It is very reliable, it holds its value, and it costs about $16,300 to own over five years in the $27,400 Sport trim. It also handles better than most cars at its price, and it earned a 5-star NHTSA overall rating. The trade-offs are the slow 150-hp gas engine, thin tech and comfort features on the volume trim, and Honda's short 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. Shoppers who can stretch to the $30,100 Sport Hybrid get 200 hp and 49 MPG combined, which fixes the Civic's biggest weakness.

#9 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The volume Sport gas trim uses the 2.0L naturally aspirated I-4 at 150 hp. For the 2025 refresh Honda dropped the 1.5L turbo from the non-Si sedan and added the 200-hp two-motor hybrid; the Si keeps its 200-hp 1.5T.

The 2.0L in the Sport makes 133 lb-ft at 4,000-5,000 rpm; the hybrid's traction motor delivers 232 lb-ft from 0-2,000 rpm, a much stronger figure that is not the scored configuration.

#6 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The 2.0L CVT powertrain is unchanged for 2025 and instrumented tests put the Sport around 8 seconds to 60; the new hybrid is markedly quicker at about 6.2 s.

Powertrain refinement66
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The scored 2.0L is smooth at cruise but thrashy and short of midrange punch when pushed; the 2025 hybrid is praised as one of the most refined in the class, lifting the lineup but not the volume gas trim.

Three distinct powertrains: 2.0L gas with CVT, the new 2025 two-motor hybrid, and the 1.5T Si with a manual (Type R on the hatchback). No PHEV or EV keeps it below the top tier.

#1 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

NHTSA gave the 2025 Civic sedan a 5-star overall vehicle score; frontal crash is the one sub-rating at 4 stars.

IIHS awards & crashworthiness85
#7 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The refreshed 2025 Civic sedan earned an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+, with Good ratings in small overlap (driver and passenger), the updated side test and headlights. The hatchback only reached TSP. IIHS's 2025 Civic page shows Acceptable on the updated moderate overlap test, which keeps this score below the top of the band.

Standard ADAS suite breadth70
#12 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Honda Sensing is standard on every 2025 Civic. It includes AEB with pedestrian detection, FCW, ACC with Low-Speed Follow, LKAS, and Road Departure Mitigation with LDW. Blind Spot Information and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are still left off the base LX and start at the Sport trim.

Automatic emergency braking performance68
#9 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

IIHS rated the Civic Acceptable, not Good, in both the tougher vehicle-to-vehicle 2.0 front crash prevention test and the pedestrian AEB test. That is adequate performance but not class-leading.

Blind-spot & cross-traffic coverage60
#11 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

For 2025, BSI with Rear Cross Traffic Alert spread to all Sport models, including the volume Sport and Sport Hybrid. It is still missing from the base LX and only gives alerts, with no braking intervention and no safe-exit warning.

Lane keeping & centering76
#2 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

LKAS on the 11th-gen Civic centers the car smoothly and seldom ping-pongs, and reviewers rate it among the better non-hands-free systems in the class. Road Departure Mitigation is standard.

Adaptive cruise & highway assist73
#8 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

ACC with Low-Speed Follow (stop-and-go) is standard and pairs with LKAS as a capable traffic-jam assist. It is refined for a compact car, though it can react abruptly to cut-ins.

Hands-free driving availability18
#1 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

No 2025 Civic trim offers hands-free highway driving. Honda Sensing requires the driver's hands on the wheel.

Headlight performance82
#4 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

IIHS rated the headlights Good on every trim. All trims use LED reflector units with standard high-beam assist, but none is curve-adaptive.

Outward visibility68
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

A low cowl, slim A-pillars and door-mounted mirrors give a good forward view. The fastback roofline and short rear window limit the view over the shoulder, and no 360° camera is offered.

Child-seat (LATCH) usability70
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

IIHS rated LATCH ease of use Good, with extra positions available. The two outboard LATCH sets and a center tether are easy to reach, but a compact rear seat makes three child seats across impractical.

48/100
#7 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Mid-pack trunk for a compact sedan; Sport adds a 60/40 split folding rear seat (LX is one-piece).

In-cabin storage & clever solutions64
#2 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Usable center console, door pockets and a tray ahead of the shifter; nothing beyond class norms, and the volume Sport has no wireless charging pad.

Seat comfort68
#6 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Supportive front sport seats and decent rear cushion height, but the volume Sport has manual adjustment only and no heated seats; power driver seat is limited to the Sport Touring Hybrid.

Ride quality72
#2 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Firm but never punishing; 2025 suspension revisions made the ride noticeably more compliant, though the Sport's 18-in wheels add some impact harshness.

Cabin quietness55
#6 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Elevated road noise remains the Civic's best-known comfort complaint, and the 2.0L drones under hard acceleration.

Climate & comfort features44
#12 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The gas Sport lacks heated seats and dual-zone climate; heated seats and dual-zone arrive only on hybrid trims, and no Civic offers ventilated seats or a heated wheel.

Base MSRP
$25,400 (LX, incl. $1,150 destination)
90/100
#8 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The 2025 LX sedan is the entry trim. Its price sits well below the sedan band midpoint and is among the lowest of the major compact sedans.

Volume-Trim Price
$27,400 (Sport sedan; Sport Hybrid $30,100, Sport Touring Hybrid $33,100)
90/100
#9 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The gas 2.0L Sport is the volume configuration for the scored gas powertrain class. The returning hybrids sit $2,700–$5,700 above it.

5-Year Maintenance & Repair Cost
~$4,800 over 5 years (Edmunds $3,863 · KBB $5,790)
65/100
#12 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The sources disagree mainly on repairs: KBB projects $1,667 in repairs, while Edmunds' figure is about $3.9k in total. This value is the midpoint, which is still below the sedan band midpoint thanks to the simple naturally aspirated 2.0L.

5-Year Resale Value Retention
~58% of MSRP retained after 5 yr (estimates range ~51–70%)
77/100
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The Civic's residuals are among the best of any compact sedan. KBB's depreciation projection is more conservative than iSeeCars and CarEdge, so this value is a blend of the estimates.

Basic warranty

Powertrain warranty
5 yr / 60,000 mi
0/100
#4 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The standard 5 yr / 60k powertrain coverage matches Toyota, Mazda and Nissan but trails Hyundai and Kia's 10 yr / 100k.

Complimentary maintenance & perks32
#13 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

There is no factory complimentary scheduled maintenance on the 2025 Civic, unlike ToyotaCare (2 yr / 25k) or Hyundai's 3 yr / 36k. Perks are limited to roadside assistance during the 3/36 warranty term and a short HondaLink connected-services trial.

Effective 5-Year Ownership Cost
$16,308 (≈$11,508 depreciation + $4,800 maintenance)
84/100
#7 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

$27,400 volume-trim price minus its estimated resale value after 5 years (58% retained, or about $15,892) leaves about $11,508 in depreciation. Add the projected $4,800 in 5-year maintenance and repairs, and owning this vehicle for 5 years costs about $16,308 in total.

6Reliability & QualityThe Civic's best-graded category.3.53A-
Predicted reliability82
#4 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Consumer Reports and J.D. Power both put the 2025 Civic well above average. It is one of the most reliable compacts of the model year, but it falls just short of the top band because CR rates two trouble spots (electrical accessories and in-car electronics) only average.

Brand reliability track record79
#8 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Honda sits in the upper tier of Consumer Reports' brand rankings and has recently scored better than the industry average in J.D. Power's dependability study. Its J.D. Power placement has moved around from year to year (below average in 2023), so it lands at the top of the mid-band rather than in the elite tier.

Recall & TSB history70
#7 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Two NHTSA campaigns cover the 2025 model year, which is moderate for a compact car. Both are safety-relevant (a sticky steering gearbox and a fuel-pump leak that can cause a fire), and the steering defect is a carry-over issue that runs through the whole generation. Neither is a do-not-drive or park-outside advisory, and both have free dealer remedies.

Powertrain durability reputation84
#7 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The volume Sport sedan uses Honda's mature naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four with a CVT. This hardware has carried over through the generation and has a strong durability record. For 2025 the refresh dropped the 1.5-liter turbo, the engine behind past oil-dilution concerns, from non-Si sedans and replaced it with the hybrid. That removes the weakest link from the mainstream lineup.

Interior material quality86
#3 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The eleventh-generation cabin is still a compact-class benchmark: honeycomb vent trim, well-damped physical controls and good perceived quality, even in Sport form. Hard plastics remain in low-touch areas, as expected at the price.

Fit & finish80
#1 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Reviews describe assembly as tight and the cabin as free of vibration. As the fourth year of the platform, 2025 also benefits from mature production. Scattered owner reports of trim noise, plus the steering gearbox manufacturing recall, keep it from the top band.

Dealer & service network87
#4 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Honda has one of the densest dealer networks in the US. The Civic's huge installed base means trained service is available almost everywhere, though service quality varies by franchise.

Parts availability & repair cost92
#2 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Civic parts are plentiful through dealers, independent suppliers and one of the largest aftermarkets in the industry. Average repair cost is well below the compact-car norm.

Infotainment UX & responsiveness68
#6 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Simple, logical system mounted high with a physical volume knob and real climate controls, but the 7-inch screen's graphics look dated.

Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto50
#12 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wired-only on the volume Sport; wireless projection is limited to the Sport Touring Hybrid.

Voice control & native navigation45
#11 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

No native navigation or advanced voice assistant on the Sport — owners rely on phone projection; Google built-in (Assistant, Maps) only on the top hybrid trim.

Audio system quality62
#6 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The Sport's 180-watt, 8-speaker system is a step up from the LX's 4 speakers; a 12-speaker Bose system is available only on the top hybrid trim.

Digital instrument cluster55
#6 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Sport uses a 7-inch TFT paired with an analog gauge; the full 10.2-inch digital cluster is top-trim only.

OTA update capability38
#9 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The 7-inch head unit on the volume trim has no meaningful over-the-air update scope; Google built-in on the top trim receives app/infotainment updates.

Companion app & remote functions58
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

HondaLink app covers remote lock/unlock, remote start (Sport) and vehicle locate, with remote features subscription-gated after the trial; no phone-as-key on the Civic.

Charging ports & device power52
#8 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Two front USB-C ports are now standard, but wireless charging is top-trim only and there is no AC outlet.

Keyless & remote access66
#6 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Push-button start is standard and the volume Sport adds smart entry and remote engine start; no digital key.

Camera & parking aids42
#13 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Multi-angle rearview camera standard, but parking sensors only on the top trim and no surround-view camera on any Civic.

Head-up display availability5
#11 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

No head-up display is offered on any 2025 Civic sedan trim.

8Use-Case FitOne of the Civic's weakest categories.1.60D
Kid & car-seat practicality60
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Rear legroom (37.4 in) is good for a compact and rear doors open wide, but low seating height and sedan trunk opening make car-seat and stroller logistics a compromise.

Family safety package82
#3 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and NHTSA 5-star overall, with full Honda Sensing standard and blind-spot/RCTA standard on the Sport for 2025.

Family road-trip comfort58
#4 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Four adults fit, but road noise, no heated seats on the gas Sport and a modest trunk limit long family trips.

Daily driving ease78
#3 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Smooth CVT, light controls, good outward visibility and standard adaptive cruise make it an easy daily driver.

Commuting cost efficiency76
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

34 MPG combined on regular fuel and cheap Honda consumables keep per-mile costs low, though the hybrid is far cheaper to run.

Parking & maneuverability70
#7 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Compact footprint and good visibility help, but the Sport's 38.1-ft turning circle is wide for the class and parking sensors are absent.

Work capability12
#10 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

No US tow rating and a sedan trunk — not a work vehicle.

Durability for work duty62
#1 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Proven 2.0L and Honda's durability reputation help, but a cloth-and-plastic compact sedan isn't built for hard use.

Jobsite & upfit practicality12
#11 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

No onboard power, tie-downs or upfit ecosystem beyond a trunk.

Long-distance comfort & range62
#8 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

~420-mile range and standard adaptive cruise/lane keeping are strengths; road noise and manual seats on the Sport limit long-haul comfort.

Outdoor & adventure capability28
#8 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Front-wheel drive only, low ground clearance and no tow rating — pavement-bound beyond roof-rack accessories.

Gear & luggage flexibility45
#9 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

14.8 cu ft trunk with a 60/40 split folding rear seat on the Sport; sedan opening limits bulky gear and there is no factory hitch.

10Value & Market PositionOne of the Civic's strongest categories.3.25B+
Standard equipment generosity70
#8 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The $25,400 LX comes with the full Honda Sensing suite, a 7-inch touchscreen and wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Wireless phone mirroring, the 9-inch screen, heated seats and a sunroof require higher trims, and the Elantra and K4 pack more visible content at similar prices.

Feature value per dollar76
#4 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

For 2025 Honda dropped the base price of the hybrid: the Sport Hybrid ($30,100) delivers 200 hp and 49 mpg combined for about $2,700 over the gas Sport. The gas LX and Sport are fairly priced, though the Elantra and Sentra undercut them on sticker.

Trim & configuration breadth76
#4 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

There are four sedan trims (LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, Sport Touring Hybrid), plus a hatchback body and the Si and Type R variants, with gas and hybrid powertrains. The $25k–$33k ladder is well spaced, but there is no AWD.

Sales popularity & market acceptance86
#2 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The Civic was Honda's top-selling passenger car and one of the two best-selling US compacts in 2025. Sales grew after the hybrid returned, even though the sedan market is shrinking.

Brand desirability & image78
#5 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Honda's mainstream brand equity rests on reliability and resale value. The Si and Type R halo models give the Civic nameplate rare enthusiast credibility for a non-luxury compact.

Deals & incentive availability52
#10 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

Honda's incentives on the Civic are modest: promotional APR (4.99–6.99%), $500 military and graduate offers, and occasional seasonal cash. Strong hybrid demand kept transaction prices near MSRP, so discounts were thinner than on the Sentra, Jetta or K4.

Model freshness86
#3 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

2025 is the 11th generation's mid-cycle refresh year (it launched for 2022). The refresh brought new styling, the returning two-motor hybrid and revised trims, so the car is current and no redesign is imminent.

Critical reception & awards90
#1 of 13 Compact CarsCompare all →

The Civic Hybrid was named 2025 North American Car of the Year, making the 11th-generation Civic the only four-time NACTOY winner. It also made Car and Driver's 10Best and is routinely the benchmark in compact comparison tests. Its IIHS rating was Top Safety Pick (sedan) and TSP+ (hatchback).
